I was perusing xtardirect and noticed this:

Introducing our XT-VTC5 battery! Due to the overwhelming demand and shortage of the Sony VTC4 and VTC5 batteries, xtar has decided to manufacture and engineer our very own high-drain battery which not only competes and performs better than the SONY VTC4, but offers higher capacity at a lower price. Our batteries are trusted, certified, and guaranteed to deliver exceptional performance.
Features:
- Safety: Safety is always the #1 priority when manufacturing batteries. The XT-VTC5 is designed with a multi-protection battery cell.
- High drain: 25A high-drain current and lower internal resistance ensures enough power to drive your mods.
- Huge capacity: 2400mAh capacity which is 300mAh more than the VTC4, not only ensures enough energy and endurance but it can support over 500+ charge cycles.
- Low price: The price of XT-VTC5 is only about two-thirds of the price of the Sony VTC5, even lower than VTC4 which makes it the best cost-saving alternative.
- Flat top: Exact size to the VTC4/VTC4. Will work on all mods and vapes that is VTC4/VTC5 compatible.
- Reliable supply: Because we manufacture the batteries, we will have a sufficient number of battery cells on hand.

i like the idea..........how many have you bought:D

i know the temptation i have about 25 VTC's.........like to see some of the flashlight folks tests on these.

None... yet.

I'll wait until these things are out in the wild and some of the battery tester folks have done their thing. I'm also up to about 25 18650s... mostly VTCs but some Samsung 25Rs in the mix as well. I have four more Samsungs arriving tomorrow, lol. I swore I was going to stop buying batteries but then Lightning Vapes re-stocked VTC4s and then BF hit and the 25Rs could be had for $5.50 each. But, I have three more mods showing up soon, two of them dual battery boxes. So, I guess it doesn't hurt to have more batteries than I need.

I have used the XTAR HD's for about a month and like the performance. They are used in a Reo with .8 ohm dual coil atty and last at least through 6 mls of juice. No scientific testing done, just daily use. I probably should take notes on what the voltage is after 6 mls but there is no real noticeable change to the vape.

Just checked the voltage on one as I add juice to my Reo and according to my multimeter the voltage is 3.72. I always change batteries when it is time to refill the juice.

I smell a VTC5 rewrap IMO...besides they have a "sony" contract now so I am sure they can market it however they wish and take all the credit

If that was the case I'd imagine they'd be marketing it as a 30A 2600mAh cell. And I'm not sure there are any VTC5s to re-wrap at this point.

Re-wrapping Sony cells doesn't necessarily means they have an official contract with Sony or becoming their partner as rumored. Xtar can simply buy surplus Sony cells in the open market just like any other re-wrappers.
