How to tell if a battery is "protected"

Hey all,
I am getting a couple of PVs that use the same batteries, and wanted to get extras. Is there a code or something to note that it's a protected battery? I was going to pick some up on the classifieds but didn't know what to look for.

What kind of batteries are you looking for? Size/number?

bigtime - thanks for the link .... I guess if you can actually see the battery it would help. Otherwise you have to ask probably.
