Recently I've had a problem with cigarettes. Keep in mind I smoke cigarettes for 36 years and and Vaped for the last 2 years this is how it started. I figured one little cigarette with my cup of coffee won't hurt nothing. Then it went to two cigarettes then it went to 5. I'm hopelessly addicted to cigarettes and vape. Have any of you fell off the wagon and started smoking again after two years of vaping? And how do I get away from the cigarettes now? I guess I lost another battle with cigarettes. Should I up my nicotine. Oh lordy. I feel like a drug addict.

Yes you should up your nicotine. It's crucial that the vape be strong enough to overcome that temptation to pick up a cigarette. You might even want to have two: one with "morning" liquid and one with "rest of the day" liquid. Falling off the wagon isn't the end of the world and it happens all the time. Some of us have never stopped dual-using. You're still benefiting from harm reduction—don't believe that propaganda that claims one cig is as bad as a whole pack.

You are a drug addict. Accept that. Now the question is: Is it just nicotine that you're addicted to, or is it other stuff in the tobacco like minor alkaloids and MAOIs? If it's the former, then upping your nic might be the solution. If it's the latter, then no amount of plain old nicotine will scratch the itch, and you might need some WTA juice, or something else like an IQOS or Snus that can supply it.

I "fell off the wagon" exactly once, some months after I stopped smoking via vaping. I had about 2/3s of a cigarette. I really enjoyed it at first, but about half way through, I started to feel the irritation in my windpipe that I was so glad to be rid of and I decided I really didn't want that back.

Early on, I did find WTA quite helpful in killing the occasional urge to smoke, and I still drip a drop of it here and there. Last September, I also bought an IQOS kit during a trip to Europe. Both definitely deliver something that plain old nicotine does not. The IQOS even more than the WTA, and without the instant irritation that a real cigarette does. That said, I don't use either one all that often. Most of the time, plain nicotine is fine for me, but people are different...

I feel off the wagon after my one year anniversary and could not seem to stop. It was incredibly unpleasant.

Yes you should up your nicotine in some of your setups, It will help. That's what I did, and it really worked. For me the key was reserving those setups for when I REALLY wanted to smoke, so I didn't get super nic tolerant.

If you have never tried WTA, it may help. It can be obtained very cheaply by the use of Swedish snus (chock full of alkaloids) or more expensively if you want to ADD WTA to your vape.

Aroma is the gold standard for WTA, and yes, it costs like gold honestly. Ohm's vape's isn't terrible, but you do get what you pay for and for sheer quitting power, Aroma is the way to go.

Good luck you can do it. I did. It was in some ways harder because I was like "What should I even do that that is new?" But up your nicotine ,definitely.

An addict is a person with a dependency on a drug that is causing substantial harm. Like the alcoholic who can't hold down a job and abuses his family. Smoking cigarettes can be said to be a borderline addiction as there are eventual concrete negative health effects like increased cancer risk. Vaping is strictly a nicotine dependency.

I did. I had a really stressful event, found an old pack with 3 stale cigarettes, and smoked one.

I never quit vaping, mind you. But that one turned into 5-6 a day.

So, the second time was harder, really, but I did it the same way. I raised my nic - I was down to 3 mg, went up to 6, went up to 12, tried salts at 25 and 35.

Bought all sorts of gear, tried different styles. Just kept trying. I finally got there but it took a few months.

Beating yourself up does no good at all. Just keep trying. Every one you don’t smoke is a win.

Smoking cigs was definitely causing me substantial harm; a horrible smokers' cough and chronic bronchitis that I had more often than not.

I suppose one way of putting is that vaping turns an addiction into a dependency.

What ever you do don't buy any cigs. When I first started vaping I made every excuse to why I should have cigs around just in case. Then why I should smoke them so they don't go to waste, then why blah blah. I put my foot down and just said no. Every now and again i get a craving but they are not in my reach so I vape. Good luck to ya!

Ah addiction rationalization. Been there. Always a mistake
Then it went to two cigarettes then it went to 5. I'm hopelessly addicted to cigarettes and vape.
sounds like you get to start all over again from the beginning. Increase the nic level of your eliquid (maybe a lot), throw ALL your cigarettes away, and every time you want to smoke, vape instead. You’ve bought yourself a whole pile of suck I’m afraid.
Have any of you fell off the wagon and started smoking again
seems not too unusual.
after two years of vaping?
Seems kind of specific. I’m not sure the time period is all that important
And how do I get away from the cigarettes now?
[/Same way you did the last time
I guess I lost another battle with cigarettes. Should I up my nicotine.
[/QUOTE]
Probably.
Oh lordy. I feel like a drug addict.
Well of course. Nicotine is a drug. A fairly powerful one even. Standard drug recovery rules apply.

Others have said everything I would, but if you're not in the UK, snus might be a decent way to get the other compounds your body is craving, if that's the path for you.
Also, hydrate to flush them out if you try to just stick to nicotine only.

Do you DIY? Try a salt blend. I find them more pleasant than freebase or benzo.

Maybe a different flavor? Something new and interesting?

Had my first smoke in months the other day. It happens. Don't beat yourself up.

Benzo is salt.

@Vaperer you have been given great advice.
That AM cig was the toughest of all for me and I resolved that by upping my morning nic. From what you wrote it sounds like that morning cup of coffee and cig were/are very routine for you.
Perhaps work towards changing that by upping your nic in the AM.

Make a plan to quit the cigs and stick with it. Yes the urges come but that is where the higher nic helps. That and being committed to vaping and getting off the smokes.

Falling off the wagon is no big deal ... dust off and hop back on. Learn from why you fell off.
I don't see at it as "lost another battle" as you said because then you are setting yourself up to fail.
Learn and grow from your experience.
You can do this.

