My mom and dad quit smoking 9 years ago. When I visit, I smoke outside and the folks never 'pressured' me to quit, but wanted me to. They saw me go thru all the options.. pills, patches, gums, lozenges, cold turkey... and it never worked.

Then when I told them about hubby and I vaping... they were of course skeptical. :)

Two and a half months later, Hubby and I were at Golden Corral celebrating Mom and Dads wedding anniversary and my mom tells me to go ahead and vape after dinner. Right in the middle of the restraunt! She took pictures and everything LOL

The poor waiter made so many trips by our table trying to see what it was... i was using my new go-go so it was obviously not a cigarette.

I love the support!!!!

Just had to share :p

My father, an ex-smoker, usually had some choice comments about my smoking habits. Probably because I gave him grief when I was younger, yet I slipped into smoking as well. Last weekend he came by, saw me vaping and asked about it. He knew I had been trying to quit for years, off and on. His response? "Whatever works and keeps you off cigarettes." From my dad, that's a big deal. He leans towards the negative on just about any comment, so in my view, this is acceptance and a positive.

Grats to you too!

I'll give you two thumbs up :thumb: :thumb:. One for the Family Support and one for Golden Coral ! That's My Favorite place to go !

Well, That and this Little local buffet called the Louisiana Purchase Kitchen. It's a good ole southern Cajun style seafood buffet. For about 10 bucks you can eat all you want fried catfish, red beans and rice, gumbo, fried chicken, crawfish and a ton of other awesome seafood. Here's a link to the menu.. so ya'll can drool LOL http://a1.urbns.pn/w/s/pw/sj7QePgWvbqggi-100c.jpg

Anyway, I know what ya mean about family support. Mom has been after me to quit for 22 years. nothing worked. She's so happy that I switched to vaping, I can vape in her house, car, at the dinner table, and she even samples my juice flavors (in cloud form when I blow it out). Used to be, " Don't you dare come in my house with that nasty cigarette!" Now it's " I don't care where you smoke that thing as long as your not smoking cigarettes".

That's really great MrsDash. My Mom and my sister are very supportive. I haven't been to see them since I started vaping but I know they are glad. I have gotten emails from my niece and nephew telling me how glad they are I quit smoking.

I do have one uncle I'm not sure about. He quit cold turkey many years ago and at the next family gathering I know he's going to ask me when I plan to give up "that thing". Well maybe.

But it will be fine. Even if I tell him I don't plan to.

all my family is supportive also but i do seem to get the question of when will i give up vaping or getting bugged about stepping down my nicotine.. somehow from the people you would least expect. my probation officer and my girlfriends mom.. it's kinda weird

That is kinda weird. My Mom actually told me it doesn't matter if I ever give it up or not. She actually brought it up. And she's no spring chicken. But a pretty damn neat lady.

The support of my family means a lot because many of them have stopped smoking long before I did. I was actually the only one still smoking for the past 10 or so years. And they see this as valid. I actually had a little concern about that myself at first. Probably just because it was so easy for me to quit smoking.

But that one Uncle is the one I would hide my "going outside" from. I think that means his opinion is very important to me. But he's a great guy and has been a great support to me my entire life so I'm sure it will be fine.

You're lucky. My mum would probably freak out if she saw me vaping. She thought I quit ages ago, but it's only been a week. My boyfriend is happy that I quit, but is not impressed that I vape so much and thinks I should drop it and switch to gums, as this is how he quit. But I love vaping and I don't want to quit anytime soon.

Well thanks for that now I'm completely starving!

All we've had is support, I come from a big family, I'm the youngest of 6, it's an odd thing, but we all have smoked and now all have quit.

My three brother and one of my sisters did the cold turkey thing and have been stopped for, well, all over 10 Years and the two babies of the family (me and my sister, I am using babies in the loosest terms I'm 46 she is 51) have stopped using PV's.

I've not had any negative comments at all.

I LOVED reading ya'll stories! My Dad mentioned to me that he wished he would have known about PV's when he quit smoking. He struggled with the cold turkey and he was one that truly truly loved to smoke. My dad is very much like an old cowboy, and the cigarette dangling from the corner of his mouth will always be reminiscent of my childhood. He told me last night that even though he LOVED to sit next to me when I smoked so he could get a whiff... he LOVES the smell of my Malibu Pineapple vape even more! LOL

These stories are great, I have the opposite going on. My wife, who still smokes basically considers me having not quit at all. She's one of those that feel that only when you are completely free of nicotine are you no longer smoking types. I tried explaining everything, and to her credit she's not quite so on me about it, but it's still very frustrating.

Like many of us, I've tried everything conceivable to quit over a number of years, now that I found something to see it so easily dismissed frustrates me to no end. Alas, I've decided calling her a hypocrite and storming out the door is probably not in my best interest. I still hold some hope that eventually I can turn her around when she finally realizes sheer stubbornness won't really help her quit after all :)
