I see there is a new e-cig petition on petitions.whitehouse.gov - They now need 100,000 signatures for response!

I just saw the notice at the top of the forum. Apparently they raised the needed signatures to 100,000 because of all the ridiculous petitions and joke petitions people were posting. Good luck getting 100,000 people to do anything...regardless of whether it directly affects them or not. I will sign anyways.

::edit:: The new ecig petition was created 1 day before they changed the rule...so still only needs 25k.

I dont think that applies to petitions put in by a certain date. I think either Elaine or Kristen mentioned it another petition thread yesterday and its my understanding that we got in before the deadline

They did it so they weren't responding to petitions like "petition the white house to build the death star" which received over 25k. It's not retroactive, so the ecig petition still only needs 25k to get a response, as it was created a day before the threshold was raised.

Getting 100,000 signatures isn't impossible, a petition in Texas got that many from just their State this year wanting the State to be allowed to secede from the Union.

Yeah the Death Star and Succession stuff didn't help matters for future petitions.
People need to get serious about what they consider to be important enough to petition the White House.
The Right to Petition is a serious one and should be treated as such.

Frankly I don't believe the president, any president, cares what people are petitioning for. If you want something done, have people contact their congress critters to propose a bill for passage. That's what we're eventually going to need to do to have nicotine in our juice.

I worry about all these petitions. I think too many signatures will make the bean counters take notice of how big a tax pool they are missing out on. I think Beretta is right, best to hound your reps.
