I was planning a mod. I'm not electrically inept. I understand enough to wire an ic via a diagram to get it to work. Voltage regulators ect. But my knowlege lacks. I don't understand what sort of component\s are involved in the on off push button on a factory 510 battery. Its obviously not just a switch because connection to the battery connector must be maintained to allow charging when the button isn't pressed. It put a big stumbling block as I'm working on my battery mod. I need something small and perbuilt or what type of ic is involved so I can google how to wire it up or start to understand it. Id like to change these batteries on a standard 510 battery charger. Any input is greatly apperciated.
i feel dumb. how does a factory 510 battery switch work?

They use a mosfets to run the switch and also to let it charge. If you have a dead battery rip one open and get a magnified glass to read the numbers off it. Bad thing is the ones they use are tiny. I mean really tiny. So good luck trying to solder some. They pretty much have to be reflowed. Which is a type of soldering they do at the factory for these small components. Dont think your going to find anything prebuilt on these. This is something you would have to design a circuit board for. At least for how small your trying to make your mod it is. You could always just use the circuit out of a dead 510 battery and hope it wasn't the cause of it'`s death. I think you have your sights set too small for a first time mod going bigger will be easyer and also give you more battery life.
Using stock 510 cicuit bat is out the voltage limiting on the circuit is a deal breaker alone. I understand the size is very small. If I have to use a stack or home screened boards to do it ill just have to get it done. I just need to understand what mosfets are used roughly and\or how they are operating so I can. Source components. I know how to solder very small. I really don't want smd. Its no trouble tho to solder small ic with pins and stack boards to fit it al. I'm already considering the possibility I ll have to do my own discharge and lvc crap. This project is getting very involved the farther I get into it. But I'm learning a lot. Most of my problems are a direct result of my form factor. I can't abandon it tho its really the whole point of the project.
Please if anyone can explain even in what ever detail they know what types of chips are uses in what mannor . I at least need a place to start. I don't even know what to start searching for to get started. I was hoping to source an ic that would be reasonable to wire vs a myriad of components

What form factor? I'm working in a 1/2 inch tube now... the circuit board is sideways in the tube.... not recharged inside, however. The switch is run by the MOSFET as explained above. Google "power MOSFET" for info if you need more that what Java gave you.
Search these forums too. Some people have ripped apart chargers and embedded them in a mod but IDK about chargers. I use external ones so I don't over complicate my nice-and-simple mods. That way the batteries don't blow up on me since I don't have to design the charger....

Yeah the part that complicates things is how it charges like a standard battery. Form factor. Get ready for it. 9mm diameter tube ID. Im fully prepared to have to stack multiple round boards to fit all the components. But I'm very determined to bring. True 3.7v. Vaping with a low resistance atty to my door. I got a cell that'll handle it with out a sweat. I'm looking at either standard 510 length or maybe mega length. I know it sounds like a lot of work. It is for me at least. But I found a phenomenal cell I think I can cram in that tube. I don't have my sample yet to be positive of fit but the cell can handle. A low res atty easily. Ill need a pcc but I want a nice vape at work and I'm not about smoking a big alien pv at work.
Pretty sure a mosfet lets it charge with the gate . Hook the charger up and voltage goes to the gate closing the mosfet and allowing juice to flow. Something along those lines anyways maybe a resistor added to the gate to cut the voltage down.

Ok I get it. That's enough information to where I understand how it operates. I should be able to source components. With that info.
I looked up the numbers off a 510 chip i have here and came up with nothing. I really was guessing about the mosfet i am not for sure thats how it works. After thinking about it it could be schottky diode letting the juice pass one way and not the other. Although thats a bit unlikely since there would be a pretty good voltage drop. From all the ones i have taken apart there is always two diodes One i am pretty sure is a mosfet for the tactile switch. The other i am not sure if it is a mosfet or not. There is also always a 8 pin chip which i am 99.997% positive is a battery management IC ( protection chip). I got a couple hello 016 batteries i will take apart and see if i can get a hit on there chip numbers.
