1. When the flavor starts to change, I dry-burn the coil to remove gunk and replace the wick.

2. You don't have to, but you'll notice the old flavor for a while. If this doesn't bother you, don't bother.

3. Yes. Keep in mind that it'll take a few drags to evaporate the water out of the wicks and introduce e-liquid to the coil. Replacing the wick is probably faster and easier.

If you are talking about the stock coils, they come with a silica wick. You can pull the stock wick out and replace it with cotton. I've never rewicked a stock coil so I don't know how easy or hard it is.

However I do rebuild my all my Kanger heads with a 1.4mm 30 gauge kanthal microcoil wicked with sterile cotton. The flavor is so much better!

Oh yeah one more thing... Don't dry burn a cotton wick!! You will burn it!! You can dry burn the stock silica wicks though.

Hi... I'm kinda new myself but this is what I've noticed.

1: As previously said, when the taste of the vape changes. Some liquids are easy on coils/wicks and you can refill 4 or 5 times before you need to change a wick. Some flavors (coffee flavors for me) need to be re-wicked after the first or second tank.

2: Similar flavors usually do okay. I went from banana cream to orange cream this morning. The banana was already a softer flavor, so after 20 minutes or so I only tasted the orange. Going from coffee to berry blast probably wouldn't work so well.

3: Washing isn't worth the time, IMO. There's virtually no expense in changing (cotton) wicks and it's just as fast to re-wick.

1. how long am i supposed to switch to a new cotton wick? Time is relative. If you start getting a burnt taste, notice a change in the flavor or it's not wicking properly, it is time for a change.

2. do i have to change the cotton wick if i want try different flavors? (example green apple to cotton candy.) Cotton hold flavors, so if you vape one after the other it will take awhile for the second flavor to become predominant over the last one. If the flavors don't complement each other, you will likely need to use different heads. You don't have to change the wick if there's nothing wrong with it, just put the head aside for the next time you want to vape that flavor.

3. can i just wash the cotton wick instead then dry it out and put it back into place? No. Cotton wicks are just tiny little pieces. When they stop working they are toast.

any help will do, thank you.

Have you used a bottom-coil clearo before?

Hi, and welcome to ECF!

Good choices for starting - although you'll soon find that you need at least two of everything. One to use while one is charging, and sometimes things fail (or we break them :) ) Don't want to be without the means to vape.

At this point, I'd recommend you just get some spare heads / coils for your mini PT2. You want to get comfortable with your setup before you start modifying stuff. The factory heads come wicked with silica, and with proper care can last a long time. So no need to rush into rebuilding.

Cruise ECF and utube for the procedure to clean and dry burn the coils. Simple to do, and returns them (usually, and if done right) to factory performance. And removes all traces of the previous flavor.

You can vape a flavor until the vape starts to fade off. Then it's time to clean / dry burn, or replace the head. Some flavors will gunk the coil in just a few fills, some will go a long time between cleanings. There's no really good average that can be given.

In general, a thorough cleaning under hot running water will get rid of most of the previous flavor, but not all. For that, you need to clean and dry burn. But going from the cotton candy to hawk sauce would probably be ok. From light / sweet to a heavier flavor isn't a bad transition. The other way, well, you might not get the new flavor for some time :)

You'll probably find the the flavor wicks - the two loose strands under the chimney - are not reuseable. They do have to come out to dry burn. I usually just replace them with a strand of 100% cotton yarn. Or you can tease out some cotton from sterile cotton balls, swabs, or whatever. Just note the size of the flavor wicks and make a loose roll of cotton about the same size. Too much and you'll choke the flow, causing dry hits. Too loose, and the PT will probably leak.

And don't forget to rinse the tube while you're cleaning :)

(Also, MBV mixes when you order, so they will need some steeping time. It can make a BIG difference in flavor!)

You beat me, except for #3. Do you really wash your cotton wicks? How? Why?

i have never used one and i dont know what that is.

The Kanger mini you ordered is a bottom-coil device. That means that the heat coil that vaporizes the liquid is located at the bottom of the tank. There are a couple of different version, but what you get will be similar to this:

The little things on the right on the "heads." The coil and the wick are inside the heads. You can buy the heads separately and change them when you need to - they just screw in. You don't have to rebuild/re-wick anything.

IIRC, the PT 2 mini uses the dual coil head - the two on the right in the pic - which may look a bit different.

Mini Protank 2's use the Kanger Single Coils, the new Mini Protank 3's take the Dual Coils.

I agree, enjoy your new setup and get the experience for a while before learning how to rebuild. BUT when you do want to, rebuilding Kanger coils is pretty easy with the right tools and practice. I made a brief two part tutorial on how to rebuild Kanger Dual Coils into Single Microcoils, click on the blue "2" next to Blog Entries under my avatar if you want to check out what tools I use and how I do it.
