If i am going to a single coil on the Igo W should I block one of the airholes? or is that not really necesary? I am gonna wrap up a coil right now

While not entirely necessary, you will likely want your coil in front of a single air intake to maximize flavor and keep the coil from overheating. You should also check out some building tutorials on Youtube. It will make things much simpler after watching others.

I mean I used to wrap on a tiny rda on my bagua so this is way easier. I already have the coil wrapped and ready to screw it in. My primary concern is since the IgoW is meant to accept two coils and there are two outside posts..is it ok to leave one outside post empty?

Hey guys. I have been vaping for a long time and jus recently was able to actually quit smoking analogs and just vape.

I started out on cigalikes, moved onto an ego, got a vv ego style, then went up to a bagua 14500 mod and now I have a k101 mod with an igoW that I think is around .3 ohms(My b&M built it for me)

Now, I am finally off cigs and dont ever want to buy any ever again..the thing though...I have turned into a huge chain vaper. I am puffing all day. Always wanting to vape. But I am burning through juice like crazy. I remember the days of using a clearomizer on the ego and filling the tank and it lasted me all day. Now I am questioning my choice of a mech mod.

When using a mechanical mod you really need to have a DMM and use it. If you don't you will not know what resistance the atty is nor will you know your battery voltage when you swap them out for a charge or when you take them off the charger. All these are safety issues first and performance issues second.

At 0.3 ohms, after voltage drop, you're probably at around 45 watts on a 4.2V battery and that will of course go down as the voltage drops. Yes, that will kick out a lot of vapor, flavor and TH and it does it by vaporizing a lot of juice really quickly. There is no way around that.

If it's flavor and TH you're after more than vapor you could try a Kayfun type atty and see how that works for you. They are power limited, but still excel in flavor and TH and I suspect would help reduce juice use.

OTOH, you could also try to reduce the amount of chain vaping you do. You could increase the nic level of your juice, that helps some people vape less. Or you could simply make an effort to reduce the amount you vape. Put the PV away for a while and take vape breaks. Vape for 5 minutes every 15 minutes. You get the idea. Small steps can add up over time.

Should I go back to the ego? I find myself not charging my batteries and using them when they're low so I can vape with the voltage drop that comes with almost discharged batteries. What is a vaper to do?

Thanks for all your guys input. I am at the point now where I want as much flavor as possible and decent throat hit. I guess you could say I have outgrown the cloudchasing and now want to enjoy my vape more and make my juice last longer.

IMO going back to an eGo at this point would be extreme. Don't vape discharged batteries. You didn't say how low in voltage you take them. If they get too low in voltage they can suffer internal damage and become prone to internal shorts which are the worst type of shorts a battery can have. It's not so bad IMO to occasionally run a battery down too far, but doing it often is not safe.

Besides, doing that is just reducing the power of your vape. You can do the same thing by building higher resistance coils. I try to never let my batteries go below 3.6V.

Like I said if you want flavor and TH Kayfun type attys are great. You can get them in dual and I believe triple coil devices too. Or just try a 0.5 or 0.7 ohm build on the IGO-W. Higher resistance equals less power which equals less juice used. Reduce your chain vaping a bit too and you might find a happy middle ground that will keep you off cigarettes, is safe and you enjoy it.

Good luck with it :thumb:

well I have no meter so I cant say the voltage of the batteries.

I did just remove the dual coil sub ohm setup and did 7 wraps of 28 g kanthal on a small jewelers screwdriver. I will try it with a full battery and see how it performs. It is definitely a cooler vape. I may try with the 30 tomorrow and see what happens. As soon as I can afford it I am going to get a meter and start making my own juice for sure.

Ok so I understand the premise of safety and usage of the multimeter. I assume though, that I can get relatively close with good wrapping and that if we are talking about relatively close and in the range of 1.3-1.7 that safety would be ensured. It is not like I would be trying to wrap a .3 coil and mistakenly wrap a .1. Does that make sense or do I just sound ill informed?

right now I am on 12% nic level mountain gal and I havent had an analog in three weeks! I am really proud of myself. If I have to I can always go back to 18 or 24 from AVE Juice. I just love me some Bobas

Anything over 0,7-0,8 ohms is definitely safe. to a 10 amp battery or more.