I've been walking behind the wagon a little over a year now. Vaping only just doesn't do it for me. And the wagon is loaded with grouchy people.

When I up the nic I smoke more. So I found a pod I like, a flavor I like, a strength that curbs the urge to smoke and smoke a whole lot less. For me 6 strength was the sweet spot, and a sour apple e-juice. More nic causes my urge to smoke to go beyond what a 6 does. A 9 aint bad but it's easier to find 6 in shops. Nic salts like 24+…… forget it, as that stuff makes my heart palpitate. At 3 strength I get nervous and grouchy.

It's easier to keep up with said wagon now that I smoke a lot less. One day I suppose I'll jump on. Perhaps.
Point is you went back to smoking. Don't sweat it. Just take note of how drained you feel, how much they cost, how it sucks to breath again and other negatives and you'll put them back down again someday.

I dual used for about 6 years before going back to smoking full time. It was more of a convenience than something I enjoyed.

By the end, I was a 3 ppd smoker who had 18 months of pneumonia, and was about to be diagnosed with COPD (they also thought I had laryngeal cancer, man I traumatized the hell out of my docs.

So, "someday" doesn't work for me anymore. I don't ever want to be dragging around an oxygen tank and while cancer is NOT very prevalent in my family, well, I'm not out of the woods quite yet.

The only cigarettes I smoke are the stress ones. If I get actively stressed enough to feel like, "I am ready to die, fire one up, I hope this is the one that kills me." Well, that very rarely happens anymore, I'm gonna guess six months or longer.

I have a pack of cigarettes and a lighter in my house, because if I have to HAVE that cigarette, I am going to HAVE it and driving at that point seems pretty ridiculous.

But for the most part... It's just less and less and less. I'm glad because I don't want COPD.

But "someday." Was not going to work for me, I had to be told by my creator "That time is NOW."

IDK how I did it with my husband smoking the whole time, but I will say, I delayed that FIRST cigarette of the day first I know me. If I had not done that I would have been smoking all day long. It got longer and longer and I finally had my first smoke free day.

And I gave great thanks to ECF for putting up with me, and to the inventor of ecigs because I don't think I could have done it otherwise

Was that baby beast the only thing you tried? There are so many different types of devices, mtl pods with high salt juice, mtl pods regular juice, sub ohm rdas with low nic dtl, sub ohm rdas mtl with higher nic, true mtl tanks with high nic, sub ohm rtas low nic, mtl rtas high nic, then salt, no salt, Wta and net juices in those tanks. So honestly some get lucky with their first device and some do not, meaning that if one device doesn't work, there are definitely many more options to try....I know trying different ones costs money, but so do cigs and you dont know until you try......if that one you had isnt cutting it, perhaps something slightly different will....

Seems like the best majority of people fall off the wagon at some point - I know I have a few times! I've only been back vaping for a number of weeks, and I can honestly say it's been tough! I'm currently stuck in a shared house where everyone else smokes and they're constantly offering me one. I think the final push for me was when I had a rollie from my brothers tobacco.....he's a welder and fabricator, and where he's rolling up in work all the time his tobacco was covered in oil and got knows what! I managed to smoke half of it before I threw up and ended up swearing off cigarettes completely. It was a killer for the first two days.....the first week was horrible....the second week I was just about coping but avoiding smokers. Now, well, I went to the pub the other day, set in the beer garden surrounded by smokers, and to be honest, the smell alone was turning me, so I'm pretty sure I can say I'm through with smoking for now. I mean, don't get me wrong, I'm only on 3mg juice, and I'm dripping about 15-20ml a day at the moment (0.37 ohms 55-80W), but I feel a damn sight better for it! And if I can drop down from smoking 2-3 packs a day, or 100+ g of rolling tobacco a week, I honestly believe you can get back on the wagon as well! Just believe in yourself and persevere my friend, I'm sure you'll come through it on top

I got three or four new tanks that I don't use. Every time I get a new mod I got an extra tank. But they're all the same basically I'll figure it out. Cigarettes $10 a pack I cannot smoke it's too expensive. And I would like to live a little longer. I'm going tomorrow and buy me some nicotine. Hopefully that's the Cure

Yes, and I still "slip" now and then. Good folks around here and good support... you are among friends! For me it's that morning cig with my coffee. Then I totally got over that and it was only when around other people smoking, then got over that, and was fine until one day my vape device didn't work... freaked out and bought some cheap cigars ($10 a pack for cigs here in California, but 3 pack of filter cigars only $2) My lesson was to have a backup device (so I have a choice) but still once a week break down and have a cig. Funny thing is after I have a cig and then vape I think " wow, that's so much better... what was I thinking?" I don't miss the smell, the cough, the $10 a pack, the health issues, looking at the nasty butts in the ashtray. I totally needed nicotine at first (18mg) and then happy with 12mg (actually still need that much) and yes, there are other compounds I miss, but if I get a nice nic buzz I'm OK and the vape tastes so good! Been 3 months. A big incentive for me is saving money... can't afford to smoke even if I want to, and after getting a vape device and some juice, it's so much cheaper. Just now getting into DIY juice... talk about saving money! I get frustrated when my coils don't last long enough, but still way cheaper than cigs. It's a fun hobby and you can find lots of clearance sales. My first RDA is coming in a few days... very satisfying to know I can build my own coils, wick them, and make my own juice... I'm hooked big time! Did you know I once hit an all time low? Living in the mountains, no money, room mate smoked and would throw cig butts in the snow. I actually scrounged up the wet butts, dried them on the wood stove, and re-rolled them. I try to remember that nasty taste and how low I felt about myself... how addicted I was. By the way, it's so cool when you see someone in public place vaping and bond with them... same around here... good folks for sure.
