With a little more information I am positive that someone here can help you find out where you are going wrong. I have not tried the cotton yet (mainly because I bought 33 feet of silica) but I have been super pleased with my 3 igo-L's. Love them. I know several that use cotton and have no problems so it must have to be something to do with what resistance you are getting. I try to get around 1.8Ω and I am using 32 guage Kanthal. I'm sure someone will help you. Good luck.:)

I would troubleshoot the following way : rinse under hot water - remove wick- dry - ohm check - dry fire ( does coil heat up inside and spread out -assuming micro coil ) if yes - replace wick ( not to tight not to loose ) - few drops of juice - watch when firing for nice amount of vape.

Start at lowest wattage setting and work you way up for sweet spot of flavor and vapor.

Also, adjust how high up the coil is relative to the deck. I've found in my IGO-W, a few things can happen:

If the coil is too low and I add too much liquid, the liquid will touch the coil and get hot and boil. Tastes nasty, tends to carmelize the coils. Don't loop cotton under the coil/s if you can help it. Line up the air hole with the coil, and again - with these side venting atomizers, raise that coil up.

Also - if you have the voltage too high (mentioned earlier), can burn if you don't realize what's happening.

Last thought - if you have burned the cotton (truly burned), replace it. Nothing worse than adjusting things and then 30 minutes later finding out it's burnt to a crisp inside the coil. For me, if it's not totally screwed I can shift it to where the "burn" is exposed (and covering a clean piece of wick) and eventually it cleans up. I only do this if I don't have access to cotton and am out and about.

for the igo-l i use a small piece of cotton...roll it gently and it should slide through the coils without bunching up...there should be some resistance when pulling through. I then let each end touch the deck but do not wrap under the coil or around the post. The ends will sop up any juice that misses the coil. Wet everything down with juice...Then add 2 drops right on top of the coil and go. Make sure that the coil is off the deck and right in front of the air hole. With the igo-L you dont need a lot of coton, etc. Cotton beds waste a lot of juice. My wick is probably 1.5 inches long max. With this setup like i described you drip 2 drops get 3-5 good pulls until the vape starts feeling dry or thin and then drip again. Always drip right ontop of the coil. If you are still burning you are running too hot at the coil or not enough air flow (drilll out your your airhole). if you coil is not heating evenly check to make sure your posts are tight.

This is a Phoenix V4 but similar to the igo-L.

I'm also getting dry hits with 30ga kanthal with 1.5 - 1.9 ohm coils. Possibly the microcoils (1.5 to 2.0mm diameter) I'm building is too hot and my cotton wick isn't efficient enough.

I'm starting to use macrocoils (3.0 mm or more) with 28ga at 10 wraps, but it heats up too slowly even at 15 watts. I've reduced it down to 8 wraps at 1.3 ohm, and so far it has been pretty good.
