Where you least expect it....
There are a few signs to know when to change your carto.

1. You will notice that the draw becomes very tight.
2. Performance diminishes.
3. Ultimately, they will taste burnt. Although, I recommend changing before that time. There is a long thread in the cartomizer issue section of the forum explaining the dangers of a burnt cartomizer. Might be worth checking out.

Generally, I only use cartomizers to about 15ml.

It's really not worth trying to extend the life of a cartomizer. Although, if you really want to clean them.

1. Then you can boil them for several minutes until you can smell the e-liquid.

2. Drain and repeat until you can't smell anything.

3. Let them dry from anywhere from 48 hrs or two weeks. Depending on the weather in your area. Some do bake them in the oven but, I've never tried that before...so, I'm not gonna comment on that.

I think really like any carto when the flavor and vapor starts to fall its getting worn. Ive cleaned mine by soaking them in hot water and drying them in the sun. I get more life out of them that way. I havent burned one yet and have not used one until it got to that point.

I think you can clean a carto and use another liquid without any major issues. There might be a slight lingering of the previous liquid, but you'll vape it out in no time. Just as with any carto. Ive had good results myself.

Thanks ya'll....so in my 6 ml tank a little more than two tank fulls will be about the life of a carto or until it taste burnt or performance diminishes....Making notes :)....Also, i'm using this on my riva battery. What size ohm carto would be best for taste and vapor? I'm not sure of ohm size that came with it. Should i do single coil or dual coil on my battery? Wanting to stock up on cartos and need to know the very best one to use. Thanks again! My hubby took my vivi nova tank...so trying to learn a bit more about these.

Edit: Ratman summed itup nicely :toast:

I really go by overall performance. I have a single coil 3ohm carto in a tank that I ve been using for a week. At least 8 to 10 fills. Its still working just as good as the 2nd or 3rd fill. Nothing like when it was new. But not ready to be tossed either.

Some cartos will last a while and others wont. Its a "replace when you feel its time to".

I cant make any recommendations as I know nothing about a Riva. Sad to say but its true lol... If its not a variable volt device then I would go with single coil cartos. If you were happy with the Vivi tank, then I would suggest single coil cartos in the low 2ohm range. 2.0 to 2.4 but really think this is also personal preference.

Cartos are cheap enough, so maybe pick up a few different ohms and see what you like best with your battery.

In the long run, you'll save yourself a lot more money punching your own cartomizers. You can buy a 1/4 self tapping saddle valve at your local hardware store. Look in the plumbing department.

They're cheap and you don't have to wait for it to be shipped. It's a win...win investment.

That totally depends! I vape what should be a carto killer, 60% VG or so. I start with dual punched 3 ohm (ignore the impedence, that matches the device more than the # of punches). When I replace, I go to boges that I put three punches in. The pyrex tank I am using right this minute has had minimum 30ml through the original carto. The draw is finally noticable as tighter than before. I'll finish the juice in it and put a new one in.

Cartos can be very good as often as they can be very bad right out of the package. I've pulled a couple after drawing twice on them. Didn't even want to bother suffering through a full tank of juice.
