Do you know if a short would mess up an MVP2 or a Provari, I know those two have protection circuits in them bit kit sure if they have the protection circuits for that.

All I have is the VAMO and a backup VW ego. I am nearly certain that a short would not damage either of these. It is only with a mech mod that you would encounter problems. Protection against a short circuit would be the highest priority. The industry doesn't want horror stories roaming around the internet.

The stock wicks are silica - not cotton. In a Kanger BCC you actually remove the top wick and hold it over an open flame using metal tweezers to burn the gunk off. Silica wick cannot burn in the process.

No, a short will not mess up any of the regulated mods - regulated mods have protection built in against shorts.

It's my understanding that with both they won't fire if there's a short.

No, cotton will not last as long as silica or eko - but that's the point, because replacing a cotton wick in an RBA is so simple, you can constantly put in a new wick every 2-4 tank fills and always have a fresh wick not affecting the flavor of your vape.

With a bottom coil, I always toss the top wick, or flavor wick with a strand of silica. Just easier.

Using a mech mod requires some knowledge about coil building and which precautions to take in order to avoid shorts battery over-runs, etc.
A mech mod and an RBA is only or those people who want to invest some time into learning more about coils and battery/mod safety. If this is something that people don't have time for or any interest in, they should stick only to regulated mods and tanks with pre-built coils.
Although, a person can get into RBAs with a regulated mod as they will be protected against shorts and battery issues.

I will be honest with you, I now only use rebuildable atties like the Kayfun, Spheroid and Heron.
I've never used Kanger evods, I only used ProTank 2s which I found to be a PITA to recoil, regardless of whether I would use cotton or not.

I know that many people have had success in recoiling ProTank and Evod coils, but it was not for me.
Hopefully, others with such experience will chime in and will give you the answers you are looking for.

Depends on manual dexterity, how small your fingers are, how well you work with tweezers, and how good your eyes are.

Is it just for leakage? Or would one larger single coil work just as well as the dual?

Yeah this is definitely one of those "go to the B&M moments" I have no clue what makes one RBA better than another so have no clue what I'm looking at. I like the airflo control on what I'm using now. I get the same draw from full tank to Next and it's minimal fuss, which is great since I'm always on the go.
Funny when I started valuing a few months ago I was happy with an ego and an evod. Now I've got all kinds of crap and I'm still looking at this stuff and don't know what the hell I'm looking at... Lol
