My sister-in-law wants to get an e-cig kit for her husband. It has to be a mini-cig, automatic, and have a good selection of prefilled carts. I've been looking around, but haven't found much.

If it were up to me, I'd recommend an ego type (probably the twist), but he's not going to fiddle with filling cartos, tanks or mess with e-liquid. Knowing him, he'll keep the same carto on until the filler is all burned up :). So while not optimal, it's what I need to find for him. If it's not as easy as grabbing an analog and lighting it up, he probably won't use it.

I don't particularly care what style threading is used. I'm really more concerned with the selection of prefilled cartos, the more flavors the better. He'll probably want to experiment with various tobacco, menthol and non menthol, but will probably want to try other non-tobacco flavors too. It would help if the kit and cartos come from the same website as they are both technologically challanged.

Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

The volt looks good, and there seem to be a good number of flavors. What thread pattern does the volt use?

I also found Halo. The cartos look very similar to the volt cartos. Are they compatible with the volt? I hear very good things about the Halo juices.

AFAIK, the Volt and Halo G6 are KR808D-types. I think Halo also has 510-types. 808s are regarded by many as the best cig-sized around.

themagicmist.com used to have a handy chart showing compatibility between major brands, but looks like they went to a 'wizard'-type thingy, now. You can still judge that by looking at the color of the carto package they sell for whatever brand you plug in there, though.

Look you have (well she has) basically two options:

1) Get the most reasonably priced super-mini e-cig with some prefilled cartos.. like a 510, 808 in a kit with 2 batteries and a charger. Volt counts here. Consider it as close to a disposable as you can get without it being a disposable. It's a close-to-disposible since you said:

...snip...but he's not going to fiddle with filling cartos, tanks or mess with e-liquid. Knowing him, he'll keep the same carto on until the filler is all burned up :). ...snip...
If it's not as easy as grabbing an analog and lighting it up, he probably won't use it.
...snip...as they are both technologically challenged.

So she's probably throwing her $$ away anyway.

-or-
2) Since he's not going to use it anyway, maybe she vapes already. Or you could use the stuff when he decides that "vaping isn't for him". In which case... get the twist or some such. Then it can be passed down, won't go to waste, and it is more useful to a more experienced vaper.

If you have him pegged correctly.. and keep in mind I don't know her motivation here...or if she vapes.... it's a classic "you can lead a horse to water" issue. He's going to have to want to quit the cigs, since vaping is more of a PITA than smoking is. He has to be motivated or ...well... it's a probable loss. If you had said that "He wanted to get an e-cig" that may be different.

Maybe I have it wrong here. Maybe he really wants to quit smoking. 510's and 808's are good starter kits. If you really think it will be passed on to an experienced vaper... I'd consider the bigger battery. Particularly since he'll tire of the small battery soon anyway should he decide to keep it.

I hate to go negative here, Ctor, but it's been my experience that people who have the following issues working against them are not good candidates for vaping:

1) Not computer literate and don't have access to a computer. Since they can't browse all the options, they quickly lose interest when their first e-cig isn't absolutely perfect work for them.
2) Not particularly interested in quitting smoking. AttyPops is right...vaping is more 'work' than running into a gas station, grabbing a pack of cigarettes and lighting up. If they're not motivated to put in the extra effort, vaping will probably be a failure for them.

I would get an automatic 510 (ecigsupply.com has them in colors for $11.99) and then steer them towards Blu cartos you can pick up at Walgreen's or Sheetz. The problem with this solution is that a five-pack of Blu flavored cartos costs around 17.00 and, if they're PAD smokers, this solution will be more expensive for them than cigarettes.

Wouldn't waste a whole lot of money trying to convert them...if they don't want to quit smoking, there's not a whole lot you can do.

With all due respect, this doesn't sound like it has much a chance for a successful ending. I'm a pretty new vaper, but I'm not aware of anything vape-related that is as easy or consistent as buying a pack of smokes and lighting up. His favorite brand of smokes is available everywhere and they always light up and taste the same every time, pack after pack, carton after carton.

Vaping, in my limited experience, requires some desire to quit and a willingness to put forth at least some degree of effort to make it work.

For example, I bought a friend a Silver Bullet, a charger, two 18650 batteries and some clearos and gave him a 5-pack of cartos and some juice. He broke the SB after 3 days and ruined one of his batteries. He ruined a carto because he let it run out of juice or didn't prime it right (even though I showed him how). He says "This thing has been nothing but trouble." Sheesh. You can lead a horse to water . . . .

He's probably not ready to quit completely, but he is looking to cut back. He tried disposables, liked the experience but didn't care for the flavors.

They do have a computer and use it, but they're kinda lazy, and don't do a lot of online shopping. So a one stop shop is easiest/best.

This is for right now, to get him started. There's a possibility he might get into it more later, but for now, for him to get better used to using it around the house instead of lighting a real one, simpler is definately better, even if it costs a little more and cuts down on some of his choices. His indoor smoking is becoming a health issue with his wife (asthma), so they want it for around the house initially.

I'd suggest the Smokeless Image route then. The $44 starter kit worked for my needs. I always had a spare battery while the other was charging, and I used their prefilled for a few weeks before I got adventurous to try other juices. Once I realized how easy the condom method was... piece of cake to fill. Now I'm using their 650 mah X2 batteries with the clearomizers. That's even easier (but bigger of course). I honestly wouldn't have started if someone handed me the bigger battery though. I think for some of us, it's best to replicate smoking (yes, use the minis) to feel "normal" as possible using them.
