Oh I'm sooooo jealous. I tried to build a coil and wick yesterday but just couldn't do it. Well that is to say did the coil ok but just couldn't wick it.

When I got so stressed I nearly went to buy a pack of cigarettes I thought it was time to give up and vape on.

Will try again another time lol. I've bought a magnifying glass which I'm hoping will help (my eyes not as young as they used to be).

Anyway well done OP. I'll get there eventually.

Happy vaping. :)

Good for you, Bud. My experience rebuilding kanger heads was a lot less fruitful. Tried wicking with silica, cotton, and even SS mesh. It was not pretty, shorts, leaks, dry hits. So I turned the page on that. Tried the end-all beat-all Nautilus. Gave them away after a couple of weeks. Then I decided to try an RTA. Bought a FT Kayfun 3.1 ES clone, rolls of 30 and 32 ga Kanthal, an atomizer resistance box, and finally a coiling gizmo. I now have 8 Kayfun between my wife and I.

So,the moral of the story is if you're gonna rebuild, get yourself an RBA and go for it.

Congrats!

Hate to jump in on your thread but wanted to ask about some sources of information for rebuilding. I'm not ready to even try it yet but I'd like to read up or watch videos as much as I can now so down the road I can give it a try. Initially I was very wary or doing so but reading about how much more satisfying the vaping is I'm changing my mind.

Here is a simple overview for rebuilding evod style coils
How to Rebuild EVOD Coil | EVOD BCC

edit: most importantly "Now test your atomizer with ohm meter"
to test for shorts before you actual use your coil.

I suggest you start your own thread.

Members are more than willing to provide links to get you get started safely. Also let us know if you are going to be using a regulated (and which one you have) or mechanical mod. It's much safer to start with a regulated mod when you first begin rebuilding.

to you. Isn't it a wonderful feeling to do something yourself (and it work)

I get the same feeling every time I wrap one and test it. Also when I make my juice. For me, smoking was an addiction but vaping is a hobby. Borderline obsession really. Keep up the good work and I look forward to reading ore about your journey. Have fun.

@jhhollier i just looked at some youtube videos and some forum posts here to get some info to start with and then just looked for forum posts to figure out what the benifits and negatives of building single/dual coils were and then ordered my supplies and built one. definitely get a ohm meter or a mod that tells you the resistance or has some protection against vaping with a shorted out atty.

@jeepyJ i"m using an Itaste VV 3.0 right now vaping at 5 watts.

Im definitely looking forward to christmas money with which I can buy a legit box mod and an RBA but right now I'm gonna rebuild my kanger coils, save money and be proud of my engineering skills.

Rebuilding kanger coils is a hit or miss thing i think, I've read posts of people having terrible results and giving up and I've also read some great success stories. I think rebuilding one of the new kanger coils with the Sheath/barrel arround the dual coil is alot harder so I ordered some kanthal an Ohm meter and some of the old dual coil Silicone top caps that go around the chimney. I was worried when I put my Atty on the Ohm meter and it read 3.5 ohms (my dual coils were 1.5-1.8 ohms) but when I looked at a chart that categorized the OHM rating of single coils and their appropriate voltage I felt pretty good about it and it has turned out to be the best atty I've used with either my Evod or Mini Protank 3.

As I said before this is a 3.5 ohm single coil and I'm vaping her at 5 volts. I haven't read up too much on OHM's law but someone else said that this would be about 7 watts which is pretty conservative on the liquid consumption and tasty enough to satisfy me. I'm a flavor junkie not a cloud chaser (thus the Clearomizer/ low end battery I'm currently using) but I think this setup is great for my tastes. I can try to put up a video of me building a coil and setting it up for the Kanger atty If there is enough interest. I haven't seen enough quality videos about building the new Kanger Dual coils so I'd be down to build one on camera, just let me know

I'm on a college student budget which is why I was sucked into rebuilding coils but with this success I'm definitely looking forward to always building coils and even mixing my own juice. I am an admittedly meticulous guy having repaired and rebuilt both computers and the notorious IPhone in the past and while it takes a desire for perfection, I think that rebuilding an atty was relatively easy. As long as you have the eyesight to ensure that your coil isn't touching any part of the housing it's not supposed to and the materials to rebuild (Kanthal wire, wicking material [cotton from surgical grade gauze in my case], and either an ohm meter or some sort of regulated/ protected battery so you don't blow up your vape) anyone should be able to do this.

The tips I'd give to anyone trying this are make sure you have ample airflow( space around outside of coil in the case of a horizontal build like mine or space through the middle in the case of a vertical build), make sure your coil doesn't make contact with the deck/ housing except for the connection point, and make sure you're using a VV/ VW device or have an OHM meter to test for shorts.

The only useful thing my Ohm meter did was tell me the Ohms of my build so i could share it with others because I use a battery that won't fire a shorted atty but WOE unto you who try to build coils on an unregulated/ unsafe battery because thou may have a build LITERALLY blow up in your face
