I just got my Omnitester, but I'm not exactly sure how to use it; first I tried testing a coil I had just built, screwed the kayfun base into the 510 connector, but when I switched it over to ohms, it showed first 8.88 then just -.-- and that's all it would ever show. When I screwed the base onto a vv3 battery, it showed me 1.8 ohms just fine, so there's nothing wrong with the coil.

On the voltage side, I tried testing the battery voltage on the ARO winder I just received; screwed it in, switched over to the voltage side, and it gave me the same again, 8.88 then -.-- so I tried pressing the fire button on the battery, and then the meter showed me 4.7 then 4.8 volts, but was it just showing me the setting at which the battery was firing, or was it showing me the battery voltage?

Can anyone advise me on this thing? I can't seem to locate any "docs" for it online. I first posted this msg in the thread "new ohm volt tester" but it's kind of an old thread, so it might not be seen for some time, if ever.

Thx!
Andria

I discovered that it must have just not been contacting the center post; I tried it again with the base of my other kayfun, and it worked fine. The cheapie kayfun lite clone I have, the center post apparently keeps the block thingie fastened down, and if you loosen the center post, to let it stick out further, then the block gets loose and moves around, and the coil resistance starts acting really wonky. Needless to say, that cheapie kayfun lite is about to become my "in case of emergency" kayfun, and I'm getting another tobeco KFL+; with that one I can loosen the center post a bit to let it stick out further, and the block doesn't move.

But I'm still not sure about the voltage side; with a battery screwed onto it, I thought it would show me the battery's voltage, but apparently it's just to check the voltage output? Seems kinda useless, if that's true; I was hoping it would show the battery's voltage, so i could check battery life remaining on my cheapie ecgo-c twist, and on the new ARO winder I just got.

Chipotle.
You are using it correctly, it refreshes the display every time you flip the switch so it will show 8.88 for a second, completely normal. You have to fire any battery or mod that is screwed in to the voltage side to see what the voltage is, also normal. What is really cool is that you can screw the atomizer on, screw the battery on then fire it and read the voltage as it is supplied to the atomizer, so you can easily calculate voltage drop as well...you can also vape while it is set up that way, haha.

Sometimes it may not contact a certain atomizer because the pin is too far down though(has happened to me). Thankfully you can pop the back cover off to get at the back side of the 510 connection, I had some wiggling in the connectors on mine and I was able to tighten everything all the way up from the back. Plastic pops off, a small flat head screwdriver can aid in removing it but don't stick it in past the edge, don't want to hit any wires or the battery.

Edit: Me being the modder that I am, I am looking at the inside of this and saying to myself "I could definitely fit another battery in there". Perhaps that is a mod for a rainy day.

To answer the OPs question about the voltage: That feature is not going to work for regulated mods or ego style batteries. The voltage output is going to read as whatever the device is set to, so there is no way for it to actually test the amount of battery life. It is meant to test for voltage drop on unregulated (mechanical) mods.

i seem to think it would in fact read the voltage of unregulated, non-twist style egos. but perhaps the PWM of the egos would throw a monkey wrench into the works. however i seem to remember my multimeter reading regular ego's remaining voltage, so perhaps the omni would work the same way.

My Omnitester just sucks. The voltage option shorted out on me within a week. Now if I try to measure voltage on it I just get a hot battery. It works for resistance, but as was said it's not too accurate since it only goes to one place. If I wanna push limits, I have to assume a variable of +-0.05 ohms, which makes a big difference.

I'm replacing mine with something better ASAP.

I have been playing with this one from nhaler. => OHM Meter with Voltage Adapter

If you drop below 1.0 ohm it actually reads three positions, dropping the decimal position in the process. The reported accuracy of the thing is very good, but I'm still not sure about that. Still putting it through it's paces.
