To start off, I have been vaping now for about 3 years. I started with the Blu and then discovered the eGo and CE4/CE5s and used those for quite awhile. I upgraded to a vv/vw twist style battery and a ProTank II and started rebuilding my own coils for it. I picked up an Innokin SVD to use with my Pro tank and that was fine.... for a little while. About 3 months ago I bought my first mech mod and dripper and started building coils on it. Recently I upgraded my dripper....well I upgraded everything and picked up an Infinite Stingray X, Infinite Magma, along with the CLT. I love them. Each has it's own particular situational use. I have read the information on battery safety and I am currently using Sony VTC4s. I have an ohmmeter to verify I have no shorts in my coils. I am currently running dual .8 ohm coils on the CLT with 26 gauge Kanthal, and a single .8 ohm coil on the Magma (the Magma gets really warm with dual .8 ohm coils). I have used organic cotton for all of my builds thus far and really have no experience with ss mesh or silica, but I am willing to learn. I love the RDA, but there are times where I believe it would be beneficial to have a RBA instead. What I really need to know is which ones I should look at, and any recommendations that you have. I really want something like this for when I am driving. I don't think the local PD will be happy with me dripping and driving. If possible I would like to find one that could lay at an angle to put in my tank bag on my motorcycle. Right now I keep the SVD and Pro Tank in the side pocket and can pull it out at stoplights and take a couple of drags. Any help or insight would be greatly appreciated

Your choices for a rebuildable tank atomizer will fall between two classes:

  • Kayfun-style - build deck below the tank; uses negative pressure to wick juice to the coil; can use cotton, rayon, or silica for wick; not position dependent like a Genesis-style tank, so is ideal for out-and-about use. Easier learning curve than a Genesis.

  • Kayfun-style RTA.jpgKFL+.jpgKayfun.jpg

  • Genesis-style - build deck is above the tank, so the wick is fighting gravity. You must tilt the tank horizontal for adequate wicking, and the tank may leak if not kept upright, therefore this is not an ideal out-and-about tank system. Designed to use stainless steel mesh as the wick, which I found to be undesireable to make and use. IMHO, a tank with a much higher learning curve.

+1,000,000 on a kayfun. Easy to build, fantastic vape; once the coil and wick is in place, very low maintenance; mainly just changing the wick when it starts tasting "burnt". How often depends on what wick you use; cotton needs changing the most frequently; silica probably the least often. Rayon is a marvelous compromise between the two; taste as good as with organic cotton, nearly as long-lasting as silica. You can put 'em in any position you want. You could vape hanging upside down from a tree. :D

I just went straight for a Russian 91% since they had just received black ones at the local shop when I made up my mind for an RBA. The more I learn, the more it seems to have been a great choice since a lot of Kayfun clones can be hard to differentiate as to who makes them and a lot of them seem to have their own shortcomings, small or big. It seems every employee at the vape shop here have converted to the Russian 91% and one of them told me I would be better off saving for a second Russian 91% or get a 30$ RDA if I really wanted a new toy right now as the Kayfun clone they carry isn't all that good. Just my experience, so YMMV.

I beg to differ. Gravity has never been an issue in my genesis tanks, and they wick beautifully, nor have I ever needed to tilt them to get a good vape. If my RSST is fighting gravity it's winning easily, so the gravity and tilting issues are just not true in my experience.

RBA - ReBuildable Atomizer. RDA - Rebuildable Dripping Atomizer. RTA - Rebuildable Tank Atomizer.
I love all my rbas (drippers and tanks) mostly I stick to drippers, but I have a Kayfun light + clone for when dripping isn't practical.
How often you need to rewick is largely based on the juice you use. I rewick every 2 or 3 tanks because I load my Kayfun with THICK DARK ejuice. It does "leak" occationally when the ambient temperature is hot or when I don't wick it properly... But usually only a few drops out of the airflow hole. Throw a small wrag under where it sits in your tank bag and it shouldn't be a problem.
Another rta that may be worth a look is the fogger v4.1, a lot of people really enjoy building on this over the Kayfun. I don't have one so I have no experience with it, but if I was in your situation, it seems like it would be worth look.
Good luck with your decision!
