After a particulary stressful day yesterday...we are trying to get passports and they would not accept my husband's birth certificate because it does not have his mother and father's names on it & he was born in Okinawa while his dad was stationed there in the Air Force, I thought we had made it over a major bump in the road.

Today, he sent me a text telling me that he took $10 out of my purse to buy cigarettes even though we discussed last night that we were going to stick with vaping. We have both quit before and know that it gets easier with time and having the nicotine from the vaping is making things easier. Now, he has an appointment with a doctor to get on Chantix, which is fine with me but I am not okay with him smoking in the house nor spending anymore money on cigarettes. GGGGRRRRR!!! I am SO frustrated!!:-x

madison, I have a friend whose husband was born in Japan (father was also Air Force, stationed in Japan) and has no birth certificate at all but has a passport...... I just called her about this. She couldn't remember how her husband handled this but will talk to him and get back with me. He travels all the time. He has had a passport for many years though; things may be different with the way things are in the world. I'll let you know!

constant state of confusion
My brother was born in England and had two birth certificates, the US one my parent's never applied for and the British one was who knows where. For his passport, he had to use my parent's marriage license. Of course, after he had his passport, we found the missing birth certificate....

And I feel your frustration as I know that Ogre had the same frustrations with me continuing to smoke and not really understanding why. For some of us, the cravings are more intense than they are for others. Some of us don't have as much willpower as others. I live in a house full of smokers. Temptation is always there but I spend a lot of time in my room now because I am still dealing with cravings from my backslide during my chemo/radiation. I just got the lecture the other day that I have 24 mods and over 200 bottles of juice.....I have no reason to smoke or want to smoke but the truth is I am still struggling. I haven't given in yet, but sometimes I want to. I have a special bottle of juice now that I vape when I have cravings. It does NOT taste good but it helps. It is purecig with menthol (I was a menthol smoker) from FSUSA in 30 mg. It tastes like licking an ashtray. Awful but serves as a not so gentle reminder to me to me what analogs taste like.

Thanks, Lisa! The crazy thing is: WE HAVE HIS BIRTH CERTIFICATE. As of April 1st of this year all birth certificates have to include the names of both parents in order to be considered "appropriate" documentation. It has been SO frustrating. I have talked to the vital records office as well as the Department of State, who issued his birth certificate and we have no other options but to pay $116 to VitaChek to get a birth certificate that includes his folks' names and hope we get it back in time to get a passport for him before our trip in four months. Whew!!

Thanks, Charmed! The crazy thing is, he felt bad for taking the money which put him in a funk, which made him turn to smoking even more today. I explained to him that he set himself up to fail and he agrees. Why do something if it is going to make you feel guilty and depressed for doing it? I guess I need to cut him some slack. He did smoke 2 packs a day before we started to vape. I just feel like he is on a slippery slope and could easily fall back into what he was doing before. Quite frankly, we cannot afford vaping, Chantix AND his 2 ppd habit.

Thanks for letting me vent. I broke down and smoked one cigarette yesterday, but that is because we still had some in the house (and all of the stress). I am ...... that now I know there are some sitting outside in his car and it is weakening my resolve. MEH.... :/

Thanks for the support Fudgey and Laura!! I am vaping my booty off!! HAHAHA!! Laura, I tried Chantix years ago and had crazy nightmares, lost my short-term memory and was VERY emotional, so I won't be doing that again. My husband tried it and swears he did not have those kinds of side-effects, so we will see.

GOOD news!! Apparently Nick's Mom has the birth certificate that was issued once they returned to the states and he was registered as a citizen. It has both his Mom and Dad's names on it and she overnighted to us today. Thank goodness...that source of stress is gone.

One thing you must learn very quickly..is that life is stress, one after another. It's good for us and must not be used to foster or excuse our habits. My husband quit smoking several times, cold turkey and then went back to smoking? Why..something in his life went wrong. I couldn't stay quit when he smoked..so I went back. But with E-cigs I did it (finally) and he didn't. He says :The taste isn't like my smokes, too much nic, not enough nic, wrong type E-cig, wrong cart or carto....on and on. Your mind will find a reason to smoke because it is used to all the chemicals..change your mind or as I told Mike or change your respirator.
Hang in Madison, you will make it..we are here.

That's what us ladies are here for :) A lady I work with quit using Chantix, other people I know can't handle it.

Glad she found it!!

Hi Madison! Hang in there!

I've been a little MIA dealing with stressful issues myself, and let me tell you....I could have eaten a couple of packs of cigs a day the last few days. I did slip up I admit...but nothing close to what I use to smoke a day in annalogs. I'm thankful for that and told myself how many I DIDN'T smoke was the main thing. Foolish huh! I'm back to 100% vaping today and have to atone for my slip up.

At any rate...I hope he can get full on board with vaping. :)

My husband & I started vaping 10-2011, I won't go back t analogs, but he stopped vaping 1 month after. We met up with JC Okie a couple of weeks ago and when we got home he decided to give it another try. Here is what I found. He needed to see others vaping besides myself and I made the mistake of not considering he needed more nic in his juice than I did. I diy'ed from the beginning.
After making his juice with more nic he is happily sticking to vaping and has gone to a map tank.
I pray he sticks to it this time, it looks promising.

I hadn't seen this thread til now. Glad you have the birth certificate straightened out Madison. Really good advice from everyone. I just want to agree with everyone being different. Some need more nicotine, some need to supplement with other tobacco alternatives, some can go to no nicotine immediately.

The detox is different for everyone too. Some really miss the head rush from the carbon monoxide, others the immediate calming effect from taking a drag. There is always detox, and all anyone can do is get through it the best they can. (hugs)