It would be hard to go from .3 to .1 ohms by mistake since we're talking about a 70% difference. Just be aware that meters will all read a little different and also round up or down the numbers they can't display.

I personally use 28gauge Kanthal and 5 wraps on a drill bit for which I'd have to dig up the holder to give you the diameter (it's late and I'm off to bed after this) but I get and average 1.4 to 1.6 ohms. Wicking is also an art.

The 2 most important rules:
1- Stay safe
2- Use whatever works for you.
3- You're the master of your destiny (I know, I said 2, but I was thinking of those glasses cleaning stations in manufactures with the mirror under which you can read "this is the person in charge of your safety"... off to bed now!)

There is a balance to achieve between ohms and gauge.
If your taste is best at 0.3-0.5 ohm at 3-4 volts, then a thinner gauge at 1.3-1.7 would give you the same temperature at lower power; lower power wont burn up as much juice.

that sounds really interesting. I would most definitely be interested in learning how to do that. The trick is that I am sort of a flavor snob. I will not have any fruity flavors, they make me ill. I am always hunting for a good tobacco flavor but can never find one. The only flavors I have found that I actually enjoy are AVE flavors and one from my local shop called Last Emperor.

What sort of flavors do you make? PayPal to send me some to try your recipe?

I wouldn't take your money it's so easy. But I'd tell you how to do it. My method is probably an abomination to most DIY'ers. I am careful not to spill, but im not in a hazmat suit with goggles in an airtight sterile room, lol. Okay thats an exaggeration of what they suggest but you get the drift. For example, if I were to make a 100ml bottle of unflavored, plain juice, and I vape at 10mgs/ml,so I use 10ml of my 100mg/ml nic, and I use 2/3 PG and 1/3, so I use 60ml PG and 30ml VG. I fill up a 30ml about 90% to the top, which if you do the math is about 27 ml. I like a lighter flavor, you could add as much as 20% flavor, which would be double of what I'm gonna tell you right now. Next I add a big splash (about 2.5ml) of RY4 (a carmelly vanilla-y tobacco flavor), and a tiny splash (about .5 ml) of cinnamon danish, shake it up and put it in my ecig. Some people say steep to let the flavors mature, I'm lazy. I get my stuff from RTSvapes.com. I love them. Go buy yourself enough to make about 100 ml or so of plain, buy some little sample size bottles, buy a few flavor concentrates, a graduated cylinder and a funnel, and have yourself a little chemistry experiment. If you go on their site, in their menu there is an ejuice DIY training center. It leads you right back to this forum, lol. DIY E-Liquid. It's the exact same place I learned everything I know about DIY.
With the impending FDA regulations, some people are worried premade juice sold by the independent ecig retailers might be something that goes, or will be increase drastically in price. The DIY supplies might suffer the same fate. I just bought 1000 mls of 100mg/ml nicotine and a crapload of PG & VG, for that very reason. I'll need to buy more VG and PG, but that is used for so many other things I don't think they can do anything about the sale of it, but right now I have enough nicotine to make enough juice to make myself 10,000mls of juice. Yes, thats TEN THOUSAND, lol. I got it on sale half off at RTS for 49.00. The price of about 3 bottles of premade juice. I've got most of the nic concentrate in the freezer. So it might behoove you to learn to make your own for more than one reason. Plus, it's fun. I am boring and lazy and only use one flavor, but I have a mini lab of multiple flavors, graduated cylinders, etc. I get a bug up my .... and make myself a new flavor for a change once in a while. It's nice to have.
If you have ANY questions, you can contact me personally, or any one of the beautiful wonderful people on this site the DIY would help you too.

No multimeter, lack of understanding about over-discharging batteries, etc.

Brian, why not just buy some pre built atomizers over the counter from Cisco. If you are a flavor junkie you may be happy with a bottom feeder + a nice HH357 or 306 atty. :) IMHO you may not be *ready and prepared* to wrap coils etc. on a mechanical at this point in your vaping career.

The atties I mentioned are consumables, yes, but you will learn a little something about what kind of vape you like. JMHO

Just so you know there are plenty of advanced long time vapers who do not build coils and use RDAs for different reasons, sometimes ignoring the tried and true for the latest greatest is NOT the best route for a newbie to take!

