Some time ago, I had the same question. How was possible for them to inhale that long if I could not do it. Then I figure out the trick...
They inhale directly to the lungs, they do not inhale first to the mouth and then to the lungs. For that you have to suck you e-cig a little different.
I did it and was able to drag for a long time, maybe 30 seconds. But to tell you the true.... I didn't like it! It was too strong for me, so I prefer less vapor with my normal drag.

I use a manual JS. What I find myself doing is taking a long, slow hit into the mouth only until I reach the device's cut-off. Then, I open my mouth and inhale. Just like an analog. It's the ultimate in throat hit. To be honest, I could care less about plumes of vapor. Psychologically, we all want to mimic the analog so the sight of vapor is important from that aspect but all these devices/juices emit more vapor, way more, than the average drag of an analog. To me it's all about the throat hit (and/or lung hit) or I'd just assume suck on a Bic pen. =)
For the OP, practice reaching the device's cut-off point. It takes a little getting used to but I've done it with all my devices. The JS being the hardest because the cut-off seems like an eternity away at first. After awhile, it becomes a normal *drag*. And sometimes, it's even disappointing to see the LED changing phases denoting that the cut-off is coming because you want the hit to be even bigger. LOL
An interesting note here -- when I first started vaping and not smoking, there was NO WAY I could take as big a hit as I do now -- NO WAY. It's my belief that my lung capacity has increased since I quit analogs. I even find myself taking a hit on my JS as I walk up the stairs. I would never have done that with an analog -- not unless the paramedics were waiting for me at the landing with oxygen at the ready. =)
