How to use a 510 atomizer wthat has a bridge?

so I have these atomizers that I got once, 510 dripping atomizers, and I didn't realize at the time that they have a bridge (piece of aluminum with mesh that forms a V shape)
I tried using it and got burnt hits, what do I do?
I've had good luck with the bridgeless version but I don't know what to do with these and it's too late to return them.

I followed a youtube video to remove the bridge and then it just didn't do anything at all when I tried to use it.
