ok so i'm showing the hubz what i want today so we can go over cost and decide 100% whether i'm gonna do this or not (i really really want to, but he handles finances so he has veto power)

and i'm still confused about cartomizer, atomizers, and cartridges
is it a carto OR cartridge, or both with an atomizer, or an atomizer or a cartridge, or all 3?? lol!!

just tell what configuration of stuff you have.
i was thinking the KR808, but now i'm leaning more toward the riva 510... so what do i need for a riva??????? and how much would i need to get of everything if i was looking to buy lets, a couple months worth of stuff, i smoke probably a pack a day????

i'm sure i must sound stupid, please forgive i have an infant and am SERIOUSLY sleep deprived, so while i'm really trying to get all of this i just need a little more explaining!! lol!!

hello,a cartomizer is a good choice.it has polyfill and they fill pretty easy.a atomizer is just the coil which atomizes the fluid.a 510 is a good kit as long as its a original joye 510.kr808 is a good kit also.make sure you get a few 30ml bottles of juice! good luck, its alot of learning but at least you missed the folded tea bag mod yrs ago:laugh:.

No need to feel stupid. You have a baby so you are very busy, tired probably and a bit distracted.
I'd go with cartomizers if I were you. You can fill up several when the baby is asleep. + a Kr808 would be less stuff to fiddle with.
Get at least 3 batteries. When I take mine to work I always take at least 2. The batteries last at least 4 hours that way.
I believe the Riva has a longer battery life but don't quote me on that.
Good luck.

Other Places
Cartomizer - eveything you need rolled into one. They are cheap and disposable but can be refilled and cleaned. Just use until it dies. Boge standard resistance is the best IMO.

Kr's are nice units but you get more variety with a 510. I would skip the little batteries and either get a riva or an ego. Cheapest place is liberty-flights.com. They also carry the cartomizers.

My suggestions to buy are these:
Get yourself a riva kit 510
510 Boge cartomizers - LF is out right now but most vendors carry them. Do a google search for Boge cartomizers.
2 spare atomizers
1 pack of cartridges
drip tip 510/901 - you may find that you like dripping.
Different variety of juice in 18-24mgs. You can always adjust your level. Flavor will be the hardest and biggest expense. I would suggest freedomsmokeusa.com. They have 3ml samplers that you can purchase. All are 50/50 24mg and ready to vape. Please choose a juice vendor that has sample bottles to order. You won't like everything you buy.

Discount code for liberty-flights is october20 or ecf ...enter it at checkout to get 20 percent off. They are out of Boge right now but cloudsofvapor has them

Stay away from auto batteries since you're new. Auto's are very touchy and can be easily ruined if juice gets down the center hole in the battery. Please get manuals.

If this takes off for you, you may want to invest in a cheap electronic ultra sonic jewelry cleaner. It doesn't need to be an expensive one. I bought one of mine from harbor freight for $25. Also, buy a bottle of alcohol from the store for keeping your stuff clean and sterile.

Congradulations on the little one.

I remember those days of no sleep. I feel for you but enjoy it while he/she is little...time flys.

Welcome to the forum raz!
Atomizer= The part that attaches to the battery in a 3 piece unit. It vaporizes the e-liquid
Cartridge= The part you put in your mouth that holds the e-liquid. If you buy a box of cartridges, you usually get 5 per box and they are usually pre-filled with High, Medium or Low mg tobacco flavored juice. Stuffing can be removed and replaced with stuffing/filler of your choice. I like blue foam. These are infinitely refillable.
Cartomizer= A combination atomizer/cartridge in one device, attaches to the battery in a 2 piece unit. Designed as disposable, cheaper than atomizers but don't last as long. Can be refilled several times before the atomizer inside dies, but not as easily as a cartridge.
I would think about 90 mls worth of juice would last you atleast a couple of months. But I would order several smaller bottles of different flavors to total that amount. If you splurge on a couple of 30ml size bottles and don't like the flavor then you are stuck with it. The Riva is a great e-cig. The kit comes with 2 batteries and 2 atomizers and cartridges so all you would need would be the juice to refill with. After a month or so you can stock up on some extra batts and attys. Good luck!

