...and the lady receptionist recommended that I buy a Roughstack. I was wondering since this is my first e-cig would buying a mod as my first be overdoing it a little? should i go ahead and buy a 510 or go all out on a roughstack kit? I've heard nothing but great things about it but since I'm starting out should i stick with the 510?

hehe idk...Im just sort of asking for user experience on the thing. like does anyone here use one? what do they and dont they like about the thing? I've mostly just heard rumors about of over the webs (good rumors though) but nothing concrete. I just need to know a couple things: I work a 9 hour a day job, im guessing this would probably last me through that given the size of the battery. I also like the rough, industrial design. Nothin feminine about this peice . I also like the fact that, unlike a 510, it has a stationary body that will pretty much last forever, instead of having to replace both the battery and the atty or carto every few months.

But mainly im just asking if anyone has used it. What was your experience with it if you have

It's a great mod- only drawback for you is the learning curve. Starting out you might want to try a box mod from them as it runs cheaper and you'll need a charger anyways. I think starting out at a high voltage might be a little too much at first IMO. You have to feel it out for yourself though and the investment isn't a totally bad idea as after you progress you'll want one anyway. Just keep in mind that if you have trouble with it at first and either get overwhelmed or discouraged you might want to scale back.

I never used the roughstack. Have heard you can buy parts for it. Do a google search on reviews and see what you come up with. Go on facebook and they have cig forums you can join...I know someone just bought one and they are a newbie and loved it.

If I had a choice and knew better I would have purchased a BB or an SB from altsmoke or the roughstack as a first e-cig. I didn't like the ego that much. Certainly a 510 would have never been rewarding for me.

The roughstack seems like a reasonable mod at that pricetag. However, I could never recomend a mod due to it is a personal choice. 3.7 volt vaping is the best.

If you did settle for an ego or equiv I would suggest at least getting one that is true 3.7 volts...
Right now I am vaping with a vari voltage Buzz.

I've got an Indulgence, which is similar. Performs great, practically indestructible, kinda clunky.

If you start with it, where will you go from there? It's like she was saying, "yeah... but this one goes to ELEVEN..."

I have one and I love it. I did start with a 510, which just was not cutting it. I wish I had not wasted the money on the 510 kit, but I did learn how to use it first. The rough stack is much better in the long run. You can charge the batteries separately, if your 510 needs charged and you don't have an extra you have to wait until it charges. Also, the rough stack could last forever, even if the switch ever gives out you can replace it very easily as madvapes sells the switch replacement.

If you get it, be sure to get a few batteries and a charger, a couple of cartomizers or atomizers (and a drip tip). Oops, looks like the kit will get you started with atomizers, two batteries, charger and a small bottle of juice. You'll be set for a bit, just add extra juice.

Later on you can get extra batteries and cartos or atomizers. (I would get some now, but don't know if you can swing that too.)

If you don't mind something the size of a Roughstack, that looks like a Roughstack, then forget about getting the 510.

That doesn't mean you should get a Roughstack, nor does it mean you should not get a Roughstack.
It just means that if you are prepared to go bigger, then by all means do so.

The little electronic cigarettes are only for people who need them to be little.

I started with an 808, then Riva 808. Now Prodigy V3 and Buzz. I agree, skip the mini's. I wish I had started with the V3. Roughstack is similar.

I've had the roughstack and it's a great simple rugged workhorse of a mod. I'd advise it for anyone first e-cig as long as they knew it wasn't going to look like the smaller proprietary battery ecigs. Although it is bigger than those it's small for a mod and the user replaceable switch is a great touch if one should ever need replacing. Because it's not a sharp looker from the get go one won't worry about dinging it up in daily use and if someone wanted to make it look better it's easily painted. Performance wise there is no comparison with either battery configuration.

I have a mini vapestack, which is the same concept, only a little smaller. As others have said, it's a great little mod, well made and simple. About the only thing that would keep me from recommending it for a first mod would be the lack of a low battery indicator. Typical electronic cigarettes are all going to have an LED that lights up when you vape and flashes when the battery is getting low. Of course, when the battery gets low on a mod like the Roughstack, your vapor will drop off. For a beginner that could be frustrating at first, not knowing if it's the battery, atomizer, or too much/too little juice that's causing the problem. You'll get the hang of it quickly, though.

I've got a Maxi Roughstack and it's a good big batt mod. You do need to be careful about getting juice into the switch. Mine has a tiny little hole right between the switch and the connector and juice gets inside. If you decide to buy one get a spare switch unit at the same time. The other thing about the Roughstack is that I've got some high drain Ultrafire 2600 mah 18650's for my Silver Bullet, but they won't fit in the Roughstack. The Ultrafire 3000 mah 18650's that Madvapes sells fit, but they're low drain and it makes a difference. The high drain's give a better hit because they can discharge more rapidly. The fit and finish of the Maxi Roughstack is pretty crude. When the top section is screwed on it doesn't quite line up to the tube so it's sticking out a little on one side. Functionally it doesn't matter, but it's just not quite right.

On the plus side for the Roughstack is the cost. At $55 you can't beat it. I also like the top mounted button because it's more natural for me than the side mounted button on the Silver Bullet.

If you do decide on a Roughstack or other mod make sure you research atomizer resistance so you don't end up with something that doesn't work right. I've seen a few NuBies start out with mods and have nothing but trouble because they didn't know how to match components to get good results.

I use 1.7 to 2.0 ohm atty's and drip which gives me a good hit. When I use 1.5 ohm atty's it burns some juices and tastes nasty. If I use 2.5 ohm or higher atty's it doesn't hit hard enough for me. This is all assuming 3.7 volts, but my batteries start out at 4.18v fresh off the charger.

I agree with this statement. I wish that I would have been smart enough to start with a mod when I was new. Spending the $ on the smaller ones was a waste IMO.

I have to suggest a good mini. Right now I have mostly bloog maxx fusion and seriously doubt I'll ever pick up a mod. I do have one of the new 808's from nhaler, and it is just as good, but don't think he has them in stock at the moment short of buying his PCC kit. Honestly, I find it hard to believe that anyone who recommends a mod has tried one of the new tech 808's, or they spend their life at a desk. There have been a good number of mod crazy reviewers who are trying the new 808's and loving them.

Size, weight, convenience, familiarity, doesn't look like something illegal, doesn't look like what the hell is that thing, flawless automatic functioning, plenty of vapor and TH. Really, the absolute only benefit I can see in any mod would be one with variable voltage to dial into a particular juice.

Over the years I tried 510's, old tech 808's, blu, a couple of mods. As a smoker I just thought they were cute but had no chance of replacing my decades long love affair with tobacco. But the bloog is what made me feel sorry for my friends trying to quit smoking with gums, patches, willpower, or lesser models.

If you WANT a box for some reason, go right ahead. But I can't imagine what benefit anything bigger than a bloog offers. Get a PCC and battery life is just not an issue....

Specifically why? I've never lived with one so I really don't know. But a few casual puffs, reading reviews and looking at websites, I can see no benefit over current 808d-1 tech like bloog or nhaler's new batteries and a PCC. Has anyone who has posted in this thread tried either of these new models?
