So I've downloaded the e-juice calculator and I'm a bit confused. The very first line,,, Nicotine Strength E-juice. Is this the nic base I'll be using? If I buy nic in a pg base, would I have to change the default of 50%pg and 50%vg? I tried that and it wouldn't let me do it. And I want a 70pg/30vg mix, which calculates out to contain more vg than pg? I used to think I was kinda smart, but this has me a bit baffled. Any help would be greatly appreciated:blush:

Is the calculator you downloaded the eJuice Me Up one? If it is, it could be that you need administrator privileges when you run it. I always run mine as administrator and haven't had the problem with not being able to change the default nic base percentages. Maybe try that? But, yes, you do need to change the percentage of default nic PG to 100% and default nic base VG to 0%.

Okay, the percentages in the top line are your actual base mix. If it's 100 pg then put 100 in the pg space and the nic mg. in the mg line.

Down at the bottom you should put 50 pg and 50 vg. The top lines are for calculating your base mix. In other words whats your base and what percent of nic do you want the final mix to be. Down below is the actual mix with all the flavorings combined.

If you look at the menu drop downs up top you'll find instructions and also a flavor percentage calculator.

Play around with it. I'm sure you'll find it immensely helpful once you get going. Most of all, have fun.

Thanks everyone!! I found the how-to on the calculator (yes, it's the breaktru calculator). I'll go read that and see if I can deciper it:blink: I haven't actually bought anything yet, but was thinking if I bought 100mg nic base in pg and diluted it with plain vg, half and half, it would make a 50mg nic base to use for mixing... yes? Guess I didn't read far enough... thanks for the links.... now I got some MORE reading to do!

No, no,no. Don't mess with 100 mg. nicotine. It is diluted down to 10%. You need both PG & VG to mix it down to 50/50or 70/30. For instance : I use 100mg. 80/20 nicotine from Wizards Lab and I mix it down to 8 mg. 50/50. So if I want 120 mls. of my base mix I combine 9.6 mls of the 100 mg. nicotine with 58.08 mls. VG and 52.32 mls. PG That gives me 120 mls. of 50/50 6 mg. base mix.

Oh good grief!!! My head is swimming! I've been looking at Xtreme Vaping for their nic base. It's actually cheaper to buy 50mg pg base in a larger quantity than trying to dilute down the 100mg stuff. And really, I guess I don't really want to mess around with that anyway. I finally figured out how to use that calculator too... wicked easy! Now to research where to get my flavorings... (this research is endless!)

Actually, that's good. 100mg nic base MUST be handled with extreme caution. Wearing rubber gloves is a must. I would also wear gloves handling 50mg nic juice.

Don't be too intimated by DIYing. Just have enough space, the right materials, and yes, gloves. As for where to get flavors, it kind of depends on what type of flavors you like. I like different flavors from different vendors, perhaps find a place that offers a few different sources of flavoring. Capella's is a pretty good starter one for flavorings (more forgiving) although I like FlavourArt for some tobaccos and The Flavor Apprentice for a wider spectrum of different flavors. That being said, TFA is a harder one to pinpoint percentages at. But, everyone has such varied tastes. If you have particular eLiquids you like you might be able to get some help finding flavorings that are similar.

Well, my absolute favorite and the one I always go back to is peach. There are three that I use daily but that peach is my all time favorite. I also have a nice cranberry/orange mix and a lime that are in my daily rotation. I guess fruit is my thing. I'll likely need a sweetener too. No tobacco in any of those... for tobacco I'll stick to Gandalf. Now, I think I read somewhere to stay away from oil based flavorings?? I don't want to make this any more difficult than it needs to be... but it seems the more I read, the more confused I get! And I've been taking notes, too! I really think the 50mg nic is the way to go (yes, with gloves!) and that calculator really does make it seem pretty easy. As with almost everything about this little hobby... I'm about to dive into something I swore I would never attempt!!! I'll go look at Capellas.....

OK, I hope uploading the pic works, and please remember that I'm working to the best of my knowledge here!

Line A corresponds to your base. Mine, for example is 54mg in strength and in PG, so I enter 100% PG and 54 into the strength box.
Line B corresponds to the strength you'd like...mine says 12mg because that's what I was aiming for.
Line C is how much you'd like to make, 5ml, 100ml - the choice is yours!
Line D is your dilutant. I've started adding 5% distilled water to mine as the VG was clogging my cartos.
Lines E and F are where you input your flavours.
Section G is the ratio you wanna come out with. If you're 50/50, enter it, if you're 70/30, like me, enter that.

Easy peasy, buttock squeezy!- it took me about three weeks to work it out though!x

TFA's Juicy Peach is pretty good, too. Also, Capella's Peaches and Cream. For TFA flavors, this thread can help guide you on percentages. I tend to order TFA from WizardLabs because it's a great size for a great price, but they're still recovering from their move so it might take a little while to get an order delivered (I'm awaiting an order placed on 2/6, but I knew ahead of time it would be a while), however, they sell their TFA flavors in glass vials which I love and their packaging is insanely well done.

Yes, avoid oil based flavorings. They'll gum up your atties/cartos and may have unwanted health effects from what I've heard.

As far as the sweetener goes I suggest ethyl maltol, you can buy it already diluted but I prefer buying it in solid form for two reasons. One it's cheaper, and secondly you can decide just how strong you would like it.
