Thanks everyone. I figured it was toast. Will buy another express kit so I have a backup again. Lying is bad karma--if I sent it back to the supplier with a lie attached I'd probably kill the new one too, LOL!

Good on you! It's so nice to see someone who takes responsibility, even if it was a mistake! You win 10 internet points today! I think we have all done something silly like that at one point or another :) live and learn

My advice is leave it in the rice for a week or so. I know you will be tempted to see if it works a few days later but it is best to just leave it alone in the rice for a week or so without testing it in the mean time. Our daughter cell phone fell in a river along with her in the winter through ice breaking. Luckly she was fine and the phone did come back to life but after 6 months it started to act up because some spots where still wet inside and created rust that ended up spreading through the phone. However we didn't leave it in for the whole week. I would try the rice but order a new one because it may end up working but not for long.

I wouldn't even have gotten so far as to debate whether or not to be honest. I would have immediately accepted the device as destroyed and chalked it up to "just my luck" and ordered another...

Yeah, that's basically what I did, too, Jay-dub. When I was about 6 yr old, I swiped two little china figurines from the 5 &10 while my mom was otherwise occupied. When I got home (undetected) and took them out to play with them, my mom knew I was a little thief and took them from me. She put them on the top shelf of our china cabinet where I could see but not touch. They followed us to every house until I graduated from high school, LOL. So I learned honesty at a young age!!

That is sweet, John, but I really am okay. A new starter kit wasn't that much $$. I just learned to watch what I am doing a little more closely, so just a little life lesson. Still learning them, I guess.

You know when I insisted that you give me the address because I wanted to send you something little.

I ordered something for you. :) I didn't have a proper name to put on the delivery address so it is addressed to your username. :)

I never thought about my name..but I get stuff addressed to my dogs, so it should get here, LOL. You really didn't need to send a thing. I am kind of amazed that everyone thought it was a big deal to be honest, since I guess I assume 99% of the folks I share the planet with are honest (minus the criminals, of course).

I wouldn't say 99% but I do know many honest people, who might fudge a little if encouraged and many that won't. Keep your integrity and your vv3. Just put it aside for a couple of weeks or months to let it air out. It's best if you don't try chargin or usin it in a wet condition. I too dropped a cell phone in the toilet and it failed. I tried it about four months later and it works perfect now. p.s. Way to go JJoohhnn:)

Honesty is becoming rare. :(

I was very proud when some were suggesting you be dishonest and you took the moral high ground.

The difference with a cell phone is the removable battery. If you drop a cell phone in water, you have a chance to save it by immediately removing the battery and drying it all out ASAP. Since you basically just dropped a battery itself into water - chances are slim that it will work again. But you can always try - place the thing in a sealed container of rice and DO NOT try to see if it works for at least 24 hours. If you still get nothing after that - it's most likely dead.

But hey, if you're in a moral dilemma here you could always talk to the manufacture and explain what happened. Who knows, maybe they'll be in high spirits due to the holidays and send you out another. Though to be honest, I don't see that actually happening :(

Not all cel phones have removable batteries these days (HTCone, LGG2 for example) and I have seen some revived but as you said.......they did not fiddle with it after swimming and let it dryout for days in rice.
