As the title states, do I look for the same slushy looking filament as I would when using the cartomizer by itself? I'm looking at the top of the carto (after taking off the drip tip) and it looks pretty dry. I punched two holes in my carto in my phiniac tank and its vaping well for the time being. But I'm worried the carto might not be wicking properly? How do I know my carto is wicked well besides waiting for the dreaded dry/metal hit? I'm using a high VG juice, probably 60-70vg and 40-30pg. Or should I assume only the bottom will be wicked and not come up to the top?

Well, use a priming process that works for you and ensure that it wicks well. For priming, some use the condom fill method, I just put drops in the top of the carto. I drop along the sides, being careful not to get juice in the center tube. I drop until the filler stops sucking up the juice quickly and stop there. For wicking, I prefer the three hole pre-punched cartos or to slot them myself. With the carto partially inserted into the tank with the top cap on the tank, Fill the tank to the desired level then push the carto through the top cap. Before vaping, I like to take a couple of draws. Then I do a very short vape to test for any burnt flavor. If I detect anything other than vapor, I do a couple more draws without vaping. If no burnt flavor, you should be good to go.

No, they won't look slushy like when you use them by themselves. You can tell whether it's wicking correctly by the little bubbles you see coming out of the hole in the carto. If you are getting little bubbles out of the hole in the carto, all is good.:D

Wow, I didn't even notice that until now. I purposely took long and multiple draws from my PV and voila!, little tiny bubbles started popping out :) They're actually kind of cute looking ...
