My initial purchase was altsmoke.com Volt beginner kit.
I threw away one cartridge before I saw a video that showed they are refillable.

1st question: How many cartridges can 10ml fill?

7.95 for 10ml of the juice vs 8.95 for 5 cartridges?

2nd question: What is all the electrical stuff about ecigs?

I learn best via videos...so if there are videos explaining this I would love to view them.

3rd question: I think I could go the rest of my life using only the Volt stuff.

Do MOST (if not all) people graduate to the fancy stuff? (I say fancy cause I still have a lot to learn)..and is the Volt stuff more or less expensive than the other stuff?

I purchased 10 cartons of small cigars from an Indian res. just before I got bronchitis and was forced to quit smoking...last time I got bronchitis, I started smoking again after 1 month quit.

4th Question: Will the better (more sophisticated stuff) better ensure I will not restart smoking?

I have viewed so many videos and read so much my head is spinning. Guess I am an slow learner, as some come in the newbie section knowing all the jargon and have knowledge beyond my comprehension.
You folk are AMAZING, kind and helpful.

Eventually people DO graduate up to more "workhorse" rigs searching for the perfect vape, the variable volt/wattage stuff is just a way to control the vape quality by adjusting the electrical current the battery pushes thru the coil making the heat that makes the vapor, it allows much more flexibility thus easier to dial in that "perfect vape"

Head over to the library and read the stickies, 6 part intro and walkthru from the cigalikes to the workhorse APV's

The ECF Library

Just remember...EVERYONE starts off at a noob...depending on what you learn and how you apply it will then determine if you MASTER it ;)

There is a tremendous amount of different stuff out there (and in here). Take your time, don't drink from the firehose for too long at once! ;-)

Many many people start out with cartomizers, but there are much better options. Cartos by themselves can be very touchy; they either get too soggy or too dry. However, typically a regular sized cartridge holds around 1 ml of e-liquid.

Pre-filled cartos give you a very limited choice of flavors. There are a tremendous number of delicious flavors out there that you can only get as e-liquid!

Also, I believe the volt is an "Automatic", and while these are a good starter for some, (more like a cigarette) almost everybody likes manual batts much better. Gives you much more control! So, in simplest terms, yes, there is a big advantage to moving up the curve (and you can do it without spending a whole lot more money, although many here spend lots and consider it a hobby!)

As to Question 4, that is up to you. If your e-cigarette satisfies you, that is great! If you decide that "they don't work" then you should have tried some of the better stuff. No guarantees in either case, though!

Edit: Try to find a B&M near you (storefront) and check them out! If you find a good one, that is invaluable! Holding this stuff in your hands, (and if they have a tasting bar, TREMENDOUS!)

welcome & congrats! Take a deep breathe, relax. There's a lot to learn but you can do it. I've heard good things about the Volt. It may be all you ever need or want. Or, as you learn more, you may decide you want to upgrade. You don't have to and some people never do. Everyone has to find what works for them. It's like juices, some people like certain flavors and others can't stand them. To each his own.

Definitely read the link to the ECF library. That gives good information to help you understand the basics. It's easier after that.

You will need some cartridges and you can search for videos on how to clean them too. They don't last forever and you'll find your taste buds will tell you when its time to replace them.

How long 10mg of liquid lasts depends on how much you vape. For some, that would only last 4-5days! I'd suggest you try getting some samples of different juices to find what you like. Some vendors offer small samples to try so you don't end up with 10mg bottles of stuff you don't like. What's also important is the nicotine level. How much did you smoke? That can help determine what nicotine level you should start trying. I smoked a pack a day and started at 18mg. I found that to be too much on a regular basis, but for those times when the cravings might hit (first thing in the morning or after a couple of glasses of wine), the 18mg keeps me from wanting a cigarette. Otherwise, I stay with 12mg.

You can do this! You've made the biggest, most important step. Happy vaping!

I am basically homebound, so no store visits for me..but I can get twice as much from the 10 ml as the cartridges, which is good to know.

I do have a manual (I learned the difference) and push a button...I have an automatic in my cart..but now will probably change it to the manual..thanks for that advice.

The beginner kit included several flavors and I thought it was all about tobacco flavor till I puffed the first cartridge and wondered what that sweet taste was, then read the cartridge and noticed it said grape??? Next one was Ice Menthol..and wow, I could inhale that one.

Sig Other is mad that I wasted $150.00 on my last order of cigs..but glad I stopped, he can smoke a pack a month, or none at all, and wonders why I can't just quit..

I have never seen a forum that was so helpful and willing to just GIVE AWAY all they have learned over the months/years..so glad I found this place.

I was smoking one after the other, and was sad when the cigarette I was smoking came to its end...then a few seconds latter another. I kept threatening to move the pack to an inconvenient location to make myself get up to get a cig so as to be aware of how many I was smoking, but never did that..

My first order was 24mg but I was choking on that (just getting over bronchitis) so I ordered 18mg, but I found I can inhale the menthol, so I might have to go back up but do the menthol?

I am loving vaping now that I discovered the menthol, but I am sure once my lungs feel better I will try different flavors.

The inhalation thing will come with time...how often do you heavily breath warmed vapor on regular basis? Remember the coughing fits when you first started smoking?

