first impressions:
1. I guess the comments of others about paper towell packaging had an effect, they sent mine is a black velvet bag like a crown royal bottle would be in but smaller and it was wrapped in bubble wrap. nice but not needed guys :) paper towel is good with me as long as the item is protected with the bubble too.

2. It smells of maching oils, I wiped it down and greased the threads with some anti-sieze, but it still smells like machining/ cutting oils. I will take the battery out and wipe it down inside w/ alcohol, I am sure it will smell nicer after that.
As a powder coater, I tend to look and scrutinize (I got the matte black one), I have to say job well done, very smooth, threads protected cleanly (nice edge to end of pc)

3. at 3.7 volts, its more than I will ever need as far as vapor production, crap, I'm using a 510 and am totally satisfied with its performance, the SB is a beast that will satisfy even the hardest of vaporheads.

4. I bought it (SB) and 4-3.7 batteries because I have heard the horror stories of dead batteries with the joye 510 , but seriously, I vape the 510 and one batt last me 5+ hours and one cartridge filled with 8 drops last approx. 3 hours or so (I guess I dont vape as much, just when I get an urge to smoke, I grab it and vape a couple and put it down, 24 mg / 1.5 pack/day guy) The SB will def. be for my daily travels as I think that fat battery would probably last me an easy day or more and I can go w/ confidence w/o carrying a spare battery. The SB is 6061 machined thick/rugged enough that its not going to get damaged, the battery is protected and the switch won't engage on its own, toss it in your pocket and go about your way.

5. I mentioned the awesome vapor production, I feel I should mention, I havent had any leakage of any kind, I guess I fill cartridges and/or drip a bit moderately than others and for me, its an awesome well made mod, that stays dry and hits with the 510 like the heavyweight contender that it is, and thats at it's intended 3.7 volts.

In closing, This vapin' noob has nothing but good things to say about the SB and its construction quality, ease of use, the switch is extremely nice and well located and the performance is what I expected it to be and it didnt dissapoint. In fact, its probably ...... at me for holding it back (3.7 compared to 6) so to speak. The SB is plenty wicked if you have grapes enough to hit it, I think it would probably drop me to the ground if I was to toke like I've seen some do on the videos, Lord knows it will produce some vapor!

I love my SB...i use mine heavily...go through at least 1.5-2 ml per day when using cartridges....probably more with dripping...and the 18650's with LR attys last me at least two days (on the 2400 mAh batteries).

If im using it at 6v, then i have to replace a set somewhere through the day.

I also bought one of the AW high drain batteries...only 1600 mAh but very nice and hits even harder!

Yep: Rock-solid mod. You could give it to a chimp and not have to worry about... hey, wait-a-minute... Anyhoo, nice to hear a critique on the powder coating from someone familiar with such things. I've only seen the "silver".

How durable do you think that coating is? Mine looks like I've been dragging it behind my truck with a chain, but it still works like the day I opened the package (over 6 months ago).

I've heard of "clear" powdercoat, is that something that could preserve the shiny finish of polished aluminum long enough to make it worth doing?

Also, is a "black chrome" powder coat finish as awesome-looking in real life as it appears on the interweb pictures?

That's a lot of questions, maybe this should have been a PM. :)

The powder coat is about as durable as a paint finish can be. It will stay looking "new" better than polished aluminum since it's a semi-gloss black. A mirror polished finish is going to show (eventually) a haze or "spider webbing" due to wear/scratching from synthetic fibers in your clothes. Example of "spider webbing" -- if you look at the reflection of the sun on the finish you will see circles or a "halo" around it. If it's polished without scratches you will not see any artifacts around the reflected image :). A semi-gloss black isn't going to show that.

Clear coat would look awesome. Use some high end car polish like Zaino and it would look like it was coated in glass. Of course you wouldn't be able to touch it without leaving unsightly finger prints and skin oil smears. It would keep the polished look but clear coat scratches too...

Black chrome would probably be an anodized finish and not powder coat.