2 piece ecig - battery + cartomizer aka carto
3 piece ecig - battery + atomizer + cartridge aka cart

Riva is a 3-piece (cone does not count) but plenty of blank cartos available

KR8 is a 2-piece but you can use a DSE901 atomizer on it w/ no adapter needed

batteries, if manual, should last 150 recharges

atomizers - you need spares, LR ones more apt to die because they run hotter, I only use them for dripping on a manual battery

carts - last almost forever - you can restuff, wash, dry, but carts suck in a number of ways. I only use a cart if I want to do an extended test of a juice and don't want to commit a carto to it

cartomizers - I love them but they are disposable. I can usually get 4-7 days out of one. Sometimes I can get 2 weeks out of a standard resistance Boge soft-cap. Blank cartos cost about $2 each

juice - nobody else can guess your juice usage. I use 1.5-2ml per day. some others use 5ml per day or more

What kind of cigs do you smoke? I don;'t really recommend starting on LR (low resistance) attys or cartos. Riva comes with LR attys where I bought it. I want them now because I started at 18mg where standard resistance was plenty of TH, and have dropped my nic twice and at 6mg there is very little TH. Heat can help TH so sometimes I now vape 6mg and 0mg on the Riva w/ LR carto. But I think LR would have been way too much TH for me when I started. So I recommend if you get Riva, buy some standard resistance Boge cartos to start.

I think once you have your equipment and spares and enough charging stuff for home and work, the biggest expense is juice. I end up buying a lot more juice than I vape. I had to buy a lot of juices to find ones that really really put a smile on my face. I had juices before that which certainly worked for me. But I was trying to find huge favorites (and still am). If you can hone in on some you like and buy larger bottles, the price is a bit lower. You can also make your own juices but again there are startup costs. I used to spend $50 or more per week on cigs. I do not vape $50 of juice in a week or even in a month.

Riva - other stuff you would need is 1-2 Ego battery clips aka button protectors (in the Ego batteries section on Liberty-Flights.com). If you want to use the Riva 510 with cartos and have the cone on then you need a Riva 901 cone (I tried it today and it does screw on Riva 510 fine and fits over a carto). Usually I don't use the cone though. One or more drip tips. I often use a colored plastic one in a carto as a mouthpiece and you also use a drip tip for dripping. Cartos figure - depend how many you want to use at once. 3 packs of Boge cartos per month should be enough to use 2 and sometimes 3 at once with different flavors. Other brands may give less reuse. And you need juice to start (juice at hardware vendors may be Chinese PG - can be a bit rough on the tongue and throat since nicotine is a skin irritant and PG does little to buffer that. I prefer juices around 70pg/30vg from Elsewhere.

hi razmataz,

new to this business as well. Maybe I could offer a newbie view that has managed to make the transition by 17 days now.
Lots of good terminology explanations above - good. You may look at explaining to your partner that e-cigs are cheaper than tobacco by 40%-50% (or more) to get the approval for going ahead.

Start up costs will be more than ongoing costs, so if you make 2 or 3 or 4 purchases in the first while it is moving towards finding what works best for your needs and tastes and costs will steady out over time.

Vaping is alot about getting good clouds of vapor and at first I only had PG liquid - great for TH and taste, but vapor was low until I finally twigged to cutting in VG juice (70% PG with 30% VG seems to be a something of a standard) then I got the taste, TH and vapor and the "ah-hah" thing about how great vaping is.

If you go with 510 models, you may want to look at a PCC to keep you smoothly in continual good charged batteries if out for a day. PCC is around $30 but worth every penny.

This vaping is so worth it, I hope it works out for you.

I use 808's and love them. One suggestion is to look at as many vendors as possible. I have seen kits anywhere from $50 to $150 and there is very little difference except for the price. Check around this site and see what people are using, then google "electronic cigarettes or e-cigs" and many vendors will pop up, some of which you may have seen discussed here. As a noobie I found price doesn't equal quality. Good luck and welcome to vaping.

