So yesterday I managed to kill both of my Riva 510 batteries. I was using Boge 2.0 LR cartos. I came across a very good thread here and from my understanding, basically there is no safe "traditional" un-modded e-cig that is really safe to use with LR cartos.

I had the Riva about 2 months and in that time experienced what seemed like an excess amount of faulty/burned-out cartos. Idk how much of this has to do with the Riva/LR carto pairing, but it seems like the problems may be related.

However, I much prefer the LR cartos to standard ones when they are working properly. That said, I am worried about blowing up a battery in my face, and the risk/reward ratio isn't there for me if this pairing is considered unstable.

So I'm looking for a new setup. I would prefer that it involve a minimal amount of modding, and even better if it requires no modding at all. However, I am willing to do what I have to in order to get that same LR throat hit and vapor production safely.

I don't care if it looks like a traditional e-cig or some alien contraption, I just want to get back to enjoying my vaping. However, it needs to be portable so that I can take it around with me.

So what are my best options here given what I said? I would like to keep the start-up kit under $100. Also, I still have about six LR Boge cartos and 8 dual coil 510 cartos, so it would be nice if whatever I got could utilize these parts, although I am willing to eat the cost of these parts or sell them on the forum in order to get me into the right setup.

So what's the best route for me here?

I am very happy with my epower and my Resurrector cartos. The Resurrectors are 1.7 ohm and work great on the epower. And the battery is a separate item on the epower so if one dies, you just pop in another, although I have been using the epower with the same 4 rotating batteries since August....and I do vape a lot.

I recommend a Riva Indulgence V3. It's not proprietary like the Riva's you had. The batteries are replaceable and the mod still usable. Here is the link to it...Mods

If you don't want to use it at 6V, all you need to get are a couple of AW 18650 batteries and a charger which can be bought at ww.rtdvapor.com.

What is really nice about this mod is that it's all mechanical so no more worrying about frying a switch.

I have the E-Power myself(bought from crystalclearvaping.com) and it has been flawless...hard to beat for the price...having said that, there have been recent problems with the switches when using below 2ohm cartos and such...because of that, I would endorse the Indulgence as well...with 18650 batts, you can use all the LR gear you presently have............

You're batteries should still be under warranty.

I've never had an ego battery that lasted less than 6 months with the exception of a couple I got at Mad Vapes. I've only used LR cartos since the day I started vaping.

Definitely get a mod if that's what you want but I don't think it's particularly common for batteries to last 2 months.

Idk.. the indugence was my first tube mod and I have no complaints except it is not a durable mod by any means very thin aluminum but I had a v2, now for under a 100, never used one but also never have I herd one complaint about one, is the The "Chuck" very durable...or a Roughstack both nice good 3.7v devices with a nice price and good word of mouth reviews here on ecf....check out the suppliers forums at the bottom of the forum page....just my :2c:

I agree that rivas/egos should last a lot longer. You should call your seller. I had 4 rivas last a year.

However if you want to up the ante-the maxi roughstack, IMHO is the way to go. 45 bucks (or you could get the mini) from madvapes. Its cheap-nice looking and reliable. The maxi takes either 2X 16340 3V (tenergys are cheap and come with a charger-a total of 20 bucks). Then you could vape at 6V with great TH and dual cartos-which blow the taste of LRs away. You could also get 2X 18350 3.7V if you want to vape at 7V which is great with 3.0 ohm dual cartos.

Finally if you went with the little mini (also 45 bucks) you would get 18350s, vape at 3.7 V and still use your LR cartos. Good luck.

Go with a mod, or anything with a replacable battery. (Research them well). Talk to savy users on here regarding reliable mods & vendors.
Not all $100, or even $200 mods are all they are cracked up to be. Trust me.

Vendors & mods id trust most from experience include.......
Reosmods.com
Notcigs.com
Supertmanufacturing.com

Hmmm, well I will def give Liberty Flights a call and see about getting the batteries replaced. Either way, I still wasn't totally happy with the setup as it made some of my juices taste amazing, but also made many of my tobacco juices taste like crap.

The indulgence and the Maxi Roughstack are both in my price range and seem like good options. Does anybody have any strong feelings about one of these units over the other?

My take about those failing batts is that they cant endure heat from your attys/cartos/clearos/whatever;

In fact, rare are the electronics that like heat....granted,some might be more prone to failure then others, but why?

Maybe a simple fix like adding a little extension (say,a 510/510 adaptor) would help keep the brunt of the heat away from the batteries or maybe better heat monitoring from your part!

Anyways,I am sure you guys get where I am going with this...evidently,heat is a problem with our devices...gotta find ways to keep it away one way or the other.

Any clearomizers with the wick at the top should lessen those bad experiences like A LOT...attys/clearos etc with wicks at the bottom/near/against the batteries junctions are prone to leading to failure...specially if you cant let the damn thing cool down :)

...if I were choosing between the two, I would go with the RoughStak...heavier duty, can add the short body for more options, replaceable switch, and not mention, a choice of colors..........

p.s. FYI, I don't own or have seen either.............mj

Where would be the best place to order all this stuff from? I'd prefer to order it all from one place, and the only place I see that carries the RoughStack is madvapes.

Also, what is the difference b/w the regular Roughstack and the Maxi RoughStack?

Also, what would be the difference between the vape using 6v and using 7.4v? Would the 7.4v be hotter and give more throat hit? I NEED th :vapor:

What would be the recommended cartomizer/battery pairings for this mod to provide max. th and flavor? I know you said the 6v paired with a dual coil was great. However, when I was using the dual coils on my Riva I couldn't get a very satisfying vape and much preferred the LR cartos. Will this change b/c of the 6v charge?

Lastly, what battery manufacturers/dealers are considered good? I tried to look up Tenergy but I couldn't find the battery sizes I would need.

The Rough Stack is MV's mod... many of the mods are exclusive to one place. Fortunately, they also have batteries. If you're sticking with 2 ohm cartos, I'd say stay with the 3.7v battery (18650). You do make things hotter with more voltage (and lower resistance) but if you get too much voltage you'll burn your juice and/or fry your carto.

6v and dual coils would work as well, though it will be a pretty warm vapor.

I think want to go the 6v and dual coil route. I like a warm vapor and th as long as it doesn't ruin the taste as was sometimes the case with my 510/LR carto pairing.

The problem is that I can't figure out which batteries and cartos these would be on the madvapes website :(

Thanks. Those have pretty horrific reviews from users on madvapes website :O

Yes they do. I bought some anyway and they seem to be recharging alright. The one problem I have with them is that they are protected and have a nipple, so when stacked they don't fit in all of my mods. You could always shop around for some AW IMR versions. Just make sure you get the 3.0 (sometimes they're 3.2) volt versions and not the 3.7 volt models.
