Hi fellow vapers. Following the publication, March 28, 2017 in the Daily Mail, outlining my research into the effects of vaping on my lungs, I was invited to join NN Alliance at the 4th Global Forum on Nicotine 2017 at the Marriot Hotel, Warsaw. On learning that Hon Lik would be present, my wish to meet him was granted.
Background ;
Smoked un-tipped, strong cigarettes for 69 years then was diagnosed with COPD, the disease that killed my only son at the age of 47. I then traded tobacco for e-cigs and stopped smoking in a week with no problem, other than finding a flavour, and nicotine strength that I enjoyed. I was pleased to find the American Reds at 18mg/l very enjoyable. I was ably assisted in my search by Jonny from ecigclick review site. On the web, I could not find details of the likely effect of vaping on my lungs, so arranged for annual lung function tests at my local surgery. On starting to vape my breathing rate was only 50% normal. It took 4 years to stabilise at 88%, resulting in me feeling fitter without breathing problems, and able to swim a length underwater. Of course this improvement was Not caused by vaping, but by stopping the use of tobacco. What I found significant was that vaping did not inhibit the bodies extraordinary recuperative powers, even after 69 years of abuse, and it is Never too late to stop smoking.
I was introduced to Hon Lik and explained that we had two things in common We both used e-cigs and both had lost close relatives to tobacco. He his father, and I my son.
I next told him of my journey through smoking and vaping. His parting line was " I think you will be the first vaper to reach 100"
Following his opening address, we were asked to go to the press room for a photo-op. About 8 photographers took the obligatory handshake, then one said "they should be vaping" so we withdrew our devices,and I said "Oh yours is longer than mine", which provoked much laughter, admirably caught in the photo, credited to Lukasz Bieniecki, the official photographer. I was then interviewed by eight foreign correspondents, thus ensuring that my message would be spread much wider than I could ever imagined , in my wildest dreams. That was a most surreal experience.
I never thought that I would ever get the opportunity to thank Hon Lik for improving the quality and length of my remaining years. Three days later as I left the for the airport, Paddy Costall, the Conference Director thanked me for attending and invited me back next year. Wow I felt so honoured. Terry Walker
