What does it mean to follow Jesus? It means to imitate His example, as much as you can. His perfect example of love and humility. He lowered Himself so that others could be exalted.

Can you imagine that? He lowered Himself, to become a man, allowed His enemies to torture and kill Him, and even through that He asked forgiveness on their behalf while He laid dying, mocked, and in pain. Even while they gambled for His clothes, He loved them still.

God does not expect us to do anything that He has not experienced Himself, and showed us how to do it. Humility IS love. This is a concept that is a little complicated.

But, stay with me here because it's important. When you humble yourself before another person, you are loving that person enough to put them before you.

When you ask Jesus to come into your life and repent from your sins, you are humbling yourself before Him. You are recognizing that He is more important and more powerful then you, and that you are an imperfect sinner. The moment that you understand and embrace that, you have become a Christian and God Himself lifts you up when you bow down before Him and humble yourself.

A lot of people think that's the goal, to become a christian, but it's not, that is only the starting point, the beginning. From there, we are to grow and mature, putting on a christ like personality ourselves. We are to become a new person inside our hearts and minds and put on the humility and love of Jesus. He showed us how, He sent the perfect example for us to follow.

When you humble yourself and show love to another person, you are not only showing them love, not only showing God love, and you are also showing yourself love because you are putting in motion your love for God. "For whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and whoever humbles himself will be exalted."

In the world, a humble person is often looked upon as weak, and a big loud tough person is looked upon as strong. This is actually the opposite of the truth. A humble person is strong in self restraint, self assured, and does not need to put himself above another person to make himself feel important. He already knows he's important, he's sure of himself, and he has mastered his own ego and emotions. The tough person is actually very weak minded and has to use fear and bully people into respecting him because he has nothing else to offer, nothing of value at all and he knows it. The tough person is also very insecure because deep down inside he knows that he's small and insignificant, and he yells the loudest and knocks others down to "appear" to be strong.

This verse came to my mind this morning ""Faith without works is dead". Faith, (the belief in something), without works, (putting that belief into motion), is dead.

What does that mean exactly? To me, it means that if you say that you love God, but you do not do your best to imitate Him in your daily life, then your faith is dead and worthless.

Ok, so how do you imitate Him? By showing love and humility, because that's what He focused on during His time here with us.

Picture 4 people. Two are focused on Jesus's example of showing love and humility. The other two are self serving. The two that are focused on humility and love will constantly build eachother up naturally, by each one putting the others needs ahead of their own. This will built both up together, equally, by eachother.

But the 2 that are only focused on self serving, will struggle with eachother for power, control, and trying to be better, and have more, then the other one.

Picture a world with only self serving people, and what it would be like. Then picture a world with only humble loving people and what that would be like.

See the big picture? It's a domino effect, and it starts with you.

God gave us a book, but He didn't just leave it at that, He came here to show us how. No, it's not easy! Nobody said it would be, in fact Jesus Himself told us how hard it would be to overcome these issues of pride and selfishness because those traits are hard to get rid of when you live in a world where you feel you have to fight to survive and yell to be heard.

But that's what sets us apart. We are not supposed to be like the world, we are supposed to stand apart, be different, clothed in modesty, humility, love, compassion and grace. Yea....yea....yea....everybody knows that, right? That's basic stuff, we have all heard it before. So you've heard it, but do you FEEL it? Do you act upon it and put it into action?

When you're cut off in traffic, do you slam on your horn and yell at the person in front? When you're wronged, do you strike back? If somebody slaps you, do you slap back? If somebody does not forgive you, do you still forgive him? If somebody insults you, do you hang onto that offense? If somebody has made a mistake, are you quick to point it out? Do you keep score?

If you have not answered yes to any of those questions, you're a liar! We all do these things, myself included. But being a Christian, a follower of Jesus, requires us to constantly work at overcoming these imperfections.

All humbled.....all at once.....we would have a Spirit filled party.....full of tears, full of rejoicing, full of respect and honor, full of gratefulness, full of shame, too, but full of forgiving love that we should all do for each other every day and fall so very short. I know I do. I don't know why I think God needs defending. I stand tall with Him, and I voice it. Maybe satan is speaking through us, or just me, like he did with Peter talking to Jesus about going into Jerusalem.
Forgive me, Lord from the shame I have done in Your Name. You have my attention, Father. Teach me. I have no defense that could stand under Your watchful eye. I have sinned and fallen short of the Glory of You. I need to quit walking in Peter's footsteps and start walking in Yours. Lord I am so very sorry. Thank You for the forgiveness You so richly give and I accept it....always....You have my heart. For it's in the Wonderful Name of the Prince of Peace..Jesus, I ask....Amein.

