I am on pins and needles waiting for my new Prodigy and two USB passthroughs. I am down to my last working Trog Screwdriver and hoping against all hope that my new Puresmoker accoutrements arrive before this thing goes down.
I thought I would tell you all about my esmoking journey over the last six months purely for the cathartic effect it has for me as I wait .and wait and wait! It may also be helpful for those of you considering which brand or ecig to go with. To save you all the time in reading my post Ill tell you at this point that Puresmoker is the gold standard .trust me it is.
I was a 28 year analog smoker. Though I was very sorry that I ever started, the fact is that I love smoking. I really really do. I dont know if is the nicotine, or the throat hit or the smoke itself but I really love smoking. That fact alone made it impossible to quit, even though as I got older, I continued to become increasingly concerned about the long term effects on my health.
I am divorced, but about three years ago, I met and fell deeply in love with a wonderful woman who is passionately anti-smoking. That along with the fact that my two children (now 14 and 16) were constantly nagging me put me on the search for a smoking alternative.
For most of the last three years, up until about six months ago, I was smoking Eclipse Cigarettes. For those not familiar, that was a tobacco product that basically heated rather than burned the tobacco. They tasted awful but I became accustomed to them enough that I was able to get off regular cigs. The Eclipse was probably marginally better health wise than a normal cigarette since they were not burning tobacco but there was still a rather unpleasant odor .and they still cost the same as regular cigarettes. Last December, while searching for a cheaper online source for Eclipse Cigs .I came upon the Smoke 51 website. It seemed like a great idea and with little research I ordered a Smoke 51.
I must say that I took to it immediately I knew from the first drag that esmoking was going to be my ticket off of analogs .though smoke 51 ended up being a disappointment to me. In a nutshell the battery life sucked, the cartridges were too expensive and hard to find, and they didnt last nearly as long as was advertised. So .I wrote off my investment in Smoke 51 (about $300) and set about looking for a new ecig provider.
It wasnt long before I came upon Puresmoker. I ordered a penstyle and passthorugh and basically told every smoker I knew about this new and exciting product. I think Steve must have increased his client base significantly just based on my email list. I still had battery issues with the pen but the pass through was a God send. Like many of you, I was frustrated with the lack of quality of the components but was happy to be off analogs and just considered the ongoing purchases of passthroughs and atomizers .which were both basically disposable as a cost of doing business.
In an attempt to obtain longer battery life, I eventually purchased a total of two Trog Screwdrivers. Initially I was pleased with the increased batter life (though I much preferred the 801 Atomizer) but I have identified several issues with the Screwdriver that I think are crying out for a redesign. Firstly .the bottom buttons are very fragile. In less than five months I have managed to break off three of them, making it difficult to continue to use them. Also the position of the button on the bottom makes it very easy to inadvertently actuate the button when the SD is in a pocket. Last night somehow .something went sideways in one of my SDs and now when I push the button the body heats up but the atomizer doesnt. I have no idea what happened .but I anticipate scrapping my two (only one of which is still functioning) SDs when I receive my new Prodigy. The represent an expense of about $350. Ted will fix them if I send them back but the combination of shipping costs and exchange rates make that a financially undesirable option.
I am very excited about the new Prodigy and pass throughs. I am thrilled beyond belief that Steve has put so much effort into developing (what I believe will be) a high quality, durable, reliable esmoking system. I just hope my half broken SD will hold out long enough for me to survive without having to cheat with analogs. Ive no doubt Puresmoker is the one to beat!
Thanks Steve for all that you have done!
