I'm new so maybe it doesn't matter much yet but... I have a Joye 510 and all the juice I have ordered so far is 50/50 because I don't understand the ratio thing. Am I getting the right stuff? Also, vaping gives me a headache usually, I was smoking menthol light analogs and I bought 18 mg juice. Is it possible the juice is too strong and thats why I get headaches?

Thanks!

Hello and welcome!!!

PG = more throat hit, more flavor
VG = more vapor

Some people have allergies to PG, so they use 100% VG juice. I like a 50/50 mix most times to balance TH and vapor. You can get headaches from higher levels of nicotine, you may have to mess around until you find the level that suits you best!

Hope this helps!!! :D

The nic could be a possiblity for the headaches, but if you haven't really started detox yet, the 18 mg could be just right for you over the next couple of weeks. The vg helps promote vapor. I personally started with the same set up you have, juice and all, but upped the vg to help me keep from pulling so hard. For ME, that was the cause of the headaches . . . I was working too hard trying to find the same "smoking" experience. It's my understanding that although vg increases vapor, it can reduce flavor. I didn't find that to be the case, but I can't dispute it either. The vapor was more important for ME. As I played around with juices I found the biggest indication that I was getting too much nic was quiziness, not headache, but everyone reacts to change differently I'm sure.

There are many threads that talk about the pg/vg ratios, nic strength, detox symptoms, etc., so as I recommend to all . . . read, read, read.

Congratulations on making the switch and WELCOME!!

To me the ratio applies more when concocting your own juice.

VG definitely produces more vapor than PG. That's their main difference, AFAIC. In terms of things like side effects I sensed no perceptible difference. I experienced some symptoms when I was just starting and I can't pinpoint which caused it. It's nothing serious that would prompt me to see a physician. It may be the after effects of quitting smokes, the body trying to adapt itself with vapors coming in and out of the mouth, lesions on the lips, etc. After a month or so all of that is gone. I mean completely gone. When it comes to nic strength that's totally an individual thing. 36mg nic, for instance, is probably smoking two sticks of cigarettes at once for me.

So I prefer ordering 100% VG in my juices if only for the fact that it produces more vapor than PG. Which means you don't have to put too much effort in producing vapors. Of course, VG by itself is thicker than PG. But I never actually seen a juice with 100% VG rating as thick as VG by itself. It's already made thin by the additional flavoring and possibly distilled water.

vaping is the wave of the future. smoking is kind of antiquated. I can see analog cigarettes making a big come back in 2070, but then it will be back to antiquity in no time. You'll never be able to completely eradicate tobacco... The clergy tried to ban them in the 1600's, and ever since then tobacco has been demonized. Vaping, a freemarket solution, is the only thing that can compete with traditional tobacco. :2cool:

I agree . . . I've ordered plain vg and it doesn't "drip". It takes a hard squeeze to get one bead from the bottle. My 100% vg flavors are not anywhere near as thick. I've had no issues with my cartos, they're lasting well over a week except for one dud out of about a dozen. My personal preference is to see and feel the vapor, so although I don't use 100% vg juice, I do use a relatively high ratio of about 30/70.

If the ratio is just about flavor and throat hit then why do some sites say things about the voltage of the device. Btw, what voltage is my device? I took it outta the box and started sucking, I never made any changes to it and it doesn't say on the box.

Current (Think Heat or Power) = Voltage / Resistance (Ohms)

On most devices the Voltage is fixed. Joye 510 it's 3.4v. So the only way to increase the Current\Heat is to change the Resistance (the atomizer).

3.4v/3ohm Atomizer = 1.13 Amps (Warm)
3.4v/2ohm Atomizer = 1.70 Amps (Warmer)
3.4v/1.5ohm Atomizer = 2.27 Amps (Warmest)
etc.
etc.

Different levels of Amps\Heat can vary the Taste and Throat-Hits of eliquids. Initially, I wouldn't worry too much about this. But when people get serious about this they buy Variable-Voltage PVs (Personal Vapers) so they can fine tune the taste\TH by tweaking the amount of current going through the atomizer\cartomizer.

This may seem complex but it's really not. It's not unlike a dimmer switch connected to a light bulb. By turning the dimmer you are adding (or subtracting) Resistance to the light causing less (or more) Amps... Dimming (or brightening) the light.

Plus the more Amps\Heat you draw from batteries the quicker they run out of charge. Some batteries handle this better than others.

Again, don't worry about this too much at first. To start, If you want to experiment you can easily buy different atomizers\cartomizers with varying Ohm ratings.

Vaping is quite different that smoking you don't get all the same sensations that would cause you to not have another cigarette. It is possible that you are vaping more than you would have smoked, hence the headaches.
