I was previously a heavy smoker.I quit smoking 6 months ago and i start e-cig. Now i appear thyreotoxicosis Graves and i don't know if there is any relationship. Searching the internet i didn't found any connection , instead i read that smoking produces hyperthyroidism. However because it is a quite new product , has any one other the same experience? Please if yes contact with me .

Welcome in....I cannot say it is a not a cause but can say that smoking does play a role in metabolism. Are you taking a Thyroid medication such as Levothyroxin, Thyrolar and Synthroid? I can also say that smoking cessation will cause the thyroid hormone production to change and actually fluctuate for a period of time until it stabilizes.

That said, I doubt that the use of E cigs will be a cause. The E liquids used rapidly metabolize and are out of the system rather fast giving any residual very little time to be in the bloodstream to have any or little impact on Thyroid function.

Do...relay this info on to your Physician and allow him or her monitor your T cell levels along with an idea of how much vaping is done along with the type of juices vaped. He or she may suggest not vaping for a trial period to rule any suspicion of it having any impact.

The best way to get a handle on this is to stop all use and get the Thyroid levels stabilized with medication then return to usage, then again in 90 days get another blood test to see if the use has any impact.

Good luck!

There is more information here: Health, Safety and E-Smoking

I have had hypothyroidism (underactive thyroid) for about 30 years. Since quitting smoking, I've needed lower dosage of synthroid than previously. The thyroid gland is a tricky beast and levels rarely stay level -- always fluctuating with or without smoking. But smoking did cause the thyroid to be more depressed in me and I am now on the lowest dosage of medication I've ever been on.

Check out the Health and safety forum. There was information regarding thyroidism (all of them) there.

This is great news to me! I have been taking synthroid now for a couple of years. Now that I've stopped smoking, maybe I can get my dosage lowered or stop taking it completely. I've got an appointment with my family physician on the 25th of this month and after I tell him that I've quit smoking and he sees how low my BP has dropped (hopefully he'll drop the dosage on my BP med - YAY!), I am certain that he will have me get some blood work done.
