I started vaping in 2014. Ex smoker. I learned what I needed to know to upgrade to a rebuild-able set up (thanks to this forum). I bought a TugBoat clone in 2015, making my own coils using 28GA wire, and have been doing that ever since. I am not hip to a lot of the newer atomizer designs and lingo that has evolved with vaping over the past 6 years, but from what I gather, I'm a MTL vaper. Recently my old clone has started leaking from the center post. I posted in the RDA section for recommendations.

See post here--> Help! Replacement Suggestions for OLD Tugboat Clone

I got a Hadaly RDA and a Haku Venna RDA and I'm not happy withe either of them. I'm used to a slightly deeper well in my old Tug Boat clone. Plus the vents are so low on the RDA's that they leak really easily.

So I'm thinking I need to try an RTA or RTDA.

So my point, finally, is that I need recommendations. Just keep in mind, I'm not a novice, but by no means an expert. lol

After some poking around with the google machine, I like the look of the Soulmate RDTA Pod for Drag S&X , but I have questions. Like can it be used on a regular mod or do I have to have a special one just for it? I have an AEGIS SOLO I bought about a year ago to replace the SIGELEI brick I'd been using since 2015.

Are there other RTAs or RTDAs anyone would recommend I take a look at?

Have a look at the Hellvape MD RTA. It has similar building posts to your tugboat, and can go from a restricted DL to MTL. An easy beginner RTA is also an Innokin Ares 2 RTA

Innokin ARES 2 24mm MTL RTA

    Hellvape MD 24mm RTA

@AliyaPlush, I beleive that you can use the VXV Soulmate pods with the Voopoo PnP pod adapters.

But could i ask if you want something that is Squonk compatable?

I had to google what squonk means. It was not a term used back when I started vaping. Things have seriously advanced in 6 years. lol If I understand it, I don't want to turn the bottle into a feeder. I want something a bit more simple. Like I said, I've been using an old Tug Boat, and I'm used to refilling the well several times a day. It is technically considered a dripper, but the well is deep enough, I can get a full vape session from it. Back when I started vaping, most tanks required manufactured coils, and those with rebuild-able coils were usually very leaky and didn't vape well.

Can I get the Voopoo PnP pod adapter without getting the tank that comes with it? Do you know if an adapter comes with the VXV Soulmate pod? I've seen at least 1 video review that says it can go on a threaded mod, but it didn't show how to do that.

Nope, I have not. I'll check them both out! Thanks. I have not looked at any tanks, atomizers, or anything in 5 years, so I have no clue what is out there.

EDIT: So I checked both of those out, Watched a couple videos, and my mind is blown. Amazing advancements in tank designs in the last 5 years! I like both of them a lot more than the Soulmate RDTA Pod. Thanks again, so much! I will probably get one of these two you suggested. Just have to decide what deck I like more.

Since you did so well recommending those, is there a certain wire gauge for coils you would recommend? I'm really good at making my own coils. Lots of practice from rolling my own tattoo machine coils. lol Compared to that, vape coils are easy peasy.

Sounds like a RTA or RDTA that is friendly with MTL is what you will want. Either will work. I greatly preferred the RDTA's that have a RDA type deck/air chamber with a tank below it over the RTA's with a chimney housing the build in the tank because they were much easier to build with none of wicking and leaking problems most of the RTA's had.

My favorite RDTA's were the Avocado's... I didn't really like any of the many RTA's much I bought (including the popular Serpent Mini's at the time (IIRC 3-4 years ago). The last RTA's I bought served me well though, Wotofo Profile Unity Mesh RTA's (have 6 of them).

26g round wire would work in either well. Or if you want something with a bit more oooomph:
Vandy Vape Superfine MTL Wire SPOOLS - 10 Feet
And choose MTL Spool - 5.35Ohm Ni80 Fused Clapton Wire or MTL Spool - 6.71Ohm A1 Fused Clapton Wire
    They are:
Vandy Vape Superfine MTL Fused Clapton Wire - 10 Feet
    Ni80 Material - 32GA*2/38GA - 5.35ohm / ft and
Vandy Vape Superfine MTL Fused Clapton Wire - 10 Feet
    Kanthal A1 Material - 32GA*2/38GA - 6.71ohm / ft

From what I've gleaned from the net @AliyaPlush, there's no adapter included with the VXV Soulmate.

And no worries, so any MTL capable RDTA is okay with you.

How tight an airflow would be okay with you and what kind of build deck would you like?

I vape mouth to lung, yes. Back when I started vaping, it was one size fits all. I have no idea what airflow fits how I vape though. Sorry. I have no idea what kind of deck I like either. Like my OP said, I've been vaping on a Tugboat clone since I started wrapping my own coils. I have no idea what is out there to compare decks with.

I really don't want a mesh coil, but thanks for the recommendations!

I have a 26g round, so I'll stick with that, but if it feels week in the new tank, I'lll try the 32g. Thanks for the link!

Note that the 32AWG above is 2 pieces of 32awg wrapped (like a guitar string) with 38AWG.
If you have some 32AWG already, a close approximation, without buying more wire, is to twist 2 pieces of 32AWG together and make a coil with the result.

    Have fun

I did try making some twisted and braided coils long ago. They looked good, but I didn't like how they vaped. Thanks for the warning though. I may have to order some just to test it out.
