how do you know when your carto is dead?

Pardon me for asking a dumb question but I'm still new. I've been using the same carto on for about 5 days now and just keeping it topped off. How do I know when the carto has reached the end of it's life span and can no longer be refilled or needs to be cleaned.

Do you recommend cleaning them or just toss and use a new one?

It will not vape and you might get liquid in mouth. Try cleaning in warm water and let dry out while using another. Many methods on YouTube.
