Congratulations! You're doing great! Just let things happen naturally. Don't force it. Truthfully, if I tried what you are... a resolution to quit "cold turkey"... I would be setting myself up for utter failure.

Generally, I never told myself I was going to quit as it would make me obsess which is exactly where you might be right now. I just set a few general goals for myself:

1) Delay the first smoke of the day.... vape instead. That created my biggest decrease as I used to start my day with 3 to 5 smokes. That delay progressed from a half hour to 9 hours... naturally... but over time.
2) For the rest of the day, I just made a deal that when I wanted to smoke, I had to vape for x-number of minutes first... helped to stop that habitual smoking.
3) When I did smoke, I had to completely focus on it and put it down when I had enough... not when it was totally burnt. That meant I also had to relight left-overs... yuck.... because as time went on, I really only wanted about a third of a smoke.

I never, ever, beat myself up. I never tried to be like those who had their first vape and never smoked again... way, way, too much pressure and stress for a 59-year-2PAD smoker and, in my view, totally unrealistic. Those are just the ones heard from the most. If I found myself obsessing (big hurdle) I lit up for a few puffs to break the obsession.

Mindset really matters: We all label (ourselves and others) for some reason and our behavior tends to follow the label. After about 18 months, I don't think of myself as a smoker. I'm a vaper. That's what I do the most. If a crisis hits (a huge trigger for me) and I smoke a few (puffs or whole cigs) I still don't identify with smoking. Does the occasional cigar smoker consider themselves a smoker? I don't think so. All I have to do is look around my house. If I wasn't a vaper would I be surrounded by all this vape gear? I'm a vaper who might, due to circumstance, smoke on occasion, not a smoker who vapes on occasion. I keep my health goals in mind and try not to venture into the more political social stigmas and shaming that occur in both the smoke and vape worlds. Health is my incentive, not becoming a member of this or that "class." Mental and emotional health is a precursor to physical health. For the overall health benefits it brings, I try to stay serene.

Wow... after going "advanced" I see how much I've typed. I know it probably doesn't fully address your OP but I'll just leave it as is. It might help someone who comes along.

I smoked 2 packs a day for over 35 years. I purchased my first vaping equipment about 9 months ago and stokked smoking cigs that day. I started off with several very good tasting juices that helped and I was at 24 mg of nicotine, which helped. I have since dropped down to 12 mg nic. I don't think I could smoke a cig today, vaping is so much more fun.

I'm one that smoked and vaped. I did that for about 3 weeeks, give or take. I'd always take my cigs and my vape with me on smoke breaks at work even though cigs were tasting terrible to me. One day I left my cigs in my purse to see how I'd do. I survived the break and into the next break. I probably smoked on the way home, but I did start leaving my cigs in my car.

A big part of it was pressure on myself, like Patkin said. Another part of it, for me, was fear. I'd smoked for over 30 years and was afraid to not have them.

Cigs still weigh in my mind on occasion. I walk myself through that mentally. Lighting it, smelling it, tasting it..... and I remember how gross it tasted and smelled once I started vaping. Seriously, they began tasting NASTY. The smokers I work with stink. I smelled that way, too! My hair, my clothes, my breath. Ugh. I don't want that anymore, yet that urge creeps up on occasion. Now I vape through it.

Cigs get a hold of us in a brutal way. Today I'm winning. :)

My problem - I just can't quit the cigs cold turkey. But, I have gone from smoking 2 packs a day to smoking a pack every 2 to 3 days in just 2 weeks. And I really don't like the taste of the cigs anymore, just old habit I guess.

So, have any of you successfully quit the cigs without immediately just quitting cold turkey? Is there hope for me?

Need some advice and encouragement please .

Of course there's hope! Many go down the exact path as you.

So you went from 40 cigs a day to 7. Thats HUGE!!!! Could you see yourself doing that without the vape? Prolly not.

Find a few more juices. Halo has a standing 10% coupon for you, ECFTEN2014

There was no one way to start smoking. Or vaping. And there is no one way to stop smoking.

I bet you feel better. And isn't it nice to see your nicotine dollars lasting so much longer now?

Do me a favor. I want you to remember to go back to this thread in about 4 weeks, and smile as you see how much progress you have made!!!!

I guarantee you will be smiling!!!!!:vapor::toast::banana::banana::w00t:

Hi Dixie stop worrying your not weak at all and vaping does work for you as you've cut down your on your way it's a journey short for some longer for others there is no set rule or pattern. Sometimes the worst thing people do is over think the whole thing try and relax and carry on as you are. One day it will hit you that you haven't had a cigarette all day and vaping has been enough you'll be so pleased and all the worry will just disappear. Were all individuals and vaping is not the same for any two people so doesn't matter what or how others did it because this is your journey and your off to a good start congratulations on cutting down hang in there and as I said one day you'll be finished and then the real fun starts finding your ideal device\attys\tanks and juice :).

I started vaping almost a year ago, got some bad equipment (it leaked) and really awful juice at a local shop (they recommended for a beginner without even asking me what I liked), I was so discouraged I quit.

So, my resolution for 2014 was to stop smoking - for good!

Went to another local shop, got some good advice, bought a starter kit, got some good juice, I am on my way.

My problem - I just can't quit the cigs cold turkey. But, I have gone from smoking 2 packs a day to smoking a pack every 2 to 3 days in just 2 weeks. And I really don't like the taste of the cigs anymore, just old habit I guess.

Oh, I feel your pain! I hate that I smoked that "regular" cig this morning. It's like failing and I hate it!

I wanted to wait to come back to this post until I had been cig free for over a week. Added my banner today! ! !

I still have a open pack with 2 cigs on my desk, been there for 11 days untouched. I am smiling.

It took me at least 3 months before I completely quit smoking and now just a month later I can not even smoke one if I wanted to. My body is now rejecting cigarettes if I take more than 1 or 2 puffs.

The past week or so I've been sick and noticed something even more impressive, which is my drive to vape while ill is MUCH lower than my drive used to be to smoke while sick so I have to conclude that vaping is less addictive than cigarettes.

Good luck! You are on the right path.

Same for me! If I don't vape so be it. Not hardly the case with cigarettes.
