I have several posts about my journey to find a juice and set up that works for me. After my last post and great responses I headed to a third vape shop with plans of buying a cartomizer instead of clearomizer. My hope was that I could find something that works great with vg juice and doesn't burn coils in a day. I was instead told to try the kanger protank 3. Other customers there and salesman insisted it was the way to go. Of course the other four tanks I have bought were also the "best" according to those that sold them to me.

So protank 3 doesn't leak like the other kanger I had. It started out great. The flavor was awesome. Good amt of vapor. All was well. But darn it of the coils aren't burning out in 1-2 days. And that isn't even 1-2 days of continuous vaping. I am still smoking cigs as well so I really only use the ecig for a half hour 2-3 times a day. After 1-2 days I get an intense burning/heat and lack of flavor or burnt taste. It is making me crazy.

I tried soaking/dry burning. No help. The only fix is to clean the whole tank and start fresh with new atty etc. I am spending a small fortune. And I just can't get it right. I know vg juices burn out quicker but I have used higher pg mixes and had the same result. Initially I thought it was more a reaction to the pg which is why I switched to vg. Now I see it is just burning out attys in record time. I don't know what else to do.

I hear you. A lot of us have tried every new clearo/carto that has come out. If you had been around years ago people were using tea bags in their cartos. With ecigs one size does not fit all. It takes trial and error with different type batteries and juice delivery devices to find what works for you. I am one who never could deal with the protanks, too airy for me. I was a vivi nova lover. Now I have found the kayfuns which might be a replacement. It takes trial and error and can be expensive at the start. I would suggest another type of clearo. There are numerous videos on youtube that can teach you how to rebuild your protanks. They can be used over and over if you take the time to learn how.

VG is much worse on coils the PG, Are you chain vaping? I can get coils to last for weeks on my premade set ups. IMO the best way actually the only way to clean premade coils good enough is to remove the wick fire the unit till the coils glow then stick the coils under water fast, (just the coil) doing this a couple times will have your coils looking like new, then wash the wick out under running water reinstall it dry burn and refill with juice. what battery mod are you using and what settings ?

I burn through coils fast too but I don’t really care anymore. You could run 2 or 3 tanks and change less often. That’s what I do. At home I run a Kanger PT2 single coil with an Aerotank base and a Kanger Aerotank dual coil, both on innokin mods. At work I use about a tank full (2 to 2.5ml) during the day on a Vision vivi nova mini and an ego bat. If I was running just one tank it would be about a coil ever one or two days.
I like to think about it this way – a coil cost me about as much as 5 real cigarettes – when I think about it like that I quickly get over it. Buy in bulk!

A couple things may be causing your issue...1... how often you "hit", I know I have seen people take hits one right after the other in which does not allow the liquid to get absorbed by the wick. This is even more a problem with a cartomizer versus a clearomizer. The cart has small wicks with less exposure to juice, the clearo has long wicks actually sitting in the juice. And if you use a high VG, which is a thicker juice it takes even longer to allow the wick to re saturate.

2....the power used, but I doubt this is an issue for you if you are using a fixed battery such as an Evod or Kanger starter battery style...now if you are using a VV/VW mod then perhaps lowering the wattage/voltage may help.

Don't get caught up in the style of atty used, just because a certain atty is all the rage does not means it is the best for you to use. Try a Vision V Fate or a slim Vivi Nova in a single coil at 2.0 to 2.4ohm. the coils now are dirt cheap, easier to clean and actually sit in the juice to aid in absorption....and they are cheaper is the moral here! Even a CE4/5 clearo that has replaceable coils may get you a better result at less cost and allow you to learn where your "sweetspot" is, then move onto more advanced tanks etc.

BTW.... I have a CE5 coil in use for the last 6 weeks, a few cleanings/dry burns all for less than 2 bucks!....And I chain vape:D

Mate.

I'm with you. ALL I wanted was two things

1. A tank that's not leaky, fussy, burnt
2. Replaceable coils.

I've gone through a LOT of different combos.. I've finally landed at what I think it's the least fuss-filled vape life I can dream of:

Innoking iTaste MVP v2 + Aerotank v2

Simply put? No fuss. Good taste. No leaky bs. No cloudchasing either, but I just want my nic hit, good vapor and no bs. This combo does that.

Try it if you have the budget. It's very good.

Wow. I have never had that problem with the mini Protank3. Are your coils "genuine Kanger?" I have heard of some bad Kanger coils going around. What type of battery are you using? Maybe the voltage is too high?

