Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles are retro??!?!!!!
My KID watched that. And my youngest now loves Hot Topic just as much as my oldest did. I have to admit. I like some things there too. One of my favorite tee-shirts- I borrowed from my kids ex -came from HT. It had this funky pink creature and simply said:
"welcome to my nightmare"
Hehe. Been searching for that same shirt ever since.

Age is just a reminder of how far we've been able to come and how little we truly know :)

My wife and I pick up our two great nephews 2 or 3 times a week and keep them until Mom gets off from work. The 5 year old prefers Huckleberry Hound, Yogi Bear, Popeye, and Scooby Doo over any of the new cartoons on TV. If he gets bored, I flip Boomerang on and he is oblivious of anything going on besides Boom.

Judging from some of the comments here, the old music and the old TV shows have lasting value over some of the computer generated stuff of today. With certain exceptions, there's a better moral message threaded through both. I know some grandparents who say their grandkids would rather watch the TV Land channel than some of the other channels.

I have no idea where I'm at
Bassnut, Played the bass to those same guys tunes, but add Thin Lizzy. Heck, I saw all those guys you mentioned in concert! I should pull out my old concert t-shirts and blow the kiddies minds. They would probably think they were retro. But they are not retro, they are originals! Old, bah humbug, we actually know the true meaning of "rocking out". Keep jammin

The gf and I were walking around the mall and decided to stop in hot topic for the hell of it. While looking at the band t-shirts I realized that I didn't recognize the bands anymore. There wasn't a priest, maiden, motorhead or megadeth t-shirt to be found. Id have settled for a ronnie james dio but alas, no luck either.

And it struck me, I'm getting old. Things were weird, the fashions were weird, I just completely felt out of touch. It seems though that companies don't mind raping my childhood for profit, there were plenty of retro teenage mutant ninja turtles t-shirts and the like.

We left, me clutching the latest motorhead cd ( yes a cd lol. I've literally never touched an mp3 player) and I just felt completely down.

Has anyone else had a "god, I'm getting old" moment?

Oh,for the record I'm only 33 lol.
I am 35 and never owned a mp3 player. My old moment was when my daughters friend never herd of VHS.

A few years ago, when I turned 50. my daughter offered to get me a new tat. Wonderful idea, I thought, and envisioned a simple triple moon or small dragon. NO, she wanted to have my name, address and phone number tattooed on me so if I got lost, someone could return me home.... sigh.

Brightest Blessings!

It also doesn't help that my gf says I have "old man" tastes and mocks me for it lol. I like ovaltine, oatmeal, pepsodent tooth paste, original scent old spice and brut, I prefer butter pecan ice cream, when I think of candy I think of sky bars and mallow cups, just stuff that really isn't associated with people under 70 lol.

HOLY CRACKERS man!! Your GF is right! You like ovaltine and pepsodent and original scent old spice (I love it too, reminds me of my father who also LOVED butter pecan ice cream) and you're only 33???? My dad would be 80 if he were alive. I'm CONVINCED you are reincarnated. Maybe you're my dad? LOL. Mallow cups? I haven't seen them since I was a kid, but I hear they are big out east. Never head of sky bars, perhaps you're from a different part of the country than me (midwest), but I also think you def. from a different era as well!!!
