A passthrough is a device that powers the PV without the need for a battery. They are powered by a USB port and can be used without the need for recharging like a typical battery. The 510 passthrough as a battery inside it that powers the atomizer.
In a nutshell, it powers the 510 at full power constantly without the need for dealing with a battery. I have one and recommend anyone to buy one.

It doesn't charge. You just plug it into your computer or power pack, screw on the atomizer and vape away!
