I am (mostly) clueless but ready to change that.

Hi there, Everyone!

I am 40 year old female and have been smoking for about 22 years. In the last few years I have grown more and more disgusted by all the nasty crap in tobacco cigarettes and desperately wanted to find a way out of using them. I had little confidence in vaping (don't know anyone else that does it) but I finally broke down and purchased a disposable (Krave) 6 days ago. Being the commitment phobe that I am, I alternated between it and my regular cigarettes until I ran out of tobacco. Much to my surprise, I was just fine with not replacing my pack and instead bought a starter kit for Fin e-cigs along with a 5 pack of carts. I am not crazy about the taste as it does not seem to last very long but overall, I am really happy that there is something out there that works well enough that I have not smoked a regular cigarette in 4 days. Now I am on the hunt for the perfect kit/flavor/juice...

Looking forward to sifting through all the info here. I can attest to the overwhelming and confusing amount of stuff out there to be bought and I have high hopes that this place will help me figure out what is worth my time and money.

So... hi all!

I frequently post this link from Baditude because it is spot on IMO What kit to start with.... Juices are a tougher call... what do you like? Tobacco flavors, dessert, fruit, etc... there are many great juice vendors listed here in ECF... and I have yet to give them all a try (but I will trust me ;) - I've use Mount Baker Vapor the last two orders and have been impressed with their order turnaround, fast shipping and good flavors (most recently Hawk Sauce, Twilight, and yes, even Candy Corn)... the only tobacco flavor I still like is RY4 from Route 66 Vapors (local) because there's just so many others to try and... I'm not smoking tobacco anyone - I'm vaping flavors ;) :)

Congrats on getting off of the stinky smokes! As a newbie I am really happy with my Halo G6 starter kit so far, I haven't smoked in two weeks. The G6's are around the same size as a 100 cigarette which is important for me because I'm a chef and can't have anything too bulky on me. I also like that Halo makes their own juice in America, and I can get everything I need from one place. I also like the fact that I can refill my cartos 6 or 7 times with juice before I throw them away.
I'm sure some of the veteran vapors on here will have some more interesting ideas though!

Good for you. There is many, many people who have stopped smoking and now are using E-cigs. It is a learning process of what you like and don't like, thats just the way it is until you find what you like. If you can get away from a E-cig that looks like a cig and want something that lasts longer between charges, I would recommend the (E-Power) setup. It is larger but what I like is that it has replaceable batteries so you can keep a spare that is charged up and when you need to you just unscrew the unit take out the battery and place the spare back in and you are good to go. So you always have something that you can use when you are away from your charger.

Flavors you will just need to try different ones until you find what you like. I use mostly tobacco flavors and ones in a while cinnamon. Even after 2 years I still try something different once in a while, but tobacco flavors work best for me. Others like flavors of all kinds and if they like them that is great.

Hi and welcome! Congratulations on choosing to be cigarette free :toast:

Someone else posted earlier tonight about the Fin, which I hadn't heard of. I did some research and they have 510 sized threading (!) so you have some options to use with them and don't have to toss them when you get a better set-up (I still use my cig-a-likes when I don't want to be noticed out in public). I got a couple of these little puppies and they rock! Okay, they don't rock as much on a cig-a-like as they do on a Twist, but they work quite well and you can put your own flavors in them: New! VISION Nano Clearomizer : GotVapes.com, E-cigarette Supplies - Atomizers Cartomizers Mods Juice and more

You can also pop the top off of the cartos your Fin came with a refill them yourself.

Where do you get your cinnamon juice from? I'd like to try that.

Most e-liquid vendors carry at least one cinnamon flavor (it's my favorite), but you have to be careful with cinnamon based liquids. It's one of the flavors that will degrade polycarbonate, which a lot of the inexpensive vape gear is made of. It doesn't mean you can't vape it, it just means you have to use polypropylene, glass or metal.

