I have never dry burn cleaned an atty.

All I do is when it starts getting dry or burny, take (ego t and c) the atty out blow through as much juice as possible just with my mouth and then soak in boiled water and swish around.

Leave to dry for a day, prime wick with a drop of juice, pop it on to battery, screw on cone, pop in tank and start vaping and they are as good as new.

Am I the only one?

maybe it's because i do it AS soon as performance starts failing?

When I used ego-t both my ovale and my tawa lasted 8 months and still worked great just by

1. blowing out juice

2. swish around in boiling water

3. blow out water and, let dry for a day

4. prime and vape.

You get a few dead hits sometimes if you haven't left enough time to dry but then it fires up anyway after a few tries.

Swear to Bog, my ovale ego-t and the TAWA both lasted eight months just doing this (50vg/50pg) juices and might have gone longer - I sold them so have no idea.

I'm doing the same now with my ego-c attys. Only with the head too. Pick it off, blow through juice, swish in boiled water, blow out water, let dry on my desk for a day, prime and vape.

Really, that's all I do and it works every darned time.

I read about people pulling the spike plate off, torching the wick, dry burning etc and it boggles my mind.

I use an ego battery, vape about 1ml a day and 50vg/50pg. I do try to avoid dark juices but this process works even with them - I think the key is to do it AS SOON as you notice bad performance.

If you are talking about pulse burning an atty after cleaning then yes I always do. I vape a lot of dark, thick, 100% VG juices in ProTanks and EVOD's. Boiling in water or vodka baths are a hassle to me and don't always resolve the performance issue. I just rinse the dis-assembled atty/head/parts in really hot tap water and dry burn/blow ash off (if any). It's quick and simple and has the added benefit of letting me make sure visually that the atty is working correctly and heating evenly through out the coil for optimum performance. There have been times when I noticed that the coil was glowing at both ends, but not at the center and the pulse burn resolved this. Plus, I can use it right away instead of having to let it air dry for a day. Win Win in my book. I also do it 'AS soon as performance starts failing'. and still vaping on my original heads as well. I never get dry hits with this method. To each their own I guess and if it works for you, then kudos.

lol. I do the cleaning steps above, then I do a "warm burn" to dry the water a bit. Sometimes repeat the whole process.

The difference is I don't burn it dry...so it still sizzles and keeps the coil cool. Thus...no dry burn, but a drying-burn. Then I don't have to wait a day to let it dry. It still vapes crappy for the first few hits until the water is displaced, then rocks.

Your description of what I do is so close to mine, it is not worth pointing out the minor differences. I agree, dry burning does not make sense to me either. See, we do agree sometimes!

Hi Hotwire,
You know what they say, "IF it works for you". :)
You may find it better to pull the spike plate though. Good luck

I have had trouble with this lately. (I use stardusts/CEs) I clean them out, mostly as others do, but they never seem to come back. Even if they worked well befor the rinse. Some one mentioned 'primeing'. Now that seems like a good idea. Can anyone elaborate?

Priming means to add a drop of ejuice directly onto the coil head before you use it.

After washing for a minute under hot water and blowing dry. Dry burn, blow ash, so easy.

It gets the bits of gunk washing will never get off. I could never put my coil back on when I see it looking like a BBQ pit with a grill that's all black.

Hi EricHill,
Yes.
Don't know how many people actually look at their coil/wick under magnification and light. Some may have clean coil/wicks, but I never do, and I waited too long with my mini. The dry burn wasn't enough this time and I had to pick at the gunk with a awl. At work we use a 12 gauge to get the "clinkers".

Whenever possible, I pulse dry burn on a lower voltage until I see (1) individual red coil wraps with (2) no 'smoke' or (3) sizzling.

Why go through any cleaning effort if it's not totally clean before reuse?

I used to not dry burn but I found that I replaced more heads more often because the coils got gunked up long before the wicks were dead and the taste after a while was just not good - washing and vodka just can't remove the gunk. I think there are good reasons to burn and to not burn.

For me it depends on age of the atomizer, how often it was used, what e-juice was vaped in it and close inspection before I dry burn a coil. Its not a routine, like some do, because I found its not always needed.

Simply a good look at the coil under a bright light can give you the answer about a need to dry burn. IMO once the coil is gunked up the vape will taste bad and either its toss the head or extend its life with a dry burn to clean the coil. If you are planning to replace anyway the worst thing that will happen if you don't dry burn - as fas as has happened to me is you over do it and have to replace anyway. If a dry burn gives me a couple extra weeks with a head thats just a couple of weeks of more budget ;)

If the coil looks good, then its tells me that I am just fine with a wash and good dry. I don't use menthol flavors at all so I don't have a problem with that getting that flavor stuck but if I happen to forget that I used a tobacco or coffee flavor in one (I find I can use the ones that have had coffee or tobacco in interchangeably but other juices often pick up odd flavor if used in one that has had coffee/tobacco in it) I use a wash of vodka and vanilla extract (not vanilla e-juice) to remove that taste. I only add a couple of drops of vanilla extract to about 30 ml of vodka, let it soak a bit and shake it all out then air dry. The added vanilla extract (which has an alcohol base) seems to neutralize other flavors. In other words I found ways to remove odd favor without having to always dry burn.

Only time I use a dry burn when its not demanded by the coil condition is when I am in a hurry to get the atomizer back in service and can't wait for a good drying period before priming- it will wick away the water and (if used) vodka/extract. Nothing worse than taking a big vape of a favorite e-juice and getting half water :)

According to what I'm reading and understanding, we are talking about two different things.

Atomizers, blow out and rinse, let dry.

Heads that have wicks and coils, rinse, dry burn then blow off the ash.

Two different animals, in a sense.

Not in my world. I use my method for both. Even when I tried/used cotton wicks, I just removed da wick and did da dry burn. On da clearo types, I also remove any silicone/or what ever cap it has and do da burn until my three requirements are met.

Just three notes here:

- If ya can't discern each individual coil wrap as being red (or bright orange in some cases), your coil is NOT clean.
- If you see 'smoke', your coil is NOT clean and/or dry.
- If you hear a sizzle, your coil/wick is not dry.
