hey all, i need your guys help a bit, i know that i need an ohm reader. i have vision spinner 2 (3.3v - 4.8v) and i have few kanger empty coil heads. my target ohm is around 2.1 to 2.6 resistance.

a) which kanthal wire(s) should i look for and how many wraps should i do?

b) what size of mm ekowool do i need to get? (from kidneypuncher.com.)

c) i have 16ga and 20ga blunt tip needles, which of the 2 blunt needles should i use for wrapping the coils?

edit: i forgot to put any links for diy flavorings?

Click on my first sig line hyperlink... Steam Engine will allow you to model all the coils you want, before committing wire to mandrel.

A Kanger head is tight, so 1mm ekowool... if that's what you want to use. You can always double it, which is actually easier than trying to thread 2mm through a coil.

I would recommend 30 awg kanthal, ~10-12 wraps.

Screw ekowool, use organic cotton (can be bought at CVS, walgreens, etc.)

As for the blunt tip needles... Get the largest one that will fit into the little slot in the Kanger head. I would recommend picking up a drill bit set and using those instead, though the 16g may work perfectly.

Oh, and DO NOT try to fire this head without either an ohm meter or multimeter to make sure there aren't any shorts, ESPECIALLY your first coil.

Hey brother, I've wrapped my Nautlius heads a few times in the past, and I'd suggest doing this.

Try wicking with cotton first, I guarantee it will wick better/faster, take it slow and raise the voltage taking smaller hits until you find out what the kanger limit is. For me I could take the nautilus up to 5 volts, and take decently long inhales without the start of a dry-hit.

A 20ga needle might be a little too small for a nice vape, I'd suggest a 1/16th" drill bit, or even the largest diameter you can fit, because they don't make eko-woll small enough to fit through a 20ga needle unfortunately :/. In fact it'd be really tricky to get ekowoll through even a 3/32nd's diameter coil, usually people wrap directly on to the stuff as the wrap guide itself.

That's why I suggest cotton, better flavor, faster wicking (as we know carto's can use sometimes), but perfect for any coil, because you make the perfect size for it. Personally that better wicking turned my Nautilus into a new animal, the flavor was almost too intense, I could double the voltage I normally used, as well as vape it harder. However you can't be totally ruthless with it, because if your not used to cotton, it is a little easier to burn. It won't go up in flames or anything, just caramelize easier.

Hope this helps man! I'd suggest good'ol 28ga kanthal, perfect size for that application. Here's a good wrapping technique, that's super easy, and I've found it makes perfect coils, here's a vid I made on tension wrapping.

On a 3.7v battery I prefer 32ga wire...it just heats up faster. It seems to me that the 28-30ga just takes too long to heat.

I wrap 6 wraps on a 1/16 inch drill bit...that size fits in the slot so that I can hold the coil in place while I work with the legs. That usually gets me 1.8-1.9 ohms.

Cotton wick is my preferred wick...just enough to easily pass thru the coil.

I agree with Danca90 and grimwald. With protank/CE5/etc, I don't go below 32 gauge. just too small of an area to worry about any higher gauge. I also agree on the cotton. HOWEVER, if you insist on using silica, I recomend NOT getting the Ekowool, and go with twisted. Ekowool is good for holding liquid, but it's too tightly wound to wick fast enough. 3.0mm twisted is fine for a single wick, 2-3 1mm wicks will do fine also. if you do have some ekowool laying around, use 2mm and below.

As far as the wraps, I can't tell you offhand how many for what gauge. when I wrap mine, I use a specific screwdriver and a meter. I wouldn't do it without a meter, since you can short the wire in areas you can't visibly check. I wouldn't coil without some way to check for shorts.

I rebuild my wife's PT3 tanks w 30 gauge Kanthal. 10 wraps around a 14g needle gets me at 2ohm. I suspect 13-15 wraps around a 16g would get you to your target.

As others have recommended, use sterile cotton as your wick. Or even better, try rayon fiber. It's sold in beauty supply stores as cellucotton.

Oh, and forgot to mention, I recommend you torch the coil after you wrap it. Hold it between needle nose pliers and blowtorch it for 20seconds.

+1 +1 +1 +1

Especially Dissonance's last point. You can "think" you have it wrapped all pretty, but if you don't know there's a short, you're in for a world of hurt.

I rebuilt with 32 gauge kanthal for months and eventually got tired of the 32 distorting, bending and loosing its shape after time and rewicking. I use 30 gauge now and get more life out of my protank coils. The 30 gauge is a bit thicker and holds its shape better. 6 wraps on a 1/16 gets me 1.4 ohms and that produces a nice vape for me.
