My name is Danielle. I am 23 years old and have smoked since 2008. The price of cigarettes have gone insane especially since I smoke the name brand "New Port" at $46.00 a carton. Mind you I smoke a carton in about a week and half. I have heard several people speak about the "liquid" e ciggs and I have even tried the cheap electronic ciggs that don't work at all. Are there any types out there that would be great for me to try ?? Thanks.

I just switched at the beginning of the month. I went down to my local shop and picked up an Evod starter kit. I like the smaller form factor because it was cheaper and more discreet. I love using my vaporizer. The customization and flavor are fantastic. Granted, I just upgraded to a variable Evod today but I'm a happy guy.

I'll let the more experienced crowd chime in on this one...

Not getting the traffic I expected to this one, but there you go OP, this worked for tiernan. Sounds similar to what worked for me. Doesn't really have to be just "this one" kit, there are many to choose from and most will work!

Check out the local brick and mortar shops. There is a plethora of PVs (personal vaporizers) available from the simple to the insane.

Here is just one from a quick search.

http://www.myvaporstore.com/Vision_Spinner_Joye_Ego_C_Twist_Combo_p/vvs-c.htm

If you are really serious about quitting, get a basic starter kit, with a spare battery and a few juices. You smoke about 1.5 packs a day? I'm not sure how much nic you should shoot for, iirc it's about 18-24 mg. I'm sure there will be others to advise you and can make a more educated suggestion.

Welcome to ECF and best of luck to you!

If you have a decent local vape store, stop in there and see what they recommend. My local shop set me up with a couple of ego batteries, charger, a bottle of juice, and a couple of clearomizers. It was all I needed at the time to make the switch. After a month or so when I was sure it was a success, I started looking at upgrades. GOOD LUCK!

Hi Danielle,
I'm a novice at this myself and now I'm enjoying it very much. There are a lot of folks here who have years of experience and I'm sure many of us who vape have our own preferences.

I, myself went to a particular E-Cig store quite by accident, but it proved to be the best thing I did..almost. I left my "old" E-cig at home and was on the road, so I stopped at a brand new E-cig store and the guys there fixed me up with an E-Go C Twist battery, an IClear 16 Clearomizer (tank) and it came with an AC adapter so I could charge it. The battery was about 3/4 full right out of the box, and I bought a 15ml bottle of "Flavor-Z" Cup of Joe, and also got a lanyard to wear around my neck so I wouldn't have to keep reaching and pocketing the E-Cig. I also bought a pack of "coils" and an extra IClear 16 clearomizer ...just in case....

I had been vaping off and on for years when they first came out, and tried a lot of e-cigs and kept buying them until I could find one that held enough e-liquid so I wouldn't have to keep dropping liquid onto a piece of fibre and having a horrible taste when I vaped because it dried out so quickly.

I also found that IMO, those e-cigs that you buy at a gas station or in a mall or flea market that look like real cigarettes didn't give off nearly enough vapor and no throat hit. Of course if you just want to give it a try, then I guess you might want to try something cheaper than the far more reliable tank and battery. I thought I wasted too much money on the ones that looked like a real analog cigarette. If you do try one of those that look like a real cigarette please don't get the idea that ALL E-cigs are like those. Also, when you get a real looking one, and if it has an orange glow on the tip when you inhale, some people do complain because it LOOKS like you're smoking a real tobacco cigarette. The newer "battery and tank" models really leave no doubt that you're vaping and not smoking.

For many folks, it takes a little getting used to, but once you get the flavors you like and you get a good vape and throat hit..you will soon find out that reaching for the E-cig instead of the analog cig will be easy to get used to.

Also, when you buy your E-liquid, you will see that you can get it with lots of nicotine or zero nicotine....your choice. Some folks start with a higher nicotine so they can wean themselves off it and clear the drug out of their system.

I'm still learning about it all and I think I have every "style" of E-cig that's come out over the years. It's become a hobby with me now and it's nice when I can say "no" to an analog and just use my E-cig.

The folks on this forum are really nice, patient, and very helpful.

I know you said you've tried the "cheap" E-cig and were obviously not too happy with them...IMO, the battery and tank are the way to go.

Good luck and happy vaping...and Happy Thanksgiving as well!

That link above is exactly what I often recommend to people.
It's not the cheapest - but it IS really good gear, that you could actually use for quite a while, and get a "satisfying vape" with.
All you need on top of that is eliquid, or "juice".
If it's too expensive, let us know, and we'll find cheaper kits - but you'd have to give something up (like having 2, so you can use one while the other charges...).
For juice, you could try MtBakerVapor.com or MrELiquid.com. Both lower priced, but well known here...
Actually, take a look at MtBaker's "starter kits" too - they have a couple decent deals there, so you could maybe shop all in one place.