The Riva has a MUCH longer battery life and should be more consistent due to the better battery than the 808.

lol, he's really not soo controlling as he sounds with that statement! with the large start up cost and us trying to save and stuff he has to clear it through our accounts first! if we don't have the money he'll say no for now!! when we have the money (if not now, we will have it when he gets paid next) we'll revisit!! or he doesn't get laid!! lol!!

It's not like you're buying yourself a Jaguar or anything.

Seriously, I can see him wondering if he's going to spend a lot and you don't like it. But you can really do it pretty cheap. After the initial investment of the kit and some supplies, probably around $70, all you need to buy is juice and an occastional atty or cartos or something.

You could try a disposable for around $10 to see if you like it, but I wouldn't recommend it. They aren't as good as the regular pv.

If you hate it- which I doubt, you can sell it in the classifieds.

After you figure out which hardware, nic level and juice flavors works for you it be comes A LOT CHEAPER than smoking analogs.

Raz, Welcome to EFC I know how you feel I am very new to this and was also worried about the cost. Honestly I had spend more money trying models that did not work. Now I am a Riva person I had recently purchased a Riva Kit from LF and with their 20% discount (make sure you select the 20% off link on top left hand of their page before ordering so you can see the sales price) if you get the Riva lite bundle it will be $29.99 you will need some juice you can get 5 ml bottles for $2.99 of your choice with nic amounts all depends on what you smoke and how much you smoke would suggest getting two different strengths I purchased 12mg to start was to light went to 16 mg was right for me I have purchased some 6 mg because I find that I love trying all my flavors and will get a headache with the 16 mg. This should keep you set for a few weeks starting off initial investment with Riva lite kit (x 750mAh Battery
2 x 510 Atomizer - 2.2 ohm resistance
1 x USB Fast Charger
1 x USB Mains Plug (US)
10 x Blank Carts - e-liquid will be required to fill the cartridges, sold separately
1 x Atomizer Cone $29.99 (with coupon)
2 Bottles of Juice ($2.99 a piece) $5.98 and shipping I'm putting $6.00 total investment $41.97 now I know that sounds high but how much do you spend on a carton or a pack *14 days I am very pleased with my Riva and have purchased 3 riva kits just to have some in stock also wanted a pink one LOL took me three days to get my order from LF.. Hope this helps. Congratulations on your new Baby..... :)

Lots of good advice here. Just to give you a quick point of reference, this is what I started out with from Liberty Flights:

Steel Riva 510 - SE Edition
510 LR Atomizers - 5 pack
EGO 650mah passthru
510 blank cartridges - 2 x 5packs
Boge 510 2.0 Ohm Cartomizer - 2 x 5packs
6 vg & 6 pg 5ml juice samples

Total came to ~$130, including shipping, after the 20% ECF discount code

This was quite a bit more than what I really needed, but I wanted to make sure I had everything. Aside from the juices, I figure this is enough to last me at least several months, and probably more. In hindsight, I could have reduced my initial cost by cutting out the passthrough, the LR Atomizer 5 pack, the extra cartridges, 1 pack of cartos, and ordered the Riva 510 Lite instead of the SE. That would have put the start up cost at less than $75, and would be plenty of hardware to last a good while.

Even with everything I got, and another ~$80-90 I've since spent on juice, both samplers and full size bottles, I'll be better than even in less than six weeks, and I have enough hardware and juice to easily last 3-4 months or more without spending another dime. YMMV

Hi raz, i would go for the cheapest e cig you can find. You may have to experiment a little with the way you drag on it. It is slightly different to lugging a killer cigarette.
You have a child now. I can totally understand why you would want to quit. Buy a cheap one and show your husband that to then spend a little more is going to save a lot of money, and smell. You will do it. You just need a a hand. An e cig has been a big help to me. I've stopped for a week now. I haven't argued with my wife. She's stopped the day after me. So theres a lot of potential for spats now. But we are both calm. Toking on our cheap, cigarette like, e cigs. Marvellous.