Amen for me too my most precious sister Linda! My picture is hanging on that wall of shame too, everybody's picture is there. But we do not need to be upset or sad. We just need to change, we need to follow our Lord and Savior, that perfect example. We need to examine our hearts and let Him guide us, let Him change and mold us so that we can do His will. :)

It's a struggle, and we will fall flat on our faces every single day. I do multiple times a day, but we bow down, ask forgiveness, and allow Him to pick us back up again.

That's the Glory of God. He always forgives, not 9 times, but 99999999999999999 times infinity!!!!!! He is so loving, sp patient, so understanding, so forgiving, so good, so righteous, so holy.........if we continue to allow Him to mold and shape us into what He wants us to be, so that we might be useful to Him. We are the servants of the Most High, the humble servants. :):)

More thoughts on this topic:

Now the opposite of humility is pride. Think back to the original sin, it was pride! Satan became proud, he wanted that worship for himself and he felt that he deserved it.

Proverbs 16:17-18 (New International Version)

17 The highway of the upright avoids evil;
those who guard their ways preserve their lives.

18 Pride goes before destruction,
a haughty spirit before a fall.

Pride is the reason for so much evil and suffering in the world, and it's the opposite of humility. Pride tells you that you're right. Pride tells you that you're more important. Pride tells you that you are deserving. Pride tells you that you're better then someone else. Pride tells you that you're entitled. Pride causes you to put yourself above others. Pride is stubborn, unforgiving, unloving, selfish and uncaring. Pride is worshiping yourself.

Pride was the downfall of satan, and it's also the downfall of mankind. Pride is your enemy, do whatever you have to in order to gain control over it and master it with pure humility in Christ. Jesus was able to do it perfectly.

We won't be able to do it perfectly, but if we are trying as best as we possibly can, we are on that road to everlasting life. A proud person will probably not enter the Kingdom of God unless he is able to see it, admit it, and change it with the help of God.

How wonderfully written Lisa....seriously!

I pray the Lord let this teaching to sink in and become the very fiber of my being.

The Lord is so good to us all.

Thanks for sharing

Thank you sisters! I was a little concerned about posting it, because I didn't want anyone here to think that I"m pointing the finger at them, and that this teaching is directed at them. This teaching was for me, I need improvement in this area, I needed deeper understanding, I am imperfect and need help in this area, and after alot of prayer and soul searching, this is the understanding that I was left with, and I do believe it was guided by the Holy Spirit because it is in agreement with the words and spirit of Jesus.

So, I wanted to share it with all of you with the hope that everyone could grow from it and be also be blessed by it. :)

Well I am glad you shared it Lisa! :) It is making me sit back and think a bit in my own life. I think we all need some "guidance" in this area from time to time. lol. And me certainly! I am no angel!

This statement is very true. I wish all ppl could recognize this. So many ppl think that loud and "pushy" is power. How false indeed.

I'm with you Imrasch.. The Lord is speaking through you and definitely 'to' me on this one LisaLisa!
I love Christ so much (and His word) that I feel like I have to 'defend' Him.. however, Christ doesn't need me to 'defend' Him, He needs me to empty myself so that He can live in me and through me. Then & only then will my witness be effective.

Matthew Chapter 18

Questions About the Greatest

18:1 At that time the disciples came to Jesus saying, “Who is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven?” 18:2 He called a child, had him stand among them, 18:3 and said, “I tell you the truth, 1 unless you turn around and become like little children, 2 you will never 3 enter the kingdom of heaven! 18:4 Whoever then humbles himself like this little child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven. 18:5 And whoever welcomes 4 a child like this in my name welcomes me.

18:6 “But if anyone causes one of these little ones who believe in me to sin, 5 it would be better for him to have a huge millstone 6 hung around his neck and to be drowned in the open sea. 7 18:7 Woe to the world because of stumbling blocks! It 8 is necessary that stumbling blocks come, but woe to the person through whom they come. 18:8 If 9 your hand or your foot causes you to sin, 10 cut it off and throw it away. It is better for you to enter life crippled or lame than to have 11 two hands or two feet and be thrown into eternal fire. 18:9 And if your eye causes you to sin, tear it out and throw it away. It is better for you to enter into life with one eye than to have 12 two eyes and be thrown into fiery hell. 13

The scripture I highlighted in 'red' up there.. yeah, that's the one I always think of all of the time that we have to be very careful about. If my 'bad' behavior causes anyone to re-think knowing Christ.... I KNOW I'm in deep trouble.

Aren't we all????!!!! I don't think E, that you, me, or anyone here would do that intentionally. It's those sins that we're trapped in that we aren't aware of that make us go uh oh......or at least it is for me.

Yes, I agree! All of us sin, all of us do stupid things. It's the intentional sin that's the bad one, not stuff done, of things said out of stupidity or ignorance, there has to be evil motivation behind it. Atleast that's what I think :)
