So, I'm assuming I have to charge the critter before it will work, right? I received my Riva today and got a little ahead of myself...apparently. I put it all together, the little blue light came on, I heard a sizzle like the atomizer was heating up, but no vapor. If I do have to charge it, how long? Ugh...I HATE being a noob! LOL

AHHHHH! *giggle* GOT IT! :) Thank you so much, JonMo! Wow...first one gave me a major throat hit. *cough* An interesting taste. Not exactly quite sure how thrilled I am about having to push the little blue button though. Makes it seem less like a real cigarette.

It won't be long before you realize that that doesn't really matter.
You will realize that functionality is more important than looks/style.

Also, atomizers come with a primer liquid in them to keep them moist for storage/shipping.

That primer isn't bad for you, but doesn't taste too good. And it turns several potential vapers away.

Take the atomizer off the Battery, Remove the cartridge from the atomizer.
and blow through the atomizer from the NON threaded end, while holding a paper towel on the other end.
Blow HARD
Keep blowing until no more liquid comes out.

Then put it back on the battery, and add about 4-5 drops of your liquid
Wait a minute or so, and drop a couple more, then start vaping

I've got an auto and 2 manuals. I've been vaping for 15 days and I truly like the manual better. However, if I have to use the auto, I'm looking at the usb charger waiting for the other manual to charged. There is no set way to do any of this....no e-police to break down your door.....:laugh: Whatever works the best for you is the way you need to go.

I have the Joye 510. I purposely got the black because it looks stealthy. Okay, so I'm a bit odd!:) Vaping, to me after 15 days, is a much better way to go from 2 PAD to not smoking a little over 3 cartons of analogs. I can't imagine going back to analogs and I find this so miraculous....but it's true.

Can't wait until we hear you say you don't want anything that is like a real cig:) Most of us took that journey, for me it was a white with red led, then black with led, stainless, titanium, pink, red, copper, blue, on to big old mods in all sorts of pretty skins/colors.

hi Pearman! It's EXCITING isn't it? Don't worry about the button thing...you will have forgotten about it in a matter of a few days...follow JonMo1's advice (above) to the letter, and if you happen to have a "flavored" liquid in your arsenal, give that a try as well....you may not like the "sweet" liquids...many people don't care for them, but it's worth trying at least once

what really blew my socks off when i first started vaping, was when i loaded up a cartridge with "rasberry", and it TASTED like rasberries (imagine that). hard to explain, but the realization that you now have HUNDREDS of possible flavors at your fingertips was one of the things that really got me hooked on vaping. if you want to get a really good feel for the flavor, take a small puff but dont inhale it....just pull the vapor into your mouth, and then immediately blow it back out of your nose slowly...it really makes the flavor come through...that's how i determine if i really like a flavor or not....and if all you have are the stock pre-filled cartridges, by all means don't make your judgement from that - get some good e-liquid from one of the suppliers here on the site, and try out different flavors...i'm sure there will be several that you really like

Well, I did blow out the atomizer and quite a bit of liquid did come out. Unfortunately, I didn't order any juices simply because I wasn't sure how I would like the e-cig in general. I guess I should have, but hind sight is 20/20. LOL I really am an easy person to please and I must be causing many of you to say "just shut up and vape already!" Granted, the taste is not any more unappealing than that of a cigarette. And, that was one thing about me that always made no sense. I hated the taste of cigarettes, but the hand-to-mouth and exhale motion is what attracted me. Being married to a smoker, I would see him light one up every morning and as much as I hated the smell, the motion got me wanting another one.

I guess what it boils down to is I know I can get used to the device. And, you're right...I shouldn't really "want" it to resemble an analog too much. After all, I'm trying to stop using them. The whole thing that got me to try my first smoke was seeing how "cool" it looked. Yeah...I know. Stupid. LOL So, if I can get used to the device and the fact it doesn't resemble an analog enough to make me feel like I'm getting that same motion, I just need to get the taste to where it doesn't deter me from wanting to put down the PV and grab an analog.

Have you ever seen anyone so needy and hard to please before? LOL *sigh*

no worries, you're no different than a lot of us were when we first got started. but, as menaice said, if you think you might dig vaping (and it sounds like you do), you should head out to an e-liquid web site pronto and snag a few liquids

    couple of quick suggestions -
the liquids come in different nicotine strengths...everyone is different, but as a general guideline:

    * 18mg = middle of the road strength
    * lower than that is leaning towards weaker (12mg, 8mg, etc...)
    * higher than that is leaning towards strong (24mg, 36mg)

you can also find "sampler" size liquids in 4milliLiter to 6 milliLiter bottle sizes, or even the more common 10mL sisze.....in the beginning i'd recommend you buy a bunch of these (only around $4 bucks each for the 6 mL)...that way you're not wasting $ just to find out you don't like a particular flavor
30 mL bottles will last a pretty long time....buy this size after you've found a flavor you really like....you can also use this same approach towards strengths...when getting your "sampler" sizes, order one of each different flavor level...12mg, 18mg, 24mg, etc....

this would prob. be the most cost efficient way to very quickly nail down the strength/flavor combination that works for you

oh and if you find a rasberry flavor - give it a shot ; ) - it's one of my personal FAVS right now

I read one report from an auto user who found that his auto Ecig came on by itself at a concert just from the vibrations of a rock band. There he was with two ecigs coming on in his shirt pocket and heating up his chest. He had to unscrew the batts to stop the heating of the atomizer, put them back together to vape, then unscrew that batts again in between vapes.

Manuals are the way to go, IMHO.

I think half my battle right now is trying to figure out what I have in my box. LOL The atomized carts (a box of 10) are the critters that have the nasty liquid in them...I'm assuming. Then, I got atomized refill filters (a pack of 5) that is what I would think I would fill with juice with the scary little syringe I ordered. Am I assuming correctly, or am I doing the "making an .... out of you and me" thing? LOL
