their inability to post a message that is not full of poor grammar and disregard of the rules of punctuation.

Typos, I can forgive. These are not typos.

It is as if my 2nd grader were trying to compose a text message for the first time, while wearing mittens.

I don't want them mixing my juice if they cannot post a message that doesn't need decipering.

I do not expect English major composition; just show some regard for what you're posting and the people trying to read it.

That is all.

I have to make a comment to this. I have a learning disability that effects me when I try to write, or try to spell any word that is out there. I fight it everyday to become better at it. I have taken extra classes even to try bettering myself at it. All tho I fail at it everyday in ways a second grader could make fun of me. I have only gotten a little better at it with years of trying.

Most people just don't understand how this effects people if they don't suffer from this disability. It's almost as trying to read backwards, and then understanding it correctly.

When I want something to be correct. I have to literally read what I wrote at least ten times, but in the end I always seem to miss something.

Yet, this problem does not effect other things I try to do. It does not mean I'm brain dead, because of poor grammar skills. That guy could be really good at mixing liquid, and saying that he isn't over his grammar is poor taste in my eyes.

My post was speaking in terms of business in general. A business owner should always conduct themselves in a professional manner in front of their customers. If someone has a similar disability to yours and is conducting business here, they should do as you said; check over their post to make sure it is worded, spelled, and punctuated properly. I don't expect perfection, only an honest effort.

By the way, your post was very well written. Had you not mentioned a difficulty I never would have known.

Hi DaMulta,

I'm sorry for your problem, I have friends with dyslexia and I know at least from their input that it is VERY frustrating and it does NOT mean you are unintelligent. However, your post was quite easy to understand, which shows that you either are capable of communicating well OR you take the time to MAKE SURE your communication is clear. It sounds like the OP is talking about not someone merely with bad grammar but poor business practices in that he/she does not take the time to ensure he/she is communicating professionally. It may be a large amount of extra work for those with learning disabilities, but as you have demonstrated, it is not impossible to either use tools or others' assistance to make sure what you send is able to be understood.

Trust me, I know of people who definitely don't have learning disabilities and are just careless with their posts/emails/letters/etc. If I am understanding correctly, the OP is probably referring to this and not attempting to insult a person with LD...

DaMulta - it is clear from your post, however, that you've put in an effort. Honestly, your post reads better than most. As the OP said, a typo here and there can be overlooked. Your post was full sentences, proper grammar, etc.

I have to agree with the OP though, I definitely take a supplier's ability to communicate as an indicator of the seriousness with which they approach their business.

EDITED TO ADD:
Damn, guess I type too slowly.

As a former technical editor, I HAD learned when to cut off the editing persona outside of my workplace. Unless you know someone personally, you don't know why their written communication skill is the way it is.

You'd be surprised at how many high-level executives would be ridiculed if they didn't have someone behind the scene correcting their mistakes.

People are "smart" in different ways.

I am not saying someone isn't "smart".

My father was the "smartest" person I have ever known, and he could not spell.

I am saying that I don't want them mixing my juice.

Hell, if Mr. TV and Drew were inarticalate and sloppy (they are not), I wouldn't order from them either.

Like I said, I have dyscalculia. I couldn't be an accountant if I wanted to be.

Of course they would be ridiculed.. that is exactly why they have someone behind the scenes correcting their mistakes.

That is exactly what is being said here.
I see no reason why a business shouldn't expect it's level of communication to affect how it's customer base looks at the business as a whole.

Very true. My boss is amazing, incredibly smart. Writing is not his strong suit and he knows it. He sends all of his stuff to myself and another person to proofread before it goes out the door.
