No question is a dumb question. Press the button a second before inhaling, then release the button a second before stopping the inhale.
You can refill the carto a number of times before it's toast. Carto's can even be washed, dry burned, and reused (although I haven't been too successful or had any good luck doing that).

Those look like atomizers and cartridges aka carts (the cart is just plastic and stuff and pushes into the atomizer?). A cart can be used over and over and over (though not the best way to vape - fine for starting out). To replace the cart stuffing use the cheap precut blue foam for 510 at stricylyejuice.com. And atomizers need to be cleaned occasionally.

It looks like you don't have any cartomizers yet. Try Boge 510 standard resistance cartomizers first (they are around 3 ohm and will be more forgiving as you learn, not so easy to singe as the hotter LR ones). I use standard all the time. Only use cartomizers for juices you know you like. Cartos have limited lives. You can keep them damp and may get a week or more use out of a Boge. I get good carto life with thin clear juices. 20% or less VG and I avoid any that seem to drop a lot of flavoring sediment. And buy a plastic or delrin 510 drip tip.

After the battery is charged (and don't screw it into the charger any further than necessary)

First there is primer on the atomizer (if you have already been vaping and are past the nasty primer or the atty had none then ignore this). * Blow it out into a tissue. Drip 4 drops of eliquid on the bridge /\ of the atomizer and wait 30 seconds or so for that to soak down. Vape that mostly off WITHOUT inhaling (use an empty cart or drip tip if you have one, else a normal cart). Repeat from *. Now repeat again and this time try inhaling.

How you vape:

press the button in the 1-2 seconds later
start dragging slowly
the about 1 second before the end of your drag let up the button
then inhale

---
How I fill a cartomizer (Vapor4Life for KR8 or Boge 510 for 510 which are all soft-cap w/ no inner seals and defined central air channel)

I use thin (20% or less VG) liquid or Vapor4Life WOW liquids, preferably clear liquids w/ no sediment

Filling a blank carto - I pop off the soft cap (unbent paperclip carefully in the mouth hole, not catching any wires or stuffing!). I hold some tissue against the threaded end hole. I tilt the carto and slowly drip 18 drops onto the inner wall of the carto so it slides down into the stuffing while I rotate the carto. Then I wait 15 seconds or so then I drip however many more drops the stuffing wants to soak up. Then I do clean-up. If it is leaking, I clean that up. Then I tilt the open end down into the tissue and puff hard a few times into the threaded end to clear any juice out of the central air channel (I want to see light through there). If it looks too wet above the stuffing, I gently touch a bit of tissue to the stuffing (otherwise that liquid will be gurgling or spitting in my mouth). Then since this was a fresh fill of a blank, I now let it settle. I lay the carto on different sides for 15-20 minutes. Then it should be ready to vape. If you use thicker juices than me, then you may need to let it settle longer.

As I am vaping - if the vapor gets a bit light or a bit dry or tastes bit off or the carto is getting unusually warm, I will take the carto off the battery, open it, add 6-8 drops or whatever it seems to want (I will either hold a bit of tissue against the threaded end hole just in case, or skimp on how many drops I add to make sure I avoid drips if I have no tissue). I check to make sure the threaded end is dry, give it a couple of puffs into the threaded end to make sure the air channel is clear, and continue to vape.

Note - it is easy for me to "open" my main cartos for adding juice because I replace the white end cap with a plastic or delrin drip tip (I get them at LiteCigUSA.net). So I can easily pull that out with my fingers when I add juice and it keeps my lips cool if the carto is hot.

You need backups for everything just in case something stops working...unless you have a really good vaping vendor in your back yard, you have to order pretty much everything. That takes time...time that you cannot vape. Then you may end up reaching for analogs while you wait for your shipment. It's pretty important to have some kind of backup plan for those times. I have 4 PVs and enough supplies to last a full month in case something goes bad with my primary setup. By the way...I learned this the hard way! :(

Try holding the button down for 4-5 seconds before taking a drag. It will warm your juice and you'll get a more satisfying hit. That Torque 56 is pretty strong. Whew! I hated it the first vape. I'm glad I kept it though. When I have that "I want a real cigarette" feeling, Torque 56 is one of my two go-to liquids for a couple of toots.

You'll need some backup supplies. A low resistance (LR) atomizer is good to have and one can last a month or more. It gives a stronger vape, like vaping at high voltage. Very nice. Also some regular Boge and LR cartomizers. The LR cartomizers will give you a warmer, cigarette-like vape. There should be some smokin' deals coming for Labor Day. I like to watch the Deals and Steals thread. http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/pay-forward-pif/85781-deals-steals.html You can save a lot shopping the sales (or spend too much on goodies) :) Have fun!

Looks like you got a great kit. The atomizers that come in ANY of the Fat Batt kits kinda suck. Get better ones for a heightened, more enjoyable vaping experience.

Yes, but what will you do if you have a hardware (PV) failure? Say the button goes south on your battery (assuming you only have one...some kits come with two.) See where I'm going with this? I was raised by a computer systems guru. "Triple redundancy" runs in my blood.

I only have 2 PVs and a 5V PT. The eGo is my main piece, and I have 7 batteries in rotation. I had 8 batts, but the 1100 mah bit the dust. I also have 3 chargers, in case one or two quit. I haven't counted cartos and attys since I've switched to the eGo Mega Dual Coil Cartomizer, aka emdcc. My liquid supply usually doesn't fall below 60ML.
