I need some coil and wick placement ideas for non-leaking AFC use

I seem to have an issue with AFC's and massive leaking out of the air-holes.

I used to have a couple of Cyclone AFC's and everyone of them, no matter how I set them up, they would leak almost every time I squonked. A couple of weeks ago, I got the Odin. My first setup was great, no problems but with my second build I get major leaking most the time when I squonk. I have pushed the coils down into the chamber more as well as tried to move the wicking away from the outside wall but still get leaking through the air-holes on the AFC cap. What are you all doing to enjoy these AFC's? The leaking is very frustrating and I don't want to use them when they leak.

Pics of your setup that don't leak? Tips?

This was a super fast setup as I was pressed for time, but here's my Odin. No leaks unless I lay it down on it's side. I might get a tiny little bit of condensation now and then, but no leaks. Are you over squonking?

Edit: I do occasionally get leaking on my Cyclone AFC, but I'm pretty sure that's my fault. Squonking too hard or too often, because most of the time, it's fine.

Cliven,

Are they leaking when you squonk or after? From the tank or 510 connection?

I had the same promlem and I wasn't getting a good seal on my bottle. Did you look at your o-ring when you put on a fresh bottle?

The vacuum has to be good or you will get leaks.

During the squonk. Leaking out of the AFC air holes. I did have an issue with it not squonking when I first got my Divo, changed out the bottle and all was good. I only get leaking with my AFC's and it is through the air holes.

Another thing that comes to mind besides over squonking is too much wick clogging up the cups and not letting the drain holes do their job.

Take a peek with the cap off. If the juice is staying in the atty, your holes are blocked with wick or you've got a vapor lock - just unscrew the bottle and put it back on. That should cure the "vapor lock"

Sounds like an inadvertent oversquonk. I'd suggest wicks that just touch the base and don't touch the cap (I agree with the cap juice creep mentioned above), and a lighter squonk that gets to the wicks, but not to the air holes (or the coils, if they are hole height). Also, upright (not tilted) squonking.

I used to squonk until juice made contact with the coil and, on occasion, suffered the kind of leaking you describe.

With the AFC Cyclone the holes are offset to one side just a bit (not directly across from one another). Try tilting the atty slightly when you squonk so the air holes are slightly on the high side.
With the Odin just remove the cap and watch how much you squonk and stop just before you get to the air holes. You'll just have to get the feel of how hard to press and also how long to hold the press. Muscle memory will develop.

Thanks for all the input Fellow REOnauts. I find it funny as here I have been using my REO's for about a year and I need to 'learn how to squonk' again. LOL. I have been using nothing but the RM2 and Cyclone till now. That's probably my problem is the squonking and making sure my cotton isn't excessive and touching the sides. I'll have to rebuild and play soon.

I love micro coils with 2mm RxW in my small chamber RBAs like Chalice, divo RM2 etc.. Those coils perform best when saturated with a good squonk every 3 or so hits. I tried the same thing in the Odin and had the problem of leaking out the air holes.

On one of my orders for ready wick I screwed up and ordered 3mm wick. So I just re-coiled the Odin with 2.5mm coils instead of 1/16 and 3mm wick instead of 2mm. Now I can just squonk enough to get the bottom of the wicks wet and I get like 7 or more lung hits between squonks with no leaking.