Oh my.. where to start.... I know I am coming in late on the subject, but as far as chain vaping goes, it is fairly safe to vape, but there is a whole lot of variables to consider.

First, where do you get your juice... is it fresh? what is it's nicotine content. If it is pre-mixed.. how old is it. Nicotine has a finite lifespan, and will get weaker over time. This can be accelerated by factors such as heat, light, evaporation, etc. As an example, I walked into a convienence store near me, and they had a huge e-juice line. They had probably 100 or so flavors, all ready to buy at $5.00 each. Even though it sounded like a good deal, I noticed that it was being kept by the window for the sun to beat down on it all day. When I asked to see the bottle and they handed one to me, the bottle was warm and it was a clear bottle at that. I would imagine that the whole rack was useless just because of how it was packaged, and how it was stored... there was no date sticker on them, so who knows when they were made.

Second, as far as the hardware itself, I personally like to vape single coil. Unless you're really cloud chasing, you can vary the single coil to the vape you like. If single coil is not in itself good enough, then I'd check the Nic content of the juice. If the nic content is good, perhaps you just are a cloud chaser... In that case, I'd suggest lowering the nicotine and continue to cloud chase on... and have fun with it.

As far as battery drainage, in a mech mod... a higher ohm coil should draw less power from your battery, however, a higher ohm coil doesn't get as hot. A lower ohm coil gets hotter. Combine that with surface to wick area and you get the vapor production. You could look into getting one of the regulated mods. They've just recently released a bunch of 50w mods.. that will force more power into a higher ohm coil, thus you have more surface area.

And I ALWAYS coil with an ohm meter. No matter how good your coiling skills are, and if you followed the coiling guides exactly, there could always be problems... especially with an unregulated mod. Perhaps an insulator wore down some and is causing a short, perhaps the center pin isn't centered.. there are many things that can go wrong.... I would invest in a meter if you do any RBAs.

Sure, some people successfully use less than 0.3 ohm coils daily. Know what to do, how to recognize the signs and be prepared to react FAST in case of a battery fail. I don't mean to scare you, but being aware is being one step closer to being prepared.

I never vape below 0.7 so I'm probably not going to have these issues, but ... I would humbly ask where one could find a short but concise explanation of "Know(ing) what to do"? It would always be wise to know that.

I'm not so much of a "glass half empty" guy, as I am a "there is no glass" type of guy.

What to do? Well, you first need to know what can happen.

Possible reactions are (in order) : heat, venting, flame, outburst. A lot of people have tried shorting the newer generation of LiIon batteries and mostly got heat only. This does not mean the rest cannot happen and it has in some cases.

In a sealed tube, a shorted battery can act as a pipe bomb. Since all mods I've seen to date have vent holes, it is not likely to happen, but I still would not take a chance. Drop it behind a desk, in a metal container, whatever is at hand (BUT... see next line) and hide behind a heavy object or get out FAST.

Older batteries actually caught fire. Battery vent holes seem to help prevent that a great deal, but you never know, so try to throw it near or into the least flammable material or place around.

When a lithium battery catches fire, the fumes are highly toxic. Get the hell out and wait for the fumes to dissipate.

Know that you might only have seconds to react, so act fast. How do you know catastrophy is at hand? 1- Extreme heat 2-A popping sound meand the battery is venting and could release hot material in a burst. 3-If it really goes wrong, then a sealed mod could blow the weakest attachment out like a cannon or the battery could plain catch fire. Again, this is not very likely anymore, but not impossible at all. Most of this happens extremely infrequently, but has happened in a few cases. Any disguised cheapo battery could surprise you, so I'm usually more prudent with recently purchased batteries.

First determine why you are chain vaping. Is it the nicotine that you are finding you need or simply because you like the flavor so much. Once you determine that it's a simple solution of either raising the nicotine level in the liquids you use or finding a less desirable flavor (but one you still enjoy) to vape on. At least that would work for me.

I only recently started to experiment with cinnamon flavors and have found now that it's my favorite flavor. And indeed I vape substantially more of the cinnamon liquid than I've ever vaped of the other liquids in the past.
