Last night, I watched that webcast mod Envy for the first time, and they kept talking about hybrid mods. I have been vaping for a year or so but keep it pretty simple. I use a Innokin SVD.

Anyway, I am curious. They were talking a lot about hybrid mods. I know what mine is and I know what a mechanical mod is, but what is a hybrid? How do they differ from what I have right now, and are there any advantages?

If the picture comes through, that's one taken apart. I don't feel that there is an advantage to hybrids really. They look really nice but I prefer the changeable toppers, easier to coil, easier to meter too, you can't pop a hybrid on an ohm meter. The one I got was really cheap, just a check it out sort of thing. It sits in my drawer.:p I like to tinker but I guess not that much.

I posted yesterday about an issue we discovered with my wife on those v3's. If the coil gets to hot that center post is mostly plastic and was starting to melt giving her plastic fume hits. Be careful with that, through testing I found that anything below 2 ohm was causing the plastic to heat up to much.

There are some atomizers that are made to be used as hybrids on specific mechanical mods. The AIOS TD for the Chi You is an example.

Currently, I'm waiting on an Origen mod clone and Aqua clone which can also be used together as a hybrid.

The advantage is less voltage drop and the seamless look.

Hybrids a mod + atty that can't be taken apart. I would like to have one (Valkyrie) in my arsenal, but I'm certainly in no rush for one, as I can't see any advantages besides voltage drop reduction and asthetics.

EDIT: I don't know of any hybrids that aren't mechs with genesis attys or dripper attys

Orion v3, or a zen carto tank is outside that description.

A hybrid is a any mod that uses either a disc or a proprietary pin rather than a 510 connection to connect the battery tube to a rebuildable dripping atomizer or a genesis styled rebuildable atomizer tank. These discs or pins have a larger surface areas than the small disk inside of the 510 connection. This makes the voltage drop much less than any 510 connection mechanical mod. Voltage drop is important for people whom are using their mechanicals without a kick, because we need voltage to be consistently above 3.5 volts until the battery is fully drained. A 1 ohm coil needs to be at around 3.5 volts or higher to produce a satisfactory vapor. If a mod is experiencing a .50-.80 voltage drop, then that means when the battery is at half-charge, the battery's internal voltage will have dropped to 3.6 volts naturally... 3.6 volts would be fine, but then you have to minus a .5 volt voltage drop, which = 2 volts. This means that you'll be wanting a fresh battery just halfway through your battery's charge. This is unacceptable to most $100-200 mechanical mod owners, and most hybrid mod owners. This is why there are expensive mechanical and hybrid mods. For the confidence in knowing your getting something that does NOT have a high voltage drop. Because the bigger the voltage drop, the less time you'll get between charges. Its 1 thing if you have a half volt voltage drop in your mechanical mod that takes an 18650 battery, but if you've got a half volt drop in a mod that utilizes 18350 batteries, your going to need a new battery in 3-4 vapes.

3.6v - 0.5v = 2.0v?
