Hiya.

I am brand new—and not just at vaping (been at it for about 6 weeks now), but at forums, too. I’ve never really felt compelled to join one until now, but I’ve really gotta talk to you all.

I’ve been a smoker for 20+ years (holy crap that’s scary to say), and I don’t know about you guys, but I’ve never noticed any sort of smokers’ “community.” Aside from nodding at each other outside restaurants and airports, there wasn’t a whole lot of camaraderie. It changed a little in recent years, when the bans and tax hikes started, because we could grumble about something together while standing 10 feet apart in our smoking spots, but aside from that we had nearly nothing in common.

When I discovered this forum, I found something that I’ve never seen before: a community of smokers! Unbelievable. And absolutely everyone here is so generous, welcoming, and kind-hearted, and full of brilliant advice and infinite patience. I can only imagine how awesome it feels to be able to encourage people toward your new habit and know it can only do them a world of good.

When one of my coworkers told me about PVs (I didn’t even know they existed), I naturally went online to check it out, and found ECF. And I am so, so grateful. It was you all who helped me choose what to buy and from whom (huge thanks for steering me toward Electro-Nic-Stix), and you all who taught me how to clean and fill (legendary status to Taryn!). I learn tons of useful information from you every day, and all without feeling like a complete tool because of everyone’s genuine kindness in helping all us noobs along.

So if no one’s said it to everyone at ECF in a while, THANK YOU. I hope the community continues to grow and encourage ex-analog smokers to make the switch, and to band together to protect our rights. You guys are the bomb.

We are smoking... the cigarette... of the FYU-CHA!!!

Sugarmamma, Welcome to the Forum, and wish you continued success in your new Venture. I stopped smoking analogs 2 months ago , after a 50 year habit and am loving it..i remember buying Marlboro Reds for 17 cent a pack when i was in Service.
This is a good community of x smokers here and I haven't met anyone yet , not willing to help others out, so if ya need any help just give a shout. Help is coming.

Welcome to ECF, this has been a god send for me. I had been vaping for several months but really didn't know what I was doing, I did manage to cut down from 2 packs to 1 pack a day with the ones I had but once I found the forum and got the right e-cig I quit analogs almost by accident in a couple of days. I have been smoke free for 2 weeks now and feel great, even my doctor was impressed and supportive. Thank goodness for all the good people on ECF and good luck with your journey.

Hi Sugarmama, Welcome to the forum. I know exactly how you feel, both about smoking and forums. I felt very awkward at first, since I didn't know forum etiquette. Everyone was so very kind. Another thing that many of us have in common is that we had tried everything else to get off those nasty, expensive cigarettes and none of them worked. Now, not only do I feel successful, but I feel like I have this wonderful extended family. Life is good.

Thanks, everybody! I think the best part about "quitting" is that I didn't even set out to quit! I've always been pretty selfish about my addiction (well, hell, isn't everyone?) and didn't have any plans to stop smoking. But once I found the PVs, it was possible to just switch over and just quit all that additive/combustible crap that was the really bad part about smoking. So I feel like I'm cheating, but I feel really good about it! It used to take me 5-6 days to go through a carton of cigarettes - the last carton took THREE WEEKS!! I started out with just a pass-through 510, since I did most of my smoking when I was on the computer or in the car, and I didn't want to worry at first about keeping batteries charged. I finally got my first "walkaround" PV on Wednesday, so yesterday was my first truly smoke-free day. It was so easy. Aside from feeling a little dehydrated, I don't feel any different. My husband kept looking at me funny, like he expected me to just fall over without having a cigarette all day.

There's no way I would have gotten even this far without all the great posts and advice here on the forum. My big dream now is to become enough of a vet to help new members myself!

You will, Sugarmama. There is a lot to learn, but you will be amazed at how quickly you will have picked it all up. One of these days (it won't be that long, even) some newbie will come on here with a question and it will be about something that you dealt with or just read about or can figure out, and you'll be answering newbie questions like it's "old hat." Welcome to ECF and to the world of vaping. Isn't it wonderful???

I just had a blond moment. I read your post, what a great post btw. Then at the end I am looking and cocking my head..and thinking.... "Did she just say f u China?" "no maybe FYU is a Chinese name... is the abbreviation for China CHA??.. eh whatever." Then I read the post again. Cause damn it's really nicely written. Then promptly smacked myself in the head.. duh.. Thought I would share, made me laugh <g>
Yeah I read somewhere on here, that VG and PG is a humectant. I am too lazy to search for it. The gist of it was it absorbs the moisture in your mouth and throat and turns it into the water vapor you are exhaling. Dehydration, dry throat or mouth. So drink your fluids.

I was very similar to you, I really didn't and don't want to quit. I feel kinda bad about it.. I am NOT A QUITTER. heh. However I have decided that in my mind, technically I didn't quit. I am still addicted to my drug'o'choice.

LOL at the FYU-CHA bit! Yeah, I was going for a kind of echo effect there - guess it kinda backfired, huh? Heh.
Thanks for the kind words about the post! I'm still having a problem remembering to drink water; coffee's my beverage of choice, and that's ALSO dehydrating. Smart. So I've been carrying around a bottle of water and positioning it right in front of my face, hoping it will sink in somehow.

I'm with you - still not a quitter, just a switcher! Also feel kinda bad, but not too much, since I'm still managing to do my body a favor.

And I'm currently enjoying my 510 pass-through with a fine drip-tip, courtesy of your advice... Lovely!
