Miniprotank microcoil question

Tonight I rebuilt a Mini Protank II head and built my first microcoil. The coil consists of 10 wraps of 30 gauge Kanthal and gave me a reading of 2.6 ohms. The coil heated up properly and had no hotspots, however compared to another Mini Protank II with a stock head the rebuilt head seemed to heat up the base quite a bit more. Is this normal or am I missing something?

Its normal for a micro coil to head up the base much quicker while vaping in my experience. You have alot more resistance wire in there pumping out heat now, and it all has to go somewhere. As long as it is not getting to hot to touch I wouldn't worry about it to much.

I have several devices at hand all the time because I do chain vape and the bases of my protanks will get quite warm (which in turn starts to make my eliquid quite a bit darker - just saying this so you can expect it and not worry why it is getting dark)

Thanks for the info Hugh. It's nowhere near hot to the touch, but I did notice the difference so I thought I'd ask. I wanted to see if this is normal of if I may have missed something with my build.

I'm right there with you Dakota, I'm two weeks in and chain vape also. I suppose it's a mix of having chain smoked with analogs and the fact that blowing clouds is pleasurable in and of itself.

yup, completely normal! If it helps at all I've been more consistent building horizontal coils then vertical. The vertical coils seem to be way more hit or miss and are really picky with how much cotton you stuff in.

Hmmmm, 10 wraps of 30awg for 2.6ohms......that's a mini coil, not a microcoil. But as long as it works for you, vape on.

Try wrapping around an object with a smaller diameter.

Same advice go for 1/16 bit and 8/9 wraps and cotton. 1.8ohms every time. Can chain no problem at 3.8v like 7-8 watts.
