Whiskey, you always have the coolest avatars.

I agree!! Love seeing what she changes to every day :)

Speaking of avatars 5C, I have a new one I'm thinking about but, Ms. Bovine will need her purple hat...I wonder if we can find an old fashioned bonnet. I'll start looking for one. Maybe this one will work

The process dosent sound horrible. Ive done a few similar things doing construction years ago. It was just a larger scale bending wood for fixtures and such. Only other question I really have is where did you get the veneers and banding? Local or internet?

Oh and thanks for the super detailed post :)

Hey Ruppy, I have collected veneers from all over and no longer remember where most of them came from but I know a few stores that carry a variety of veneers and bandings. One is Woodcraft. There's a store in Parkersburg. It seems to be the only one in WV. Here's a link to their site Woodworking Plans & Tools | Fine Woodworking Project & Supplies at Woodcraft
Another store is Rockler and it looks like the only one in WV. is in Princeton. Their website is here Woodworking Tools Supplies Hardware Plans Finishing - Rockler.com

Man, that is impressive! I'd LOVE to own one just like it! I'd pay too! But... woodworking is a labour of love most often, I've done some furniture, an 8 foot bar and a couple of solid cherry wood tables ( I love working with cherry), the bar is all cherry veneer with 8 inch bar rails, but this kind of detailed small work is very impressive. Building furniture is wood working, but this Buzz' artwork is an artistic talent unto it's own. All I can say is wow.

Woodcraft is right here in Parkersburg so that makes it pretty easy. I never even really thought about them. Thanks ;) Actually their corporate headquarters is a mile from where I work.

Hi whiskey.
Well, that and working on building an inventory of new furniture pieces. The first piece I finished was a new media stand for myself. I needed it for that new TV. Here's a couple pics of it.

That is amazing! I love the way you designed the shape to compliment the grain! Excellent work. Beautiful.

There ya go Ruppy. I buy a lot of stuff from them and the closest store to me is over an hour away (I live in the boonies).
For the masking I carefully epoxied small circles of onion skin tracing paper over the adjustment screw hole and the ground screw hole. For the button recess I formed a piece of air drying modeling clay (bought from a Michael's craft store) to cover the area of the recess. It was easy to just pry off after the work was done. The battery vent holes are easy to mask from the inside with tape. I also made caps that adhered to the inside of the tube from masking tape.
To hold the work while I sprayed the finish I roughly carved two small half domes from basswood and stuck yhem to the pads of a bar clamp so that they nested nicely into the ends of the tube when I gently closed the clamp on it.
Good luck friend. It was pretty careful work. You don't want to damage something as precious as a Buzz.

Hey Freaky one! That is actually the natural edge of the cherry tree with the bark stripped off and the edge sanded smooth. I've been incorporating that look in quite a bit of my work lately. I like to use the organic shape of the natural edge to guide me through the design process. I believe that there's no greater designer than mother nature.
