I have two defective Vamos, a V2 and a V3, both stainless steel, both display 0.0 Ohm, due to a short circuit in the 510 connector.
I´ve repaired this a few times with a Vamo V2.
Carefully pull out the center pin, replace the broken washer with a new one and squeeze it back in.
But this time I wasn´t careful enough, I ripped the pin off the cable and the cable remained inside.
Obviously I have to pull the top cap off to get to the cable, but on that one I have bad experience.
When I had my very first defective Vamo, about 6 months ago, before I discovered that I could pull the center pin out, I tried pulling the top cap off, but I couldn´t.
First I tried careful, with some soft leather in between my pliers and the cap.
After an hour trying I got mad, wished that thing to hell, didn´t care about scratching it anymore and went for brute force.
I srewed it into my vise, attached to a 100kg workbench and I was jiggling like mad, I was moving the table around, even lifting it, but that top cap didn´t move at all.
In the end the whole thing had huge scratches all over, but the cap was still on when I threw it in the trash.
I´ve seen a few videos of people showing a Vamo with the top cap pulled off, but none actually showing how to pull it off.
I´ve also seen someone with a ZMax pushing a tool from underneath through the electronics and push the top cap off with a hammer, but in my Vamo there is no room to push anything in from below.
Some shops even offer replacement top caps for sale, as if it was the most normal thing to replace that cap.
So how on earth do you manage that.
Last but not least, if I could manage to open it, I could do a much better, even permanent fix and I´d love to do the same thing with my Vamo V3, but that one doesn´t even have a solid top cap one could grab and pull.
Has anyone managed to pop the top cap of a V3?