I don't vape 100% VG because it gunks up my coils too quickly. I have found that my 70/30 pg/vg mix is much easier on my coils. I don't know what else to suggest. Keep with it, an answer will come along...

One thing that can affect your coil life is the eliquid you use. The darker and tobacco flavors tend to destroy a coil much quicker.

An easy fix you can try is to take a couple primer hits about every 5 pulls. Just take a puff without hitting the fire button, this will draw in extra eliquid to keep the coil wet. If the coil gets too dry it will gunk up and burn.

I have a similar set up, and I'm very, very pleased with it. I use the MVP 2 and Smok Tech Pyrex Aro tanks. Good flavor, no leaks, no gurgles, and the replacement coils only cost $1.34 if you buy 10 or more. I don't vape any dark or thick juice, use the 80pg/20vg blend, and the coils last a long time before I need to replace them. I don't clean or dry burn, just replace.

In my opinion, the best ways to enjoy a high vg juice is a carto or dripping. Honestly, unless you're going to dilute the vg with distilled water or alcohol, it's just too thick for any sort of clearo or tank. It won't wick right.

Is there a reason you're going with 100% vg? If you don't have a sensitivity to pg, you might want a mix out. I find 50/50 to be just right. Or get some cartos and dripping attys.

Genuine, packaged coils are not always the best. Whenever I use a new Kanger coil, the first thing I do is replace the wicks. I also check the coil, if it's not good, I build a new one and replace it. This may not be what you want to hear, but building your own coils is the way to go. That way you can experiment with different wicks and get something that works well. In the long run, it's well worth it.

As to why you're having trouble, it could be a number of things. I had the same issues when I started vaping. As has been said, trial and error. Try a thinner, (PG), liquid, give time for more liquid to soak the coil between vapes, don't let the wick go dry. I don't know what setup you have, but a vv/vw battery would sure help out. Start on a low setting and slowly work up.

Even if you bought a starters kit that was recommended by many as 100% trouble free, there's a good chance you'd still find some trouble or limitation somewhere down the line.

Unfortunately this is just the way it is. Vaping is not just a science, to some extent it's also an art. There is so much going on every time you press that fire button. I've been vaping for one year, and there are still some very basic things that I'm learning. It may seem like an unnecessary hassle, but the rewards far out way any temporary frustration.
Even with zero nicotine, vaping can be a very satisfying experience. Just don't give up :toast:

It might be that you allow your coils to get so gunked up that it becomes very difficult to dry burn them clean. Try cleaning/dry burning them after each tank and see if the burned taste goes away. Also, give some serious thought to learning how to rebuild your coils. They taste better, are hugely cheaper and you can have loads of them on hand.

I've never used Protanks, but I have a few other clearos extensively.

Your coils are not burning out, they are getting gunked up and it's normal. I agree with peraspera, dry burn often so the coils and wicks don't get too bad. I do this after every couple of tanks with Vivi Novas and you can do this many times with a head. It can take 5 or more minutes of dry burning to get them clean if they are good and dirty.

Don't stop until you see all the coils glow. Also, don't overheat the device when you do this. If you can't comfortably hold it because it's too hot, you need to wait a few minutes until it cools down and then resume.

I never soaked a head, dry burning is just too easy once you get it figured out :)

Best of luck with it!

You've already received some good advice so this may be repetitive of some of the previous comments.

I use vg liquid as well and back when I used the protank 2, I found that the rate of absorption took longer. My remedy was to put a few drops of liquid on the wicks (priming) before screwing the atomizer into the tank base. Then, I filled the tank and let it sit maybe 3-5 minutes. That helped prevent getting dry or burnt hits.

There will be some trial and error with vaping. The key is to keep trying and eventually you'll find the right equipment and method that works best for you. Hopefully this helps, so hang in there and good luck.

Live well, Love much, Laugh often and Vape on.

if the OP wishes to use clearos, then that's the best option. There are plusses and minuses to both a kayfun and a clearomizer. Put it this way, I put one of my KFL clones on an EGO battery... it was WAY top heavy. KFLs need a 22mm mod to be balanced enough. So, my mini protank goes on the Ego battery, and the kayfuns I use from time to time when I don't want to dedicate one of my main atomizers to a new juice.

I don't dislike the Kayfuns either, they're great atomizers. It's just they don't make a glass version, and I mainly vape citrus/tank cracking juices. So, for me, it has to have glass. So, my atomizers of choice are Mini protank II for my ego battery, Squape for my regulated mod, and Fogger V4 for my Caravella.

in the storage bin: 2 kayfun lites, Aga T2, i-atty, Phoenix style RBA, Nimbus.