The trick is to learn the technique for proper vaping, it helps the longevity of your coils by not stressing them like you would with long hard drags from an analog. Like riding a bike...once you learn it, you are good to go from then on out ;)

"WH" is member "WarHawk-AVG"... and I don't like to call him AVG, 'cause he's a bit better than average.
If someone has a long, complicated user name, and/or you've had conversations before and "know" them... cut the name down. Me... most call me State or Flux 'cause the O' part requires extra finger dexterity.

hehe....not AVG as in average AVG as in Advanced (or American) Volunteer Group
Warhawk-AVG = Flying Tigers ;)

And yeah...we abbreviate sometimes State O' Flux = Flux, not a poke but a sign of respect

When I first decided to try e-cigs, I thought I'd want a tobacco flavor. That went out the window when I got some samples of that included fruits and deserts. I have some samples of tobacco flavors that I got initially, but I've never tried them. I was told they needed to steep for a few weeks (that's really just aging the juice in a cool, dark place). I'm liking the other flavors so much I haven't gotten around to them!

I had a cold and really liked vaping some menthol too! You may want 24mg for awhile to keep the cravings away. If you find a flavor you like, you can also get some in 18mg and see how you do. If it's not enough, you could mix them and get a blend at 21mg for something in between. The most important thing is finding the level that works for you. I hope you feel better soon!

Hi, welcome to vaping and ECF.

How many cartridges can 10ml fill?
I just guessing, but I don't think they would hold over 1ml. probably more like 1/2 ml
Have to be careful about overfilling. Excess can run out and destroy an automatic battery

7.95 for 10ml of the juice vs 8.95 for 5 cartridges?
That's kinda high. Shop around. Best E Cigarette | Buy Electronic Cigarettes | E Cig Juice - MT Baker Vapor seems to be recommended frequently. I just checked and it's $5 for 15ml

What is all the electrical stuff about ecigs?
Not sure what you mean.
VV (variable voltage) batteries give you some adjustment on the heat
Ohms do a similar thing. lower ohms are generally hotter.

Do MOST (if not all) people graduate to the fancy stuff? (I say fancy cause I still have a lot to learn)..and is the Volt stuff more or less expensive than the other stuff?
Well. the ones seen here do, because they come looking for answers. I'm sure there's lots that quit on a cig-a-like. I couldn't. I got bigger stuff for mainly 2 reasons. Longer lasting battery and easily refillable tanks.(cheaper consumables)

Will the better (more sophisticated stuff) better ensure I will not restart smoking?
I cut smoking in half with a cig-a-like. I couldn't quit until I got a Variable Voltage (VV) battery and a tank. That's just me though, it's different for everyone. More vapor with bigger stuff

If you do want bigger stuff, shop around, you'd probably have the best luck starting with forum suppliers (at the top of the page). Myfreedomsmokes or discountvapors seem to be good places

Here's some of the most common, basic items (batteries and tanks). I used altsmoke because you're familiar with them.

BATTERIES:
Authentic Joye eGo or eGo-T 650mAh Battery - AltSmoke this is the basic ego 650mAh battery. Small but no adjustment (650 mAh means about 6 -1/2 hours vaping)
eGo Spinner Variable Voltage Battery - AltSmoke this one has an adjustment and comes in 3 different mAh

If you like them, you can always add a second battery later.
You'd also need an ego charger and wall adapter (definitely cheaper elsewhere)

TANKS:
Vision Clearomizer - AltSmoke - AltSmoke most people on a budget start with this one. works fine but not so sturdy
eVod Clearomizer - Changeable Bottom Coil Clearomizer - AltSmoke seems to one of the most recommended. I've never tried it
http://altsmoke.com/vision-vivi-replacement-coil-tank-kit.html My favorite. I quit smoking on the 2ml one and still use it. Cheap to operate because its durable and easily cleaned. I recommend this exact one from altsmoke. There's lots of versions of it, but I know this one's good.

Hope vaping is as good to you as it was to me. (tried quitting for a decade).

I started with a cigarette sized ecig similar to the volt. I loved it, but I had a lot of trouble quitting cigs. It just didn't completely satisfy me and I figured if I was smoking half as much that was at least better.

Then I tried an ego and I found out that's what I needed the whole time. It was easy for me to quit after I got the ego.

As far as upgrading, it's been 2 years since I started vaping and I still use the ego. It does what I need and I don't feel that I need to try anything else. I have, however, upgraded to variable voltage batteries. I enjoy trying different tanks and clearomizers, so most of the money I spend is for those and lots of different ejuices.

Good luck and welcome.

angstless, ask and you shall receive, most here will pass along what they have found, discovered, or stumbled onto in their own personal "vape ride". Many have found that the "fancy stuff" allows a personal fine tuning to their day to day vape. Everyone here has started in the "I have a lot to learn" group, and have progressed on to into the "multi-verse" of vaping.
The Volt appears to be a cig-a-like, and is going to be a bit more $$$ than the eGo type set up...IMHO, beeen there done that.

4th Question: Will the better (more sophisticated stuff) better ensure I will not restart smoking?
Even the basic eGo 650 battery, tank set up will produce a better scenario for the disposal of the analogs....IMHO

Most everyone comes to the ECF neighborhood after viewing many videos, and spinning of their head, does not mean the learning curve is quicker than their are, just that there is much.......to learn, even for those that have been at it for a while.