Here is a list of some juices members have had bad experiences with: http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/tanks/219179-lets-make-list-juices-flavors-crack-tanks-ce2s-clearos-33.html

Oh wow thanks. I'm vaping the Halo G6's and I'm pretty sure the cartos are aluminum. Should I be good to go?

Thanks so much for all the warm welcomes! Had my first real world experience of why I should have back-up batteries. The damn thing ran out of charge while I was stuck in traffic and no car charger. Grrr. Still - I refrained from stopping and buying a pack of tobacco stinkies. I am so proud!

I am a bit intimated by the larger set ups so just trying to get my head around which of the look-a-likes are good. I have decided I don't like the flavor of the fin but in my limited experience, like the flavor of the Krave (regular tobacco) and want to learn stuff like which ones are interchangeable. Seriously considering V2. Also really interested in the manual batteries. I am having a hard time with weak vapor and frankly, I am thinking that is making the flavor of the fin taste not-so-hot.

I am partial to tobacco flavors but am open to trying some fruity stuff just not menthol. I can't help but wonder how cool it would be to have something sweet now and then for a change.

Thanks again. Going to do some research tonight so I feel certain you will be hearing from me again with lots of questions. :)

Hi horkus1 and welcome to ECF. Congrats on kickin' the stinkies to the curb. Congrats also on your first "test".

Many start with the smaller cig sized PVs...some are happy with that setup while others move to a larger sized PV. Main complaint of the cig sized is life of battery. With the manual PV we are in control of the vape- if stressed and needing a stronger hit I just lean on the button a lil' longer.
Cheers and the Best of Luck...yes questions here are a good thing :thumb:

Most people new to vaping are more comfortable with something the size and appearance of a cigarette, that is perfectly normal. But most of us quickly find that the smaller batteries that the cigalikes use just are not adequate for a satisfactory vaping experience, and move on to the mid-size batteries like the eGo style.

The pre-filled cartridges that you are currently using are also subpar. Using a cigarette size battery really limits your options as far as juice delivery devices go because of their small size. Going with a larger eGo size battery will triple the options to you.

Your intimidation to try the larger batteries is all in your head. Try to convince yourself that you are not smoking (And you are not, you are vaping). Vaping is more work than smoking. Not as easy as just light up and go.

Using a cigalike makes the process to vape harder in reality, because they force you to change batteries more frequently, insure that spent batteries get charged, and to change out the juice delivery device faster.

A larger battery does not need to be exchanged so often and because they can carry larger juice devices, those don't need to be exchanged (or re-filled) as often.

Just some MORE things to ponder.

Hi Horkus...I also started a few weeks ago with the Fin Cig kit from Wal-Mart. I Smoked cigs for about 18 years. I am definitely about convenience so I am overwhelmed by all of the discussion of the brands, juices etc. I tried a couple of Blu flavors (tobacco and vanilla) and I hated it. I think I got used to the sweet taste of the Fin Cig. I tried the menthol Fin Cig and I like it even though i only smoked a couple of method cigs in my life. I do wish that there were different nicotine levels like the Blu has. Maybe I'll learn more here and get more into other kits etc. if only there was a vaping store near me (I'm not into Internet shopping either).

Welcome, just 3 weeks ago I came to this forum and was completely overwhelmed at the options and the decision making as to what investment I wanted to make. That is the 1st part, the hardest part is finding a juice you like that can replace tobacco for you, for me it is a mix of tobbaco and Chocmint flavors (often mixed together) and just when I thought I had it all together I realized tonight that I was vaping wrong (not getting a consistant hit) and watching this guy told me what I was doing wrong.

A PBusardo Tutorial - Vivi Nova Cleaning & Rebuilding - YouTube

Take a few small hits until they all add up, I don't exhale between breaths but the vapor and throat hit is much better just by emulating this. It doesn't matter how hard you suck you will always get the same vapor amount so take your time and double, triple, quadruple hit it.