Hi Danielle. Welcome to ECF and as others have said, you've come to the right place is you are thinking about switching to vaping. You'll find that there are many opinions here about what equipment to start with, and that is because there are tons of good options available. It seems that the only limiting factors are budget and personal preference.

I've only been vaping for 55 days, so am really new to this. Prior to starting I lurked here and read a lot of info before investing in my first set-up. Based on the info shared here and from a friend who started vaping a month before I did, I went to a local store and got my first (and current) set up.

I was a menthol smoker, Newport, Marlboro Smoothes, Pall Mall Menthols, usually what I could find on sale because I am budget conscious. So the set up I got was an ego T upgraded battery (1000mah), a Kanger MT3S BCC (bottom coil clearomizer), a home and car charger. I bought doubles of the batteries and clearomizers as well as some extra coils for the clearomizer (because they are replaceable). The person at the shop recommended a menthol flavor mixed with a bit of tobacco flavor juice. I smoked about a pack a day, so I got my juice with an 18mg nicotine level and had very few cravings for a cigarette.

This is only my experience and others will share theirs with you. Because vaping is very individual, I hope you read, research and begin your real vaping journey. This is WAY better than smoking. It is surely true for our health and in my case it is costing me way less than smoking did.

I hope you find what works for you and you join the ranks of us that have used vaping and either cut back or cut out cigarettes from our lives. Namaste.

iclear16, 900mAH --- fifty to sixty bucks initial investment.

Then the must-have-virus will grip you - hard :)

Aside from the health benefits - I live in Europe - rule of thumb on averaged prices for cigarettes across the European Union is a monthly net savings of 100 bucks per month when smoking one pack a day.... Mix your own juices and these numbers tilt even more in your favour...

$1200 a year - that's serious money...

Welcome to ecf. I agree about checking out local shops first. You can get more info about the options and better advice on what to start with. They often also have juice you can taste and get better advice on what strength. If your lucky they may have samples of the strengths to see what feels best. If not you may be able to sweet talk them into it (wink).
Egos and ego twists are overall very good starter batteries. Evod, t3s , and protanks are all excellent "toppers". They are pretty much the same except for size and exterior appearance. Very easy to use with little to no issues.

Danielle, the cheap e-ciggs really seem to be a waste of money & discouraging to say the least! I went the way of cheap & failed! The Evod starter kits are a good starting point. I quit smoking analogs immediately after setting up my kit.
The vaping experience with a good product will give you long lasting batteries, fairly big puffs, reliability.
I started off using about 18mg nic juice & have already bought some 12mg for my next batches.
Vaping is not all that cheap but neither are ciggys & your health is worth it! Once you have a good kit on the go the cost goes down.. :)

Hi Danielle, and welcome to ECF!

Awww .... Mrs. C beat me to the punch. Seriously though, the kit she posted is what I recommend to all new vapers, it is a very cost effective setup, you get a lot for the money, and it works well. To make it even better, the shop is fantastic and stand behind their products and their customers. I can't say enough about Vape Dojo, it is an awesome place with great staff, and great products!

As for your flavors, pick a selection of them that sound like they might be something that interests you and try them. Don't expect to find a "New Port" flavor that tastes just like cigarettes, you will likely be disappointed. I was a menthol smoker, and thought I would only vape menthol flavors, but so far, I have not been able to find one that actually tastes like a menthol cigarette. I keep looking, but so far no luck.

Based on your roughly 1 pack a day smoking habit, I would recommend you start with an 18mg nicotine strength. I would not recommend going above 18mg for continuous vaping, but if you wanted to keep a bottle of 24mg juice on hand for getting through the stronger cravings, it might not be a bad idea, just remember to try and keep that level for the strong cravings.

Don't be surprised if you find yourself vaping more than you smoked in the beginning, most new vapers go through this. Over time, as you get adjusted to vaping (it is a lot different than smoking), your vaping habit will level out eventually.

Anyway, HTH!

Thanks to everybody that has posted so far. I have tried a couple of the e-cigg knock offs with "the orange light up tip". It was "OK" but only OK. I found myself leaning back to a real cig during the day to get the fill of nicotine that my body was wanting. (it is so addictive). It just wasn't giving me what I needed and tried to change to a different e cigg called the "krave" once again to no prevail did absolutely nothing for me. knowing that I smoke "New ports" is it possible to get a set up or kit that has that taste that I am used to with enough nicotine included to give me the strong feeling ???? Thanks again everybody for helping me get introduced to the world of vaping !

I smoked newports and loved nhalers nuport.

E-Liquid

How much do you want to spend? I didn't want to spend a lot when I first started because I didn't know if vaping was for me. I started with a basic $30 ego starter kit. Once I knew I liked vaping and was going to stick with it, I invested in better equipment. But I was able to quit smoking with the ego kit.
